Pregnancy Thread 6/9 through 6/13

Hi ladies! Here's wishing all of you a happy, healthy week. No news on this front except that I am starting to show now. I am going to have to buy some bigger clothes pretty soon!

Good morning.

I was NOT well earlier this morning. I wasn't at the point where I needed a trash can by my feet, but my head and tummy were playing ping pong. My first doctor's appointment is Wednesday. I've heard great things about him so I'm pretty excited. I recently changed jobs and my old doc isn't covered on the new insurance.

Things I'm noticing/experiencing:
-I'm getting up in the middle of the night to pee. I used to have the bladder of an elephant.
-If there was a poster child for Red Bull it's me. My energy levels are insanely low.
-I've trained myself to eat every few hours while doing Body for Life, but now if I don't eat I start to get sick.
-My husband is a goofy kid himself. I'm going to have two running around!!

ciao!

I'm gonna try and jump in here again. Last time I posted I was at the very bottom and I don't think anyone saw me.

Anyway ... I'm Heidi and I'm pregnant with my second child, due in early February. I LC'd for about 5 months and lost 19 pounds but put some back on in the 6 months I was on a "cheat". The whole reason I started LC'ing was because I gained 60 pounds during my last pregnancy and thankfully my sister introduced me to this WOL about 8 months after my daughter was born (too bad I didn't try it sooner!). I fell in love with it, but I caved into temptation and started eating bad again. A LOT of my problem is that I tend to eat my daughters scraps because I don't want to waste food. That's just a sacrifice I have to make now though. I'm back on track now and want a safe pregnancy where I'll only gain the recommended amount for my size. I hope I can get some support here.

I'm about 5 weeks along right now and feeling pretty good aside from the normal fatigue and sore boobs. I had a little nasuea on Sunday too but nothing since. I have my first appointment on the 24th and I plan to tell my doctor how I'll be eating during this pregnancy. I think he'll be supportive because he REALLY got on me last time about what I ate.

I hope you don't mind me joining you all and congrats on your pregnancies!!

Hello Heidi!! We can be buddies...I'm at about 6-7 weeks.

It's funny that you're calling your little one "Belly Bug". We're calling ours "The Bean" because of it's current size. The name will probably stick throughout the whole nine months.

I was asleep by 9pm last night. Mama, I'm tired these days. Had salami and some great Irish cheddar for dinner. I just sliced it up and had finger foods for dinner.

Have a great day..

I am not feeling so hot today. I think I am going to leave work early and go home to rest.

Welcome Heidi!

Glad you could join our group!

Nothing new with me here. Just finally starting to feel my bump! Very exciting. I can't wait until I can feel the baby so I can have my daughter feel it, she doesn't believe me that there is a baby in there.

Hi everyone..
Wanted to post before anyone got too excited from NOT hearing from me and thought I had had this baby..HAH! My due date is thursday but she looks like she is going to be like the rest of her brothers and sisters and be 19 days late.
My midwife DID say that the baby feels much smaller than my others did at htis stage and that the atkins seems to be working! YAY! I am also measuring smaller...
Hello to all the newbies, welcome...the reason I am so happy that I am smaller is that my last baby was 11 lbs 2 ozs....I have never had one under 9 and a half or so and I would really like to!
Still haven't heard from Cecelia?
WHo is after me?

Hello Heidi and congratulations! I look forward to hearing how everything goes for you. Good luck and good health!

Hi Diane, your daughter is adorable!

Sjoy, I hope you're feeling better. I just noticed you're from Chicago... I LOVE your city and will really miss my annual week-long business trip there in February. My client would pay for the best hotels and the best restaurants. I love the Art Institute and the zoo, and I would also love checking out a few live blues shows while I was there! My little one will be way too little still for me to go next Feb. Oh well...

Snarla, I was the same as you describe during the first trimester, and would start feeling sick if I didn't eat (or sometimes rest). Thankfully, the nausea generally went away when I did one of the two. And your energy will soon pick up again. It's amazing how quickly time flies, I'll be at the half-way mark next week!

Marye, yay for your little one measuring smaller! That must be a relief. One of my biggest fears for delivery is that my pelvis will be too small for my baby. You're right, it sure has been a while since we've heard from Cecilia! Hopefully school's out and she's enjoying the freedom, or else she's bogged down with final exams.

All is good here. Tummy is growing in spurts, and I swear I *feel* when it does! I'm pretty sure I feel some sort of movement, but am looking forward to more definite sensations. Still no amnio results, and it will be 3 weeks this Wednesday. Just my luck, the hospital is currently backloged, but they said I should get the call by Friday. Sending up lots of prayers these days.

Take care all!

Sylv

Welcom Heidi and anyone else I have missed in the last few weeks.

