I have my first appointment with a plastic surgeon tomorrow for an arm lift/upper body lift!!! I was wondering if your insurance at least paid for the medical clearance tests that are required, or did you have to pay for those out of pocket as well? BTW I may not post much but I read this thread religiously for inspiration, you guys are all amazing!

Thanks,

I have been told, the insurance does not cover upper body or arms. Some companies may have it as an acceptable diagnostic code but many don't. I was told by my doctor that breast lifts have to have a lb of tissue removed from each breast therwise it is not considered medically necessry. So while they might cover some medical visits for lab work, I did not count on them paying for the initial visit. Subsequent visits were all part of the fees for the surgery.

I think all insurances are different. Mine did not pay for a breast lift even though I had - I think btw 1 and 1.5lbs removed from each breast. My panniculectomy was covered at 75% which was great since I had a huge (17 pound) mess there! You should check with your insurance for specifics.

Yes...a bikini. Now, granted, I'm not walking around town in it, but it fits and doesn't look half bad, either. I will take pics this week.

Today my surgeon and I decided she will be "tacking up" part of my vaginal area that didn't smooth out/get reduced enough inthe thigh surgery. She's also going to fix a puffy spot above my belly button. The two items will take her about an hour at her office. She is charging me $200 to do it. I also had trouble with the area under/between my breasts healing too much - its hard with a raised, thick scar. Today at the appointment she asked if I wanted to take care of it right then and there. I went for it. She injected the area with something to numb it first (um, ouch), then injected a series of shots of something (sorry, I just don't remember the name) to soften the scar tissue. It is the same thing I recevied in my left arm in December. It wasn't very pleasant, but it was far from the worst pain I've endured. Hopefully it will help.

My insurance covered my arms. You can also get a breast lift if you have more than 1lb to remove from each breast.

How did you get them to cover the arms? What was the reason if you don't mind my asking?

Medicare won't cover arms here in Canada.

That is awesome that you got a bikini HT!! I bet you look smokin' in it!

I got a tankini with booty style bottoms. I'm still quite self conscious of my legs. She removed inner 'flap' which is all medicare paid for, but I still have lower body and back of thighs that have loose skin (and probably still a bit of fat that would need to be lipo'ed) so I will never be comfortable in a bathing suit.. but that's ok. I live somewhere with like, 2 months (3 if we're lucky) of bathing suit weather LOL

I have a golf sized (but flatter) lump of fluid in each thigh. They get uncomfortable and very tender. I am not off my feet enough and my PS said I won't heal if I don't get off my feet. I find it so hard to do!

Hot Tamale I got corticosteroid injections this spring in the vertical scar above my belly button (tummy tuck (fleur de lis cut) is five years old). It was raised and ropey. The injections were really painful, and my scar is still purplish, but when you touch it now, it feels like flat skin. Did your's turn dark from the injections.
Congrats on the bikini! I have to wear shorts with my bathing suit. The skin on my thighs above the knees is way toooo lose! I need thigh transplants! LOL. Thigh lift would not be enough to to help that area. I'm almost 56 and the skin has just given up! Hooray to the women here that lose the weight/surgery before skin elasticity is gone. Wish I had could have lost the weight decades ago...

Ugh. I started exercising Wednesday and did some lunges/squats-- BAD idea. I didn't do a lot, but I guess it was too much!

My left seroma swelled to twice.... maybe even three times its size, and got red and heated. Of course this started @ 4:30 pm, after my surgeon was gone for the day. I called our telecare #, and the nurse said I should go to the ER. I spent 7 hours waiting to see the doc for 5 minutes, and she didn't drain it just prescribed antibiotics. She told me to see my surgeon the next day.

So I call today, but forgot she's in surgery all day Thursdays. I leave all the info of what's going on with her secretary to pass on, so she calls me back an hour later saying my surgeon did want to see me, and to head back over to the ER for 3 pm (she was to be done surgery). I get there and have to wait 2 more hours (held up in surgery ugh). And let me tell you, my leg was swollen about 3 inches above my knee, under my thigh and on the inside. Sitting in a chair for that long with the pressure directly in the middle of lump was not a picnic!

Then she drains it, which was torture (she didn't freeze me. The first time it didn't hurt one bit so we thought we were good to go!) ,and told me to keep taking my antibiotics.

She said this isn't common (go figure why it's happening to me! /sarcasm) and that I'm lymph-something (something with my lymph nodes that make this more prone to happening). She also said such a huge weight loss can also raise chances of seromas. She's sending it to be tested, and also referring me to a specialist (lymph node specialist? sorry I was still in a daze from the pain from the procedure here lol) and a physical therapist (?? that I guess can show me a better way/better exercises to ease back in to it?).

She kept reassuring me not to worry, and that it wasn't going to last forever, and to keep thinking of how much I'll love the outcome.

She said "I really don't want to cut you back open... no I'm not." I hope not gads! I don't blame her... it was healing really nicely.

Seromas suck!

