What Are We Eating/Doing Today? - MARCH 2013

Just realized this thread wasn't started yet... yesterday was so bad (eating) that I am just going to forget it and move on...

So far today

coffee/soy milk concoction
salad with creamy cilantro dressing, pumpkin seeds, chopped veggies

Later I am going for a walk, then to look at an apartment

Jesse 03-02-2013 03:05 PM

B: SF Chai Latte and Pinneapple Chobani,1/4 Quaker oatmeal squares
L: not too impressive: ate a Nature Valley Protein Bar while shopping
D: not sure, both my dh and son are going out so maybe cottage cheese?
S: For sure a Premier Protein Drink or I don't think I will get to my protein goal

40 minutes on resistance machines and then shopping!

Maryposa 03-02-2013 03:42 PM

awesome jesse, you are inspiring me today

AllisonB 03-03-2013 07:32 AM

I have been hitting the Greek yogurt hard, trying to get in my protein and to maximize weight loss. I have a 6-month (will actually be 7 month) check-up with both my surgeon and PCP at the end of the month and want to show some good progress. I also expect to be taken off of Lipitor at this time - which will mean will be off ALL prescription meds since surgery (4 diabetes meds inc. insulin, Lipitor, and Diovan). That's a savings of $960/year in prescription co-pays, not to mention the years added to my life.

I also discovered Pure Protein bars, which taste pretty darn good (you won't mistake them for a Snickers, but they don't have a funky dog food taste to them, either). I got a couple boxes of the snack size - 100 calories and 10 grams of protein.

Maryposa 03-03-2013 11:30 AM

I like the peanut butter pure protein... the snack size sounds perfect, I don't think I have seen the snack size before.

As for me...

MF - Medifast
- MF "double" cappuccino shake (2 packs)
- MF cinnamon brown sugar flavor crunch cereal
- Chopped salad with chicken and sesame ginger dressing
- MF chili bites
- MF brownie

Jesse 03-03-2013 02:55 PM

Breakfast: SF Chai Latte, scrambled egg w/ cheese and bacon
snack: HM pumpkin protein muffin
lunch: small salad w/ chicken and blue cheese and vinagrette
dinner: chicken breast marinated in basil/tomato/olive oil (from butchers counter), carrots and salad (I'll probably just have room for a few carrots)
snack: whatever I need to hit protein total

activity: Sunday chores  I wish I could get everything done on Saturday, so Sunday could be more relaxing, but I just can't.

This are the ones I eat if I eat a bar. I pretty much only eat the chocolate deluxe ones. They taste the best to me. The fruit ones bloat me horribly (sugar alcohols) and the other have an aftertaste I don't like. I've never seen the snack size. The chocolate one I like is 180 calories and 20g protein.

myyellowstang 03-03-2013 06:45 PM

My food today is non-existant.

Maryposa 03-04-2013 09:41 AM

Hi all

1 - Large sugar free vanilla iced coffee (McD's)
2 - MF Cheese Pizza Bites
3 - Spaghetti squash with a turkey italian sausage and some tomato sauce
4 - MF Oatmeal

Not sure if I will eat more than that... if I do... I still have two more medifast meals on my "plan"

Nevermind... Just realized this won't be enough protein (since I replaced my breakfast coffee shake with just coffee) so I will have....

5 - Lean Body Protein Shake

How do you do all that you do with little food? I still sometimes get the shakes when I'm out shopping and I have to stop and eat a protein snack. And shopping isn't soooo strenuous. :dunno:

I still have no hunger trigger. And I rarely get hypoglycemic from lack of food, just from inappropriate food. I can eat a high carb meal and get hypo real quick, but skip eating all day and be just fine. Strange.

I had a protein drink just cuz. And some cocoa almonds.

myyellowstang 03-05-2013 08:01 AM

Today:

Weigh in for a work incentive. Their scales are ugly to me. It weighed me in at 150, when every other scale I use weighs me in around 145. 143 if nekkid. I don't wear a ton more at work than anywhere else. They must just not be calibrated right because they do move them around a lot.

Oh well, I'm within a normal BMI so I get my quarterly incentive of $75 so what do I care if their scale is 5 pounds off... unless those 5 pounds start putting me over normal BMI and then I have a whole other problem because that means I'm gaining!

Today's eats so far:

B - Fage 0%, sliced strawberries, splenda topped with cocoa dusted almonds.
L - will be canned chicken breast, cottage cheese, chickpeas, and raw spinach. NSA Strawberry applesauce if needed.
s - mint cookie protein or an apple
D - I don't know. Son has a band concert tonight so probably something easy. Most likely, for me at least, a repeat of lunch.
s - apple?

Workout - nothing planned. Maybe a run, but I need to work on the house some more. I redid the formal dining room, which was never a formal dining room before. I got a new to me table and some microsuede parson's chairs and some decorations. I plan on working on the kitchen and paring down some more dishes and cookware. I have a lot of Pyrex, but realistically I never really use more than a few pieces at a time.

Workouts are still not up to my previous level. That extreme core yoga class from saturday really tore my ribs up again. I'm wondering if I might have a little more than the (self diagnosed) bruised ribs and instead might have a micrfracture on the floating ribs or something. I couldn't bend or move much yesterday without pain.

I have a 5k in a month, need to get back to regular running.

Maryposa 03-05-2013 09:36 AM

NSA Strawberry applesauce? :yummy:
Oh man, you get a bonus if you are in the healthy weight range? That seems awefully 1950's to me... I worked for a company that gave a discount on health insurance if you were active for a certain amount of time a day (we wore accelerometers... one coworker was lazy and put it on his labrador! lol), and watched one of a set of nutritional videos once a month and answered the questions at the end. I like that plan better!

