Pregnancy Thread 6/2 thru 6/8

I guess I will get things started for us today. Hope everyone is doing well for the start of this week.

I had a good weekend, got sick a few times, but mostly was just nauseous, which has been a big improvement over my all day throwing up that I have been dealing with. My eating has gotten way way out of control. I have been eating all sorts of things that are far from low carb. I get frustrated with my self because I want to be eating healthy and low carb, but for whatever reason I get sick at the thought of cooking any meat or fish, even eggs. Some veggies really get me sick too. (Broccoli, cauliflower, brussle sprouts) basically everything that I have been eating for the last 6 months since I started low carb makes me sick now that I am PG. Plus just going into my kitchen, and especially opening my frig, makes me gag...so I just seem to go out a lot lately.

So I have been eating things like, plain potatoes, rice, TONS of fruit, noodles, saltine crackers, saltine crackers, saltine crackers, did I mention saltine crackers?? haha. And now Popsicles, especially when I am feeling nauseous, those really help keep me from throwing up. Not a very healthy or low carb diet there...but it seems to be all I can tolerate these days.

My goal is that when I feel better...hopefully soon, I will be able to cook again. Then get a little better on track. However I have faced the fact that I may have a little extra weight to lose after baby and I will just have to work harder then.

Hi everyone, and to all our newly-pregnant ladies out there: where are you? We want to know how things are going for you!

Misbadu, I'm glad you're feeling a bit better and are at least are able to handle some food. I wouldn't worry too much either about how LC it is since you've been having such a hard time. Are you able to handle any kind of protein at all yet? And vitamins?

As for me, I'm now 18 weeks today and my tummy had a major growth spurt last week. I could even pinpoint the day, as I could really feel the stretching, and even my belly button hurt. I'm not an outie yet, but it's definitely not as deep as it was before. I definitely look pregnant now, which is better than just looking big. I found a Motherhood Maternity store sort of nearby. I find there is a huge lack of reasonably priced maternity clothes in these parts and I was happy to find this store. I got jeans, capris, a bathing suit, underwear and a bra. Basics to feel comfortable for now. Unfortunately, I'm not very comfortable shopping on Ebay, but I did hear of a second-hand maternity clothes store I'll check out.

We're going to our third midwife appointment this afternoon, and we're also still waiting for the results of the amnio from almost 2 weeks ago. Any day now...

Hope everyone has a great week!

Sylv

I am having the same exact problem. I just can't stomach the meat and veggies right now! I guess at this point we just have to eat whatever we can, within reason, and wait till it passes.

Sylv: Have you tried oldnavy.com? If you go to their maternity section and then hit the clearance button you will go right to their sale stuff. I have ordered quite a bit of summer stuff from them and it has all been really cute and good quality for a pretty good price. Same thing for gap.com. I haven't been to motherhood yet but I know in the States they have motherhood maternity outlet stores where they carry stuff 50-70% off...at least in my neck of the woods.

I am now 13 weeks and 1 day. I am not really showing yet but I am definitely more comfortable in elastic waistbands. All of my clothes pretty much still fit they just get really uncomfortable near the end of the day.

I have doctor appt tomorrow. Hoping my blood pressure has remained steady (or dare i hope, dropped?!) !!! I had to take a 24 hour urine sample for protein and creatinine to check kidney function because at my last blood pressure check they said I had gained 11 lbs in 4 days....which is virtually impossible considering I hadn't changed my eating habits. Anyway, I think they were worried about edema or a lack of kidney function. I feel very positive about it all though and I am feeling really good!

Sylv: have you felt your baby move yet? Do you know the sex? If yes, at how many weeks did you find out? I am dying to know! Also, is it true that in Canada you can have a whole 12 months for maternity leave?

Hello to all the pregnant ladies! I hope everyone is doing well, and that the morning sickness passes soon for those ladies still having to deal with that. Even though I am 35 weeks and getting more uncomfortable, I do not miss the first trimester at all. I was nauseaous all the time for about 7 weeks, it was no fun. I too ate whatever sounded good, or would stay down. It didn't matter to me what the nutrtional value was. One thing I did really start to like was a salad with italian dressing. I think the wourness of the vinegar helped my nausea. Now, lettuce gives me really bad heartburn and digestion issues, so no salads for me these days.

So, I am 35 weeks along, ready for baby Nathan to get here now. I actually still have my baby shower, this coming weekend, and the last minute prep stuff to do. We finished our childbirth and breastfeeding classes this weekend. We have one more class next Saturday, baby care. I'm sure we'd be fine without it, but it will give me a bit better sense of security about all this. I'm not sure if I want to look at the scale anymore. I had held my own with the weight gain up until the last couple of weeks. I think I have gained 2 pounds this week. I know a lot is fluid, but it is still kind of scary.