Heidi I had a lymphocele from my surgery I got it drained weekly for 9 months, finally he took me into the OR and numbed me didn't knock me out he removed this thing the size of a grenade and it is back I have had it over a year now, right on my hip bone! I am living with it, it is a PIA, but I am so sick of dealing with it, I think I have gotten used to it by now my tummy surgery was really hard, but the incision is healed but I still have pain daily from it and especially when I do sit ups or planks, it is one of those things I regret yet is the greatest thing so keep plugging it will get better and you will feel normal again!

Thank you MaryMary and Bejewlme!

I hope it will resolve on its own soon-ish. It is a major PIA!

So bejewlme, now that it's back again, what is he going to do? Is a lymphocele different than a seroma? It sounds like it was something hard (size of grenade??). Mine is drainable so I didn't think it was a mass? (not sure though because I didn't look! lol)

Also, some tummy swelling is kicking in now more than before. I looked 3 months pregnant last night and it was kind of uncomfy!

I DID eat too much yesterday though (kids bday party with way too many yummies) and did a bit of heavy lifting. I know the swelling is normal but jeez! Give this body a break! :P

Good news! I just recived the letter stating my appeal was approved. Initially, I was denied because they said plastic surgery wasn't covered, so I appealed and got letters from the surgeon and my shrink. So happy.

My DH now goes in for his surgery Thursday. Please keep him in your prayers.

Mary... today is your DH's surgery-- sending positive prayers your way!

Bejewlme... I bet you're sick of dealing with it! I have only been dealing with mine for an iota of time you have, but I am already so frustrated.

My antibiotics are working, but there is some pus (gross!) still in there (making a small, very hard bump). If it doesn't drain by itself by this evening, she is going to do it tomorrow.

DH came outof surgery ok. They removed part of the pancreas, a cyst and the spleen and repaired a hernia. Very happy he did those. The hernia was a big one. So far as we know now, it was benign but we will know more by Thursday or Friday. He'll be there until Thursday at least.

Tmorrow we are taking the two hour drive up to see him. It is crazy with my son, his wife and four little grandsons...the oldest is six. I am pooped out.

But ai stayed on plan. I do that before anything else.

I am glad to hear the surgery went well for your hubby Mary, and I hope he feels better already!

My infected seroma is pretty much under control now thank goodness. Both are smaller than golf balls right now, but if I do anything more than walking on my legs, they swell to golf ball size again and get tender.

I am almost 7 weeks out of surgery now. My thighs are still bumpy from swelling at incision and my stomach still swells on and off.

I agree. I had the surgery in late December and it took at least 3 months before I felt "better." I didn't even exercise at all for a month, and even then it was very "gentle" walking. It will get better!

Today was the revision to two areas of previous plastic surgeries. I now am very sore from liposuction above my belly button and also have about a 4" - 5" new incision in my upper vaginal area where she fixed some puffyness... She also gave me more shots to soften my scars from my breast lift scarring. No running for a while and no walking for at least a few days. It took about an hour in her office and cost $200.00. She removed more fat from above my bellybutton area then she thought she would have to...which is fine with me! Then, she evened out my vah-jay-jay area - one side was puffy - now it isn't from what i could tell. I actually watched her do some of the procedure - a bit unsettling to look down and watch her cutting and stitching, but I have never been very squeamish. Before all that - and the most painful part - was getting a lot of shots to numb me for everything else. She calls me her toughest patient - I guess she may be right!

Thanks ladies!

I am doing much better this past week. I have started exercising doing leg LIFTS (instead of down weight bearing squats) and upper with dumbells and already feel a huge improvement. Swelling has gone down a lot in the last couple of weeks and my seromas are a bit smaller as well!

I decided to get a new pair of jeans, cuz none I had fit anymore. I'm still so hard to fit. My thighs are still a bit swollen, but will always be 'bigger' than my tummy area (which is so much smaller now). My waist and ass are a jean size 32, but my thighs scream 33.lol So I compromised with stretchy Bluenotes jeans, size 32, :O which I like. Can't believe I went from a size 28 jeans to size 12!

I would say so!!!

I noticed my belly button is slightly off... by maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of a centimeter. Very slight though.... after pointing it out to my mom, she said she only noticed once she focused for a few minutes lol... really wasn't noticeable, but it still irks me. Nothing can be done about that now though. The new scar I imagine to fix it would be way more noticeable.

I will definitely want a little fix up on my right vaginal mound area (where it was stitched to thigh). Also a touch on my right hip... there's a slight dog ear thing.

So glad that ya'll are having these procedures covered by insurance Had . 1/2 my GB in 07 and lost half of me, 170, within 6 months. Have gained back 10 since the sudden death of our 23 year old son in January due to an asthma attack, but have stayed steady. Insurance refused to cover any type of panniculectomy or anything else regardless of amount or size. Dr. says let get infected for 6 months and they'll do it but just can't do that physically (low white blood cell counts) or morally. Wish they could be on this side and see how much that means to those of us who have accomplished so much but still have "weights" to carry around. Dr. says my excess skin etc is about 40 lbs.