As for me, there is a pizza lunch meeting today... I hope they have salad.

1 - MF Cappuccino
2 - MF brown sugar oatmeal
3 - Salad if available
4 - MF pizza bites
5 - chicken/salad/sesame ginger dressing/ and half a bag of MF chili flavored puffs for croutons lol
6 - not sure, if anything, maybe the MF brownie I didn't end up eating yesterday

There's a little more to it than that actually. Each month there are certain other things you have to acheive as well. It's related to our health insurance, kinda. On the flip side, smokers get a surcharge per pay period. I see that happening for BMI soon too.

I would complain about that if something like that were enforced... I would request that they consider testing body fat percentage instead, using dexa scanning hehe (much more expensive for the company, but woud make more sense!) ;)

awlass 03-05-2013 02:14 PM

food for today is:
6" chicken breast subway with veggies (cut into 4!)
steak sometime tonight
too much coffee

exercise for today is:
studying urdu.. (exercising my brain counts, right? it gives me cramps) :P

Jesse 03-05-2013 04:17 PM

B: SF Chai Latte, chobani yogurt and 1/4 cup of Quaker oat squares
L: small salad made with leftover chicken breast
S:1/2 cup cottage cheese
D: meat loaf and carrots
S: whatever I need to make protein goal

activity: nothing of substance, SNOW DAY, school cancelled, haven't left the house and probably won't until tomorrow:)

Ugh! Guys! I did something really dumb. I was hungry...I bought sugar free Twizzlers. I ate, um, more than a serving... a LOT more than a serving. Now, the Malatol is KILLING ME! I knew it had it after like 5 pieces. Why I didn't stop I cannot tell you. It. Is. Awful!!!! I hate Malatol!!!

Maryposa 03-05-2013 10:58 PM

:hugs: HT... we've all been there... may we all remember what it does to us next time we are tempted!

Maryposa 03-05-2013 10:59 PM

There wasn't salad at the pizza lunch, and it was a loooong and stressful meeting... so, I ate pizza... i didn't even really want it :(

As part of my employer's wellness initiative, we have instituted a "nutrition" policy, that simply says if the company is providing a meal or snacks for a work-related event, there must be "healthy options" offered as well. Of course, there is no definition of healthy options provided, but so far there has been no kick-back. This would mean that if we were providing a pizza lunch, we would expect that salad, fruit, or other similar options were also available.

Another day, another effort to get in my protein while keeping calories low, and not eat empty calorie or high calorie foods.

1 - White Chocolate Cappuccino Shake
2 - MF Cheese Pizza Bites
3 - Chopped salad with chicken, asian dressing, and 1/2 pack MF chili puffs as croutons
4 - MF brown sugar oatmeal
Not sure for the last 1 or 2. I might have MF parmesan puffs

Right now it's strictly voluntary but I totally agree. I wear a size 2/4 and my BMI is at the TOP of normal. 23.5. Muscular bodies don't fit well into the BMI scale - I weigh a good bit more than a non-muscular person in the same size.

sf jellybeans are of the devil as well. Chew some simethicone and lay on your left side. Take a nap. Promise. Laying on the left is the post colonoscopy recovery position. :) It faciliates gas removal.

Our facility has the same initiative. If we have a hot dog and hamburger celebration they are 100% beef dogs and black bean burgers. One time (and I kid you NOT) one of the nursing floors won a pizza party. They delivered pizzas - but instead of the usual pizza toppings there were whole broccoli florets on it. Just the broccoli. Yeah that didn't go over well, can you imagine how that would taste? I took a picture but I don't think I still have it anymore.

myyellowstang 03-06-2013 11:12 AM

B - Fage 0%, frozen cherries, splenda, cocoa dusted almonds
s - more of those darn almonds
L - yeah, almonds. Canned chicken, chickpeas, cottage cheese and spinach.
s - mint cookie protein
D - no idea!

Yeah, so um the almonds have gone to the breakroom on the nursing unit to get them OUT of my house. They are so easy to eat that I eat too many over the day. Too dangerous, too hard to control eating. :(

Hot Tamale 03-06-2013 06:42 PM

Any takers for a 5-day pouch test? I know I need it! I will be doing all liquids and yogurt tomorrow. Friday I will be able to have Indian food (going out of town for a doctor appointment where they have a few good Indian places - none in my town, of course...only thing to not put me at over 400 before I had surgery!) so I will be doing all protein shakes except for that meal... Then Saturday and Sunday I will be slowly going through the gradual additions of eggs, fish, etc...

Exercise today: 32 minutes on the treadmill anywhere from 3.8 to 6.0 mph. I ended up going 2.23 miles. Progress. Now to increase frequency while lowering calories and junky eating...

I may sound initially impressive, but I am fighting all my food demons. Stress is crazy right now. I HATE IT! Barely hanging on - but the good habits are helping me at least not backslide too far...

Jesse 03-06-2013 08:35 PM

B: Nature Valley Protein Bar (had to have something easy to eat while I sat through training :)) later hm pumpkin protein muffin
L: hm broccoli cheese soup and a ham swiss cheese roll up
S: sf chai latte
D: chobani yogurt w/ 1/4 cup quaker oat squares
S: Premier Protein shake

Maryposa 03-06-2013 09:36 PM

HT... I will join you! I am in desperate need of self - correction / discipline