That's it for now. I hope everyone is doing well.

Hi Dawn, you're almost there! I think I'm already starting heartburn myself. I have a very short abdomen and torso and my fundus is already above my belly button (should only get there in another couple of weeks). I'm told I should expect such discomforts, including trouble breathing, earlier than taller ladies. Fun fun!

Sjoy, how was your appointment? I hope it was good news regarding your blood pressure. I'm not sure if what I'm feeling sometimes is the baby moving. It's so subtle, yet I suspect that's what it is. Then again, there have been so many new sensations down there since I first began growing that I really don't know what's what. Can't wait to really feel it though! We also want to find out the sex and we should know any day now when they call us with the amnio results. I've suspected it's a girl from the very start... we'll see how good my intuition is!

Thanks for the tip about Old Navy. They have stores in Ontario but not here in Quebec. Hopefully I'd be able to buy maternity clothes in Canadian dollars, otherwise it's just not worth it.

Yep, it's true that the government here will pay part of your salary for one year during your maternity leave. The trouble is, I'm self-employed and never bothered to set up payroll deductions to contribute into the plan, so I'm not covered. Doh! I'm saving up for at least a few months off, and at least once I do start working again, I'll be home with my baby. My DBF also works from home, so I'm hoping we'll be able to share the duties, and maybe get some outside help to come in a few days a week. That's the plan anyway!

Hi there everyone!
I haven't wrote in awhile, been busy!
I will be 13 weeks on Thursday, I had my month checkup yesterday and got another ultrasound because I had a teensy car accident last week and doc wanted to reassure everything was fine. It was amazing, I could see that little thing moving all over the place!
We have our daughters 4th birthday party this weekend, and we are going to break the news. How we kept it from so many people this long, I will never know!
I feel better knowing some of you eat whatever sometimes. I have no sickness what-so-ever, never have. I just can't think of certain foods. I want carby foods. The chips and salsa con queso is already calling my name!

Take care everyone!

mmmmm...Diane....Chips and salsa sounds sooo good right now and its only 9:15 am!

Thanks for asking about my appt, Sylv, and I have GOOD NEWS!!!
My Blood pressure dropped from 136/80 to 120/80!! I still have to go back in 2 weeks for another check but it is coming down. Must have been a glitch in my system or something. I have my triple-screen test in four weeks which makes me a little anxious but I know its necessary.

Take care everyone!

Good morning Ladies-
Sorry it has taken me so long to write but things have been hectic here.
Well, Here is my birth story. I
I went into labor on Wednesday night at about 5:30. I had very light contractions that were10-15 minutes apart. My Dh had me call the mid-wife around 8:30 because he was afraid that he would have to deliver the baby if we did not give her enough time to get here, the last time we had a baby at home the mid-wife had only a half hour to get to our house and set up before the baby came. Well, as they say each pregnancy and labor is different. I ended up having VERY light contractions about 10 min. apart until 2:30 Thursday morning. The contractions were so light that we thought I must not be doing a whole lot but when checked I was at 9 centimeters. The next hour was a little harder but not too bad. That took me to 10 and then they found out that I had a cervical lip . I had this with my last one too. They had to go in and hold down the lip with every contraction. That was painful.
He was finally born at 4:30. It was a long labor, but thankfully I only had about 8 hard contractions. I guess the difference was that my water did not break until he was born. Normally the Docs. break my water and that speeds things up and makes it more painful. But the mid wives did not want to do that.
The bad part came that night when the children came home and my 6 year old had the flu. And then the next day the new baby had a temp. of 99.5 so we took him to the doctor and they wanted to put him in the hospital. We decided not to do that because he was eating, pooping, peeing and sleeping just fine. His fever left on Saturday, but I came down with a fever of 104 on Sunday that lasted about three days.
I thought it was the flu but I came down with that this past Sunday so I'm not sure what it was. I have had sick children for the past two weeks,so there has not been time to get on the computer and I am not even sure this will make any sense when I am done. I'm still not feeling great and I have one child left that has not been sick yet.Needless to say this has been one of the harder times in my life and I am worn out.
I hope you akll have a blessed pregnancy and delivery. I pray all goes well for you Maryee. I guess you are next.

soory to have to leave ladies--miscarried at 10 weeks

sorry I have to leave you ladies, we miscarried at 10 weeks. I wish all of you the best, and hope that your pregnancies fare better than ours did. Hope that someday I can join you again, but at 41, that's very unlikely. Best wishes and thanks for your support. RaChel

Rachel, I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope both give yourselves time to grieve and heal. The same thing just happened to my brother and sister-in-law and we all feel a sense of loss in the family.

