July - What Are We Eating/Exercising Today?

I thought we might start a new month today, and just keep these monthly.

This thread is for accountability with our eating and our activity. No judgement, no shame, no hiding, and no fear. Just support, encouragement, and the occasional kick in the rear if we need it!

My eats for today:

20 4 oz of water on the way to work.

B - Fage, frozen cherries, splenda
s - decaf, creamer, splenda.
L - burger patty (made with shredded zucchini, panko, seasonings), fresh tomato slices, and some laughing cow blue cheese
s - 1 1/2 scoop mint cookie protein made with water
d - no idea. I have some ground beef thawed.

Things are getting lean around the house, I need to restock the freezer. We lost a lot of good meat when the door was left open and it all defrosted a few weeks ago. I haven't had the extra cash to restock all the meat yet. So it's been a lot of ground beef lately. That's basically all that survived.

Workout - Hot power yoga tonight.

Last day of my pre-op diet...liquids, liquids and more liquids. I went to my sisters over the weekend for a party. I didn't totally fall down but I ate extra meat, some pasta salad and two mini cupcakes oh and two candies.

I have lost 14 pounds on my pre-op diet so I didn't beat myself up too badly. By this time tomorrow I will be sleeved.

I have eaten almost a half gallon of NSA ice cream in just over 30 hours. I feel absolutely nauseous right now and wish I could just throw up.

What the hell was I thinking!?!?

I've tossed it in the trash, but let's be honest. It was almost all gone anyway. I ate all the good stuff out of it as I decided to toss it.

Please. I need someone to straight up kick my butt and tell it to me straight. I'm so bloated and gassy. I've taken lactaid, gas-x and charcoal caps. No good.

Okay, the good news is it really wasn't a half gallon. It was close though, it was a 1.5 quart. The bad news, that still doesn't change the fact that I did almost polish it off. And when I say almost I mean there were only about half a dozen spoonfuls left in the bucket.

This happens to everyone eventually. I am not telling you anything new when I tell you to learn from it and move on. Beating yourself up over it really doesn't help too much. I do know from experience (I'm writing this with the last taste of a Skinny Cow cookies and cream bar on my lips...) that having too much of a good thing in my house is just asking for trouble. If you think anything might be an issue only buy one serving of it somewhere. I have had similar issues with my beloved 1/2 tea, 1/2 lemonade concentrate that I get and mix with bottles of water. I was putting wayyyy too much in. Not only was I drinking who knows how many unnecessary calories, I also think I was lovin' the caffine in those drinks because when I don't have some I seem to have one heck of a headache. Also not good. Today I mixed it the way you're supposed to (1 part concentrate to 7 parts water) and it tasted a lot less sweet and actually better. So, no more mixing it in water bottles - I know my ratio was more like 1:5 and that is not good for me.

I digress. New month, new outlook. If you can avoid bad eating, do it. If you find yourself in the middle of bad eating, stop! And, at least for me, I just have to plan to NOT take part in bad eating (as in,"I'm going to the mall, so I have to get a cinamon bun because I won't go to the mall again for a very long time..."). That kind of thinking got me to almost 400 pounds. Excuses and rationalizations. We are all vulnerable, WLS or not. I know I do not wanna go back there, and I'm sure no one else does, either! We are STRONG women! Let's DO THIS!!!!

you know just this weekend while shopping i went to the frozen goody section, I gazed longingly at the new flavors of Blue Bell & salivated while I was feeling the excitement & then all of a sudden I said yea this is going to be so good,
it will irritate my allergies, cause mucous & headache plus this will be a slider for me & I will be totally obsessed the entire time it's in the freezer I can see me now
midnight at the freezer with my spoon & brain freeze in the kitchen looking over my shoulder in fear of someone catching me with the container shoved in my face. This is not why I had surgery. So i talked myself right out of it this time, but honestly I really wanted it so I got my Chobani & said tuff to the 2 year old tantrum. I also got sf popsicles for the whole family I just can't have that stuff in the house they can eat it out somewhere.

Heather what is triggering you to go for it do you know? I agree with HT go easy on yourself & don't beat yourself up however get yourself back on track before you get any more weight back on. Maybe the book will help you. We & YOU CAN do this

I was told to bring a pie to work Friday for the "Cake Walk" OMG everything revolves around food

I'm not sure where my head is right now. I'm disgusted with myself. I think I've set myself up in a craving cycle and I just need to go cold turkey and break it. If I can get through that initial push I *know* I'll be okay.

