Looking at RNY Surgery.

Hi Everyone!
My name is Tammy and I have been fighting this weight loss battle for YEARS. I have finally spoke with my doctor about having weight loss surgery and if my insurance will cover it. I got the call friday stating that if the correct hoops are jumped they believe it will be covered!!! I am so dang excited. Was told to wait about 7 business days and the WLC will be contacting me. Looks like my insurance deals with the University of Washington (Go DAWGS) Bariatric Center. Not sure to much about them except it is in Seattle. Trying to gather information on them as well as what to be expecting between now and (fingers crossed) when I have surgery and then the after. I am so open to any information that you want or can share! I'm just really excited and watching lots of YouTube stuff on WLS.

Thanks everyone!

Hey 1Life - I had gastric bypass in 11/10 and I am SOOO happy I did it! It does require hard work and discipline, but WLS allowed me that 2nd chance I needed to do this! I just wish I did it ten years ago! Please come join us and welcome!

Hi. I'm another RNYer. I'm just about 3 1/2 years post. I lost about 156 and am now maintaining almost 140 of that loss. It's a struggle a little further out and I'm wrapping my head around this...

I wouldn't change a thing. I feel so much better. I'm MUCH more active and enjoy life more!!

Ask anything you like. I was 389 about a month before surgery. They suggested I try to lose some to make the surgery easier and 3 weeks before I started a full liquid diet - it was only supposed to be 2 weeks but I had an insurance issue which held me up a week... I was 374 on the morning of surgery.

Heather, I remember you from several years ago. I had a huge life change and stopped coming here for support. I am excited to see a familiar face here. I want to be a active member of my life, but seem to find myself sitting on the side lines. My weight is holding me back from everything. I hate it!!

Tamale, thank you for the share. I am not sure how long it will take for my approval, but plan on trying again to loose this weight.

I really want this to work. I know it will not always be easy, I know it will not be always fun, but I am ready. Ready to embark on this new journey. I am ready to be a member of my life!!

Welcome...I am new to this board but not LCF.

I had my RNY in March of 2004. Lost 125 lbs. It was great!

Then due to a med change weight slowly crept back and in the end I had gained back about half of what I lost.

Had a revision June 2012. Lost 45 so far ... I'm older so the weight is coming off much slower than I want but I'm grateful it's coming off.

Good luck to you and I know you'll find support here

Leslie, Thank you for the welcome. Glad to hear you are doing better.

Thank you Heather and Mary for sharing the other threads with me. I will for sure be checking them out.

I did some more research last night and learned that IF I am approved, it will take 6-12 months before surgery. Man, I was wanting this to get going by the end of the year. Oh well...Just gives me time to get all my duckies in a row.

6-12 months is a setback for sure, but it gives you time to get your head into the game. The waiting list was 7-10 YEARS here in Quebec, so I went to Mexico and did it self pay. I had the VSG surgery and I'm extremely happy with my results

I had a vsg about a year ago. I have said over and over again that I had no idea just how much the weight was slowing me down. It was like I got out of fat prison!!! I had to do 6 month supervised diet, and at first I was because I had made my decision and I wanted to get on with it, but I do think the 6 months helped me prepare for success. What WLS did for me is make what had been impossible no matter how hard I tried, suddenly doable. I still have to work and be responsible, but weight loss is achievable in a way it never was before.

I had the RNY in November 2008 and to date have lost 130 pounds. I had, at one point, dipped below 200, (lost 170 pounds) but I had the unfortunate luck to get CML (a form of leukemia) and 40 pounds, which does NOT want to come off.

I wish you the best of luck. and the support here i fantastic.

Finally spoke with UW Bariatric! I was told by my PCP to contact them they needed more info from me. After giving they very nice lady my insurance, emergency contact, and all that good stuff she informed me that someone would now be contacting me for an appointment! I can't believe it. I thought for sure it was going to come back that my insurance would say no with out even given the chance. Now for the hoop jumping to begin!
