I'm just going to say I have eaten too many calories today. I somehow went hog wild - not bad food, just too much of it. I'm ok now and tomorrow is another day... One day will not hurt too much - its the day after day denial I cannot ever allow to return. I cannot wait til I can exercise again - the stress I usually diffuse with exercise just bubbles over, you know? Excuses aside, I got this; I have to remember that.

1 - Chocolate/Hazelnut Coffee Shake
2 - Protein "oatmeal" (Medifast) 3 - BBQ Soy Bites (Medifast) 4 - 1 cup mixed veggies 5 - Couple ounces grilled chicken breast 6 - Chai Latte shake FYI here is the "plan" You'll start Medifast with the 5 & 1 Plan®, our weight-loss phase. You'll eat 5 Medifast Meals, one every 2-3 hours, and 1 Lean & Green™ Meal at the time that's most convenient for you. And you'll lose weight! Since I "can't" eat my veggies and meat at the same time, I actually eat them separately and skip the last medifast "meal". I add soy milk to my shakes to make up the difference.

Wow! It's so quiet in here.... OK
I am trying to keep my calories around 800... why? First, because I have been eating way too much... without exercise or even WORK to distract me (things are super slow and I am now on furlough, working 3 days a week). Secondly, because I am not able to exercise like I used to, and my surgeon recommeded after the 6 month mark to keep calrories 800-1000 without exercise and 1000-1400 with exercise, depending on intensity, and stay there for life. I am walking my dog but really I am slow and can't do much. My legs start to get sore and I swell when I do too much... and "too much" comes quickly. Mf = Medifast 1 - Mf Cappuccino shake with an added scoop of Isopure zero carb vanilla 205 calories 39 protein 2- Mf Cinnamon & Brown Sugar Cereal Crunch (dry) 100 cals 11 pro 3 - 2 oz Chicken Breast and 1 serving of mixed veggies 110 cal 13 pro 4 - Mf parmesan puffs 110 calories 11 pro 5 - Mf softbake 110 calories 11 pro 6 – Mf mac n cheese 110 cals 11 pro I also had some chicken broth (5 cals) and sf jello (5 cals) some crystal light (15 cals?), adding about 25 745 calories, 96 protein Last edited by Maryposa; 02-12-2013 at 11:58 AM.. |

Mary - Time goes by very slowly when you're healing and especially when you really want to be doing more. I know it is hard to think ahead and know a year from now you will be feeling great, but try to do that. You sound like you are so disciplined with your food! I have gained a few pounds, but I think at least some of it is water - I have had more cheese than I usually have and I am pretty sure the salt - and calories - and carbs I sometimes eat the cheese with - are all not good for me.
Here's what I had today - better than many days recently, but I still need to tweak it back: Mint cookie protein shake 1/2 a pita with maybe 3T hummus and 2oz. cheese 3 homemade meatballs with about 1/3C homemade sauce Oikos Key Lime Greek Yogurt 3 small shrimp and maybe 4oz. chicken (I picked from the family's Chinese food order) 1 bite of egg roll (Yes, I know the Chinese food is full of salt...this is a rare meal...) 1/2 - 3/4 C pineapple water, one 1/2 and 1/2 tea/lemonade, and about 1 cup of iced chai tea latte... tomorrow: more protein, fewer carbs, and more water! Also, did not work out today (but I did the three days in a row before that) but I will be walking tomorrow after work.

Here's what I don't understand and I didn't see coming three years ago... Why oh why is it now 100X harder to "say no" to sugar and carby stuff and other food that I used to eschew so easily when I was 350 pounds? When I was heavier, I used to be able to very easily think to myself that the brownie was out of the question - absolutely not - no way... now, it's like... well, I guess I could have that and then just be good tomorrow... tomorrow??? wth? I KNOW how these types of foods trigger me... I need to go back to telling myself that they are "out of the question"... otherwise I am not going to be able to keep excess weight off. About the weight thing... for me I guess it was easier to say no when I was almost 300 pounds because OMG I didn't want anyone to SEE the fat chick eating a bag of Lay's chips whereas now no-one thinks twice about the skinny chick eating it. Before it was "ugh look at her eating that, no wonder she's so fat" and now it's more "oh looks she's so cute eating those potato chips with her little self". My screwed up self image, again. Never went away.