Everything is going well with the baby here. The heat has gone to my feet. They are so unbelievably puffy that I have been on bedrest for the last 4 days. It is cooler today, so the puffiness has subsided a bit.

The gestational diabetes is doing its thing, I dont think i have eaten this much before finding i have it. I am on insulin now as the diet was just not working for me. Im totally cool with all of this, knowing that it is only temporary. I really really feel bad for all the people who have diabetes all the time, especially those who are insulin dependent. It is something that you always have to be thinking about, it kinda controls your life. I am just so glad that it is temporary, and this definitely is a huge motivator for me to loose the weight afterwards. All of it, the weight from before getting pregnant and the pregnancy weight.

I was reading yesterday in one of the weekly emails that i get (pregnancy related) saying that it is now not a necessity to boost your calories after baby is born to breastfeed. I was worried about that because I have so much to loose and breastfeeding will burn up to 600 calories, but if you are supposed to eat that much how will you lose weight. The article said it isnt necesary(sp?). So I will continue similar to what I am doing now and drink lots of water, and hopefully my labor and recovery will be easy so i can take baby for a walk daily soon afterwards. I also plan on doing those pilates tapes that i bought when I was first pregnant. I still havent been able to do them yet.

Marye I hope your labor is easy for you and that your daughter comes early instead of late.

>>One of my biggest fears for delivery is that my pelvis will be too small for my baby.

Sylv...When my oldest was born (all those centuries ago) my doctor (the only doc I ever had for a baby) had a theory that HE learned from his mom. He was in his 60's at the time and his mom had been a midwife in Canada around the turn of the century...He worked with her and that is how he got interested in OB/GYN...ANYWAY he asked what shoe size I wore...He said that anything under a 5 1/2 was potentially a problem but anything over that rarely was. I wore a 5 1/2 back then and I am not large framed (I wear a size 6 clothing-except on top..THAT is a bit larger). My daughter was 9 lbs 6 oz and she came just fine. I am sure you will do GREAT!

Hi and thanks for the welcome!

Snarla - My favorite BBS for the last 2+ years has been Pregnancy.org. Their site is running a bit slow right now though so another good one is BabyCenter.com. We all started there and moved to Pregnancy.org when we found out about them (they're only about 2 1/2 years old). Maybe I'll see ya there!

My daughter's sick today but other than that, I'm still feeling good.

Take care!

Marye, it's so funny you would mention that! My midwife told me the same thing about the shoe size. She's from the UK and told me that over there, they still ask you for your shoe size on their forms! Well, if there's any truth to it, maybe I don't have to worry after all since I'm a size 8.

Well, I'm still here. LOL I'm at that point in the pregnancy where I just want this over with. Just 3wks left till due date. Although I'm a bit freaked over the fact that my midwife decided to go to a siminar(sp?) for my last week. UGH!!! I don't want anyone else delivering me.
Anyway, other than that I'm doing okay. Just the usual " OMG there's just too much to do to get ready". My DH thinks I'm just too cute. Unfortunately I'm having the nesting instinct to the extreme but can't really do anything about it because the pelvic pain is to the point where I can barely walk. DH has taken over cooking dinner once again. He had to do it in the 1st trimester because I couldn't stand the smell of anything cooking. And DD is getting crabby because mommy hasn't been able to do as much run around playing. She said she's ready for mommy to get back to "normal". LOL
My most recent appointment was last Friday and they did all that fun testing for bacteria and stuff. I had lost 4lbs from the last visit 2wks before. But because I am quite large to begin with she didn't seem too concerned. I have another appointment this Friday and I'm now on the weekly check ups. UGH!!! Next week will be the final U/S to check everything. I have a feeling that this one is quite large so I'm a bit nervous about that.
Anyway, I guess that's pretty much it for now. I'll be back Friday after my appointment to catch up with everyone. DD just woke up and is "Starving". LOL Talk Later!!!
Take Care!!!

I had my 36 week appointment the other day. Everything is still looking good. I gained another pound, but I think that puts me at 11 or 12 total, so it's okay. Everything checked out okay, and I got the results of the group b strep, it was negative, so I don't have to worry about the antibiotics during labor or anything like that.
My OB checked my cervix, it wasn't painful, and felt about like a pap to me. In some ways it was better since no speculum. Anyway, the good news there was that I am at 1 cm. I know that this could mean absolutely nothing, but it was still encouraging to hear. As with the other Dawn, I am ready to be done with this. I am pretty uncomfortable, and not sleeping well at all.
I had my shower this past weekend, and got a pretty good amount of stuff. Also got a couple of generous gift cards that let me go get just about anything we needed. We are lucky in that we also have gotten a lot of hand me downs, so there were a lot of things we didn't have to worry about getting.
Congrats to all the newly pregnant ladies, I wish you a happy and healthy nine months. I hope all of those dealing with morning sickness are able to find something to help at least a little.