I think that maybe I need to eat more during the day, but I'm almost afraid to. I leave work with about 600-650 calories in me by 5pm. But I'm not starving myself. I eat yogurt and fruit for breakfast, protein, fruit and veggies for lunch, and a protein drink around 4ish. I usually have an apple too on the drive home. So, I keep thinking that if I could get a majority of my calories in earlier in the day perhaps I wouldn't come home feeling like I *need* to eat things. It's not hunger, I never get hungry. It's just an drive to eat. A mindless urge to eat. But what if I eat more during the day and STILL come home and graze - I've essentially DOUBLED my calories.

Whatever it is, there's something going on. I'm going to throw myself into something else for a while. Maybe workout insanely for a while, try to create something else to do besides eat. On days I work out harder, I eat significantly less. I just might have to spend more time at the gym, log more yoga classes, finally sign up for that crossfit training.

Maybe I need to see a counselor about food addiction or something. I'm better than this and I *know* I'm stronger than this - but where is it?

How about if you changed up how you ate your calories...I was thinking what if you saved your protein drink for after you got home - maybe only did liquids in the afternoon/evening for a while? I know right now I am doing some weird things regarding food. Like one day all I seem to want is yogurt and fruit, but the next day I'm looking for protein and heaps of it. I think my body is telling me it needs a new routine...little does it know I am going to do liquids and yogurt only for about 2 days before the surgery to help clean me out for afterwards...more tomorrow - it is too late here for me right now. Here's to a much better day tomorrow!

I'm open to exploring changes, but I'm not sure I can do just liquids for a meal and be pleasant to be around... maybe worth a shot though... I do like to chew though.

20 oz of water on the way to work.

B - Fage, cherries, splenda.
s - decaf green tea, splenda
L - burger patty (lean ground beef, shredded zucchini, panko), tomato, cheese stick
s - 1 1/2 scoop mint cookie protein, apple
D - "salad" with 3" cucumber (sliced), 1/2 tomato, 2 garlic stuffed olives, hard boiled egg, 2 oz steak slices and 1 tbsp Bolthouse farms yogurt ranch (yum, no sugar, low fat, super low calorie)
s - something, but I'm not quite sure what. I'm under 1000 calories so I need to add a little something, and I'm over 100 grams protein. Maybe a nsa fudge bar or an italian ice or a few almonds and cherries.

Workout was power yoga for an hour, give or take.

Lots of liquids. They are going down well. I have walked outside twice already.

I had hubby scramble and egg and I ate half. I felt a lot better after eating that. I just made some SF jello and am drinking a premier protein shake now.

I am down 20 pounds between the preop diet and surgery. No gas pains at all I am shocked.

So happy for you, Chrissy! Walking will help with any gas you may have, too. That and drink even if you aren't especially thirsty. So many people end up dehydrated...

You ladies are all doing great with your eating! I am doing okay. I haven't done anything "bad" eating-wise...just haven't been planning like I should either. I guess part of it is I will be doing a liquid/yogurt eating plan starting tomorrow before the surgery (I don't wanna get stopped up afterwards, so I am going to give up solid foods for a few days I think...).

Today:
B/S: 1 serving cream of wheat with some rasins/trail mix & Splenda brown sugar blend and a pat of butter
L: turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, cran sauce, & gravy (small amounts of each) - yes, I made a modified T-giving dinner yesterday!
S: a peach - delicious!!!
D: more turkey dinner
S: greek yogurt

& as much water as I can stand. I am totally burnt out on it these days.

I ended up eating a protein bar for a snack last night, putting me at 1111 calories for the day. So I can safely round up to 1200 to allow for margin of error. My total recorded burn yesterday was 1905, but I took it off to shower about 8:45 or 9 and forgot to put it back on this morning. So I most likely had a 2300 calorie total burn. Why can't ALL my days be like that?

Okay today's eats:

20 oz water on the way to work.
B - Fage, frozen cherries, splenda
L - burger patty (ground beef, shredded zucchini, panko), 1/2 garden tomato, cheese stick
s - 1 1/2 scoop mint cookie protein made with water
D - not sure. I need to go grocery shopping, there are some good deals on meats this week and I need to restock.

Today's dos:
Going to Big Lots to see if they have that knock-off P90x, then to Walmart if they don't. Grocery shopping planning (while at work today - I have a super light schedule) then grocery shopping tonight or tomorrow after yoga. I think I'll hit up double yoga tomorrow morning just for the heck of it.

If I can score the P90x knockoff today I might give that a whirl tonight.

I've been doing okay on my food. I have moments of insanity, like the impulse (large) bag of buffalo wing potato chips on July 4th. I thought "oh, my kid will love these" and then I opened it in the car to taste ONE. I crammed them in my mouth for the next 10 miles, and ended up FORCING myself to toss the entire bag out of the window just to stop eating them. I just rolled the window down and poured out the bag on the ground (just the chips, not the bag!).