Jeanie, that's a great birth story. You make it sound so easy! Congratulations again. I hope you lick that bug soon.

Sjoy, woohoo! One less thing to worry about is always good.

Rachel...so sorry to hear about the loss .
To encourage you: I am 43. We lost a baby last august and then 6 weeks later found out I was pregnant with this baby (I am 39 weeks today)...Losing a baby is always hard, I have been there several times but 41 is not that old!!!
Jeannie...I have had the cervical lip with one of mine before..yuck. I know. SO glad everythign went well. Most of the time the midwives do not break your water..mine always pops as the baby is being born ...I always thought it would be cool if God would put confetti inthere instead of water...
Has anyone heard from Cecelia?
I have a week until my due date but normally go 19 days over. sigh.
HAve a wonderful day everyone!

Can I play??

Hi ladies. Can I join you?

Well...the second line in the test window turned pink That was this past weekend and I don't have an official doc appointment until next week, but we're moving full steam ahead.
According to my calculations I'm sitting at 6 weeks.

About me: I did Atkins for a while two years ago and then made the switch to Body for Life and never looked back. I was in the middle of a "challenge" and playing with my calorie/fat/carb intake, but needless to say I'm going to have to change that a bit. I also do high intensity cardio three times a week..I mean DID.

I've thought about the diet plan and think this I what I want to go with:
Chicken
Tuna(I've been craving tuna sandwiches for two weeks!)
Turkey
Lean Beef
Pork
Fresh fruits
Fresh veggies
Whole wheat bread
Yogurt
..and the occasional pizza and frozen yogurt!

This isn't a lot different from what I usually eat; I just need to eat a bit more and increase it gradually.

I got sick once this past weekend, which is was spurred the run to Walgreens. Other than that I've been fine, except for the sore boobs and feeling tired.

**Do everyone's boobs get sore?? That was the first question my mom asked me when we told her. She said that's how she knew she was pregnant with my brother.

Hi Snarla, congrats! Is this your first? Yep, my boobs hurt for the first 3 months. I don't know if it's all women who get it, but I know it's very common. Looks like you're off to a great start with nutrition and exercise. Here's to a safe and healthy pregnancy! Welcome to the gang!

Thanks Sylv. I forgot to add that part: Yes, this is my first. We were married this past November and I went off the pill in February after 10 years. We *figured* it was going to take a little longer than it did, but we were pleasantly surprised.

I know the first few months are critical so I haven't told anyone but family.

I had ANOTHER tuna sandwich for lunch today..wow.

Welcome Snarla! I had to smile when I read what you wrote above because that is exactly what happened with me. I was married last August and went off the pill mid-February after 6 years and got pregnant RIGHT AWAY! We *figured* it would take us a year, but go figure, it didn't!

Cecelia, where are you...check in please!

Sjoy and Snarla, get this: Brian & I decided we were going to start trying in February, but until then (and since I quit the pill in September) we were only using the pull-out method of contraception. We knew it wasn't fool-proof, but that was OK since we were going to start trying soon. The kicker is that we got PG *before* we actually started trying, but probably around the time we said OK, let's start! How's that for fate?

I pulled this from webmd.com. The five common signs of early pregnancy:

-A Missed Period. Missing your period is the most clear-cut sign of pregnancy. But it is not definitive, as stress or other factors may cause irregular periods.

-Frequent Trips to the Bathroom. Even before missing a period, most pregnant women report having to go to the bathroom more often. You may even have to get up during the night! This occurs after the embryo has implanted in the uterus and begins producing the pregnancy hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). This hormone triggers frequent urination.

-Fatigue. Utter exhaustion is a very early sign of pregnancy. Fatigue is a result of high levels of the hormone progesterone.

-Morning (and Noon and Night!) Sickness. Guess what? That queasy feeling isn't limited to mornings. Most pregnant women who experience morning sickness feel slightly nauseated at other times during the day as well. About half have vomiting, but very few have severe enough morning sickness to develop dehydration and malnutrition.

-Sore (and Enlarged) Breasts. If you're pregnant, your breasts will probably become increasingly tender to the touch, similar to the way they feel before your period, only more so. Once your body grows accustomed to the increase in hormones, the pain will subside.

I'm textbook!! If there was something about tuna sandwiches I would be really scared!!