B - Protein drink and steroid dose pack lol
L - 2 oz smoked chicken breast, 2.5 oz cottage cheese (2%), chopped pickles, 35g chickpeas and 15g raw spinach. Yummers! This is my standard meal of choice lately, mixing up the protein (chicken, turkey, deli slices) and the extras (pickles, pepperoncinis, capers - whatever souunds good) Oh, and another steroid pill s - sf butterscotch hard candy and a sf RS toffee square, but really a protein drink D - no idea yet. Perhaps more of the same thing as lunch, and a steroid pill. s2 - NSA hot chocolate and maybe a sf Peep. I cleared the shelf of them at CVS yesterday. They are tasty microwaved too, but beware. They puff up big. Workout - acro yoga |

Today's plan:
B - protein drink. I've been doing this lately because after 3 years the yogurt is starting to ick me out. Not really, but kinda. I did that with cheese sticks and cottage cheese at some point too. The thought of eating it or the texture of it in my mouth made me gag... it's a mental thing. I'm just taking a break from it for a while. L - smoked chicken breast, chickpeas, cottage cheese, chopped bread and butter pickles, and raw spinach. s - protein drink D - not sure. Probably same as lunch. s - Peep No workout. I've cut back seriously because of the elbow thing. I went last night, but modified myself and didn't do anything that put pressure on my arm or needed me to use it to twist. I've got another acro class friday night so tonight's a break night. I get fitted for a brace tomorrow. Weight is down to 142 even without the workouts and on the steroids. I was at 150 right after being sick but that's because I lived on protein drinks, pickles and potato chips. I craved salt! Now all that water gain is off and I'm actually two pounds below my "home" of 144. That's about where I live 99% of the time. |

Thanks. I was amazed yesterday that I could pick up my purse with that arm. I've been so handicapped but didn't realize how much until it started to feel better. I iced it after yoga last night and then slept with a heating pad all night too.

Then I would get in the car and eat half of them on the drive home and save one for when I got there so my family wouldn't see how many I bought. I'd need a Big Red and two candy bars on the way home from work to just keep from dragging and then a third when I was at home, but I would pretend like it was my only one. I had food shame issues. Today, if I find myself buying something I think about if I would eat it at home. Sometimes it actually crosses my mind to by it, eat some in the car and dump the rest of the bag out of the car window on the way home. About a year out I was buying the boxes of Whitman's or RS sf candies and leaving them in my car. I would go outside to throw something in the garbage and eat one or two of them. I told myself I wasn't hiding it, I was putting it out of reach so I wouldn't eat it all at once. Now I say if I'm too ashamed to eat it in front of someone, then maybe I shouldn't eat it!?! |

I did the eating in the car, food hiding, and every other odd thing you could think of regarding food. My car was piled high with fast food garbage. It got to the point that I didn't care what people thought; I bought so much crappy food at stores... I am so, so, SO glad to have a 2nd try at all this. I still have my moments, but I work pretty hard to stay where I need so stay with my eating.

We are all birds of a feather when it comes to post op life. I bet we could each share something and every one of us has done it or thought of doing it. There's a reason I was pushing 300 pounds.
Yesterday I made the family lasagna (frozen of course!), cesear salad and garlic bread. I bit this and that and never really fixed myself a meal. I did eat some sf Peeps Scale was 143 this morning and I feel a little chest congestion so I think I have some fluid from the steroids. I also didn't drink water yesterday - I craved tea all day so I'll push the water today. As far as second try - I agree. Pre-op I was one of those that said "I'll *never* gain that weight back - how could people have surgery and gain weight again!?!" Well, not exactly like that but you get it! 3 years out I can see how it can happen, but I also see how easily it is prevented IF I follow my rules and use my new healthy eating habits the way I should. Yes, I can gain weight post op - I have and it was easy to ignore those first 10-15 pounds creeping back on. Yeah, it's possible to put it ALL back on. BUT I've learned that I really have to be super lazy and not care in my eating and workouts to do so. If I see scale creep I can just tighten up for a week or so and knock it back off. 5, 10, 15 pounds regain I can see. ALL of it? I'd have to really work at that and almost make myself do that. I *love* my second chance. |

Early this week I had some constipation issues--got some tea at the health food store and that took care of it. Since then though, I have found I am able to eat less food. Is this normal? Should I be concerned?
For examp, yesterday my food included: 1 cup coffee w/sf davinci & half/half 1 Premier protein shake(30 gr pro) 1 oz of chicken breast w/1 pc american cheese 1 6 oz Chobani rasp Greek yogurt 4 large shrimp 72 oz water Last edited by chewiegand; 02-15-2013 at 07:29 AM.. |

Medifast - a low calorie diet food
Quote:
The tea - was it a laxative tea? You want to be careful with laxative use. They can cause dependency. Your body starts to rely on it and you need more, then you can't go without it. If you need something try a FIBER laxative not a stimulant laxative. Might also add a stool softener to your daily vitamins. You want something to bulk up and soften the stool making it easier to go, not something to activate your colon to squeeze it out for you. Then your colon will get lazy and stop working on it's own. ![]() Just my nursing two cents. ![]() |