I've been treating protein bars like candy bars lately, and calorie wise they might as well be. From now on I will only use them when I have too few calories and need the boost. I will also try not to eat them at midnight. I need to get to sleep by 10ish, NOT 1ish. That's 3 extra hours of eating, and the book I've been reading shows a direct correlation between decreased sleep and cravings/obesity.

Water... I drink a TON of water, but lately I've been drinking decaf green tea (hot and/or cold). It's yummy, decaf (so it counts as water) and has awesome antioxidant properties (as well as metabolism benefits).

Hindsight: I am fully aware that I really bought them for myself. I wanted to taste them and I justified myself into getting them by saying they were for my son. I said I would just eat one or two and give the rest to him. 400-500 calories later... I was feeding them to the birds. It took ENORMOUS willpower to do so because I was still shoveling them in AS I rolled down the window and tipped over the bag.

I walked away from so many things at the store last night. I looked at it wistfully and just walked away. I have zero control once it's here. It's easier to leave it in the store - which I USED to do before I started to regain. That's what I'm trying to get back to.

Today I avoided buying crap at the grocery store despite my panic attack. I ran face to face into some 6+ years long old "baggage" that seriously sends me spinning every time. This is what happened a few months ago and helped send me cycling into my eating binge that ultimately ended in me gaining 20 pounds... There are times when I hate the fact that I still live and shop in this town. This morning was yet another one of them.

Anyway. Panic attack, grocery shopping. I had a list, and I managed (somehow) to get everything on that list with very few additions. No chips, although I did fight the URGE to grab a 25 cent bag of Lays to eat in the car on the way home. I am better than this and I will not let people that should have no affect on me make me feel this way.

Okay, so today's eats. There are none.

I had a protein bar before grocery shopping. That's it. It's 2pm and I need to eat something else, but it will honestly be a protein drink or another protein bar. I've had 2 diet Snapple Half 'n Halfs (lemonade/tea), but no water. Oh wait, I had a mug of decaf coffee this morning too, with creamer and splenda.

Today's dos: I *should* go run, but I need to get all this meat separated, bagged and frozen. I am doing some crockpot freezer "ccoking" I saw on Pinterest. You spend a few hours one day chopping, browning (if needed), and bagging. Then you just take out a bag, run it under the water to loosen the freezer bag (no need to thaw), pop it in the crockpot and go. You have a complete meal ready to make, you just add last minute things like rice or noodles if you eat that.

I may hit restorative yoga tonight at 545. I need some Zen and I've never tried the restorative class.

Dinner is making. It's gonna be marinated boneless pork chops (not sure I'll eat them though, pork = meh in my book) and grilled squash/peppers/onions, and grilled corn.

Confession: I'll probably eat a little squash and an ear of corn. Which means I'll have to have a protein bar or drink a little later.

I had the protein bar for breakfast, a protein drink around 4ish, the Snapple and a buncha decaf green tea. About to go make myself drink some water.

Oh, I made up 6 crockpot freezer bags. 2 with beef stew, 2 with savory chicken, and 2 with teriyaki chicken. On the last one I subbed with ponzu sauce and splenda to cut the sugar.

They are in the freezer now and we'll try one out this coming week to see how it goes. It was super easy and if it works out right I'll have made 6 meals in a little less than an hour's time.

So - now I need everyone's favorite crockpot recipes so that I can make some more!!!

Today's eats are a little different because I'm off site. I use single serve and disposable options...

30 oz of water on the drive to Dallas (half day meeting).
B - Oikos 0% Greek plain mixed with single serve half cup of NSA mixed fruit cocktail and splenda
s - green tea, splenda
Water water water
L - I will probably try to stop at Chick-Fil-A on the way home for a diet lemonade and I'll grab a 4 piece grilled nugget and a small fruit cup to go.
s - 1 1/2 scoop mint cookie protein made with water.
D - iffy

I forgot to pop something in the crockpot this morning to test my new freezer cooking. My 13 yo is home asleep and I'm going to try to get him to pop it in there as soon as he wakes up - so whichever one he picks out is what we'll have. I'm excited to try it out.

So I ended up having a noon call that needed a live meeting so I had to hang out in Dallas for another hour. Meaning lunch was a protein bar followed shortly afterwards by an apple. I never leave home without something munchie in my bag. Good thing.

My son popped the crockpot freezer meal in for me. It smells awesome. I just need to put some broccoli in it here in about an hour, and stick some rice in the steamer for the rest of the family. Smells delicious, it's making me think I'm hungry!