Hi! I'm sorta new here. Heidi and Snarla, we are due around the same time. I am due Feb. 4th, or possibly a couple days earlier. I have an early u/s scheduled for next Tuesday, so maybe we will be abl to get an exact date then. I have a ds who is 3 years old. Heidi, like you I gained a lot during my first pg (62 lbs) and I'm determined not to let that happen again.

Morning sickness has hit, and, boy, is it hard to think of anything appealing at all that is low carb. I feel sik if I don't eat, and at the same time, there is nothing that I want to eat. I had some wasa crackers and cheese, and that seemed okay. I have no idea what I am going to cook for dinner tonight, as the meal I had originally planned makes me want to puke. What LC foods could you all tolerate during m/s?

Congrats CarolinaGirl! Since you and Heidi are on my same timeline I'll consider you my daily check-in partners

I need to start journaling all of this stuff so I can look at it later..and share it with The Bean when he/she's older.

On to today's happenings...
I had my first official doc appointment today. He came recommended by a friend and I really like him. He has five of his own and delivered three of them. JJ(hubby) didn't go with me because I didn't think it was warranted, but he missed something so cool..THE ULTRASOUND!! There it was. I wanted to shout, "There's The Bean!!", but they might think I'm a freak. I did get misty though which is easy for me. If JJ would've been there I would've bawled. According to Dr. L, TB is about an inch long. He's put me at 7 weeks.

Today's weight: 136

I'm trying to be a good eater but I have this constant craving for pepperoni pizza, extra crispy(the pepperonis need to be curled up around the edges!).

That's all for today. Hang in there you 35+ week'ers!
Thanks for the site info Heidi.

Thanks Jazzy!!

Hi Ladies.
I'm buying a "real" journal tonight after work. There are so many things I want to capture on paper.
I showed JJ the u-sound pics last night and he just turned to mush. He instantly changed towards me. For the rest of the night he was doing the "can I get you anything?" and rubbed my feet(THIS IS A GOOD GIG!!). I told him this morning that I noticed an instant change when he saw the pics. He said it's because it's all real now. The Bean was just an image before and now it's real. I know how he feels

Hope everyone is doing well. I ate well yesterday. I definitely need to watch myself.

Sylv, congratulations! What great news! Why did they do an amnio? Did they suspect something from the AFP? You don't look over 35, so I'm just wondering if htere was some reason they did it.

Snarla, how exciting to see your fisrt u/s! I had a similar experiene when I saw my son (now 3 years old) at 8 weeks. I didn't bring dh to that appointment because I didn't know they were going to do the u/s. It does make it very real, doesn't it? Your post inspired me to go pull out my scrapbook to look at that 8 week u/s and show it to my son. Enjoy that wonderful worship from your husband!

I have my early u/s next Tuesday. Please say a prayer for me, as I have had one miscarriage before. Dh is coming with me, but he will have to be in the lobby with our son, since I do not want my ds to see them sticking that phallic looking footlong dildo looking thing up mommy! Yikes!

Thanks CarolinaGirl, and congrats to you too! I'll be pulling for you. Let us know how the u/s goes. I've got my 20-week one next Thursday. I can't wait - the first one I had at 16 weeks was just a wonderful experience!

I didn't take the AFP and opted to go straight to the amnio (it was all up to us whether to take any tests at all). Thanks for the compliment, but I'm actually 37! I wanted to do it for my peace of mind (seeing as there are a few cases of Down's in my family, though age-related), and am glad I did. I am soooooo happy, I can't begin to tell you.

Thanks CGirl. You are in my thoughts.

Oh ladies..I got so sick this morning. Hubby made eggs and I caught one whiff and had to run to the bathroom. There was nothing to come up..just the horrible sensation of puking. Eggs are on the banned list now. He says he'll just hard boil them from now on.

Have a great weekend!!

Hi ladies!
I can't believe I'm actually posting in this topic, but here I am! I just found out on Wednesday that I am pregnant!!! The initial shock has sort of worn off, now it's just unbelievable. I am not due until around the 19th of Feb. I have my first ob appointment on june 30, so I will find out more then I'm sure.
A little background, I have been low carbing since Dec. and have lost around 35 lbs. I feel great and wearing a size 12 for the first time in who knows how long is wonderful. I am diabetic which is why i went on Atkins in the first place.
I could really use some support in the eating category. I have gotten myself so under control that I really don't need to be on any medication, as long as my diet stays good. Any meal ideas, things you eat that are in the maintenance level would help me so much! I want to make sure I'm eating healthy enough for my baby, but I don't want to incorporate sugary foods or carb laden items that will spike my blood sugar. Any advice would be more than welcome!!!
I look forward to getting to know all of you!

Angie
