Lapband Advice
I had LBS over a year ago and haven't lost any weight. Well I lost initally from the liquid diet, but gained it back once I could eat normally. I've had 2 fills and still no restriction. I gave up. I've recently started dieting again, but wondering if it's worth trying more fills.

I am hesitant because we are going to try for a baby soon and I would have to have it drained which means more money on top of the fill cost.

Any advice from other people who've had it?

I don't think there are very many people posting here who have a lapband, some have, but I don't see them post very often. There are some WLS sites that have whole forums dedicated to lpaband, one of those might get you more feedback. Good luck, it seems you have a lot of decisions to make :) starting a family being the biggest one. :)

I had a lapband placed in May of 2008 and like you I initially lost some weight, about 40 pounds, but I put it back on.

I never really felt restriction, even after 4 fills!

I started low carb a little over a year ago and I've lost 80 pounds. I've hit a long plateau but I've still stuck with it.

I'm looking into having the band removed. I feel like I've lost this weight without it so I don't want it in there. I'm also having some problems with things getting "stuck" that I haven't had since I first got it. I hate that feeling.

I admit the failure was my fault. Once I found out how easily ice cream and milkshakes went down there was no stopping me.

Since you've never had success with it, my advice would be to at least get an unfill and at the most, have it removed if your insurance will cover it.

Low carb works so well, I wish I had given it a try before I got the lapband.

Good luck with your decision!

I would say that if you aren't trying right away, two fills is usually NOT enough to get to the "sweet spot" where you have good restriction but not too many PB and "stuck" episodes. I don't personally have experience with lap band, but I used to spend allot of time on youtube in the WLS community.

I have a 10cc band and it took many fills to reach proper restriction. I currently have 10.5ccs in my band (yes, a band can hold more because of the tubing to the port) and have very good restriction.

I nearly gave up, as well, since I initially only lost 25 pounds. But I kept going back for fills and talking with my doctor and I finally reached proper restriction.

Hope this helps...
