returning and learning about WLS

HI Everyone
You may not remember me, but I'm checking in after being gone for months. I haven't had the surgery yet. I was going through the insurance hoops but think it's better to wait until my Flex spending kicks in again in Jan 2010 to continue. It's very expensive. I plan on having the surgery in Late July early August of next year, after my Mom and Dad's 50th. The earliest I could reasonably have it is mid April due to the fact that -that is when the family medical leave at work returns for me, to keep my job open. A friend reminded me to come back here to give and get support, I don't have any at home right now. Meanwhile I'll be doing PP and learning all I can about life after WLS. Thanks for listening, Jean

Do your homework

Hi Mama Pooh Bear - I remember when I was more active on this board reading your posts from the century club.

Mama, I would recommend that you do some research on ObesityHelp - Gastric Bypass, LAP-BANDŽ System, DS and Other Surgical and Non-Surgical Weight Loss Options. and go into the "surgical forums". And don't just go into one forum - go into them all and research every one of them.

By far the most common surgery is either Lap Band or RNY, but there are many others (including the surgery I had/have which is Duodenal Switch). It's important you research them all as many I had not even heard of until I really started to dig around.

P.S - Depending on what your "co-pay" will be, there are also foreign surgical options for you depending on what your out of pocket expenses will be. I ended up having my surgery in Brazil, but I also considered Mexico.

Good Luck Mama, you're worth it. Feel free to ask questions if you want to - send me a PM if you want to know why I chose DS surgery over RNY.

Susan

You have options! Read the many posts and blogs of folks who have had the different surgeries. Obesity Help dot com is a great resource as well for finding people, docs, support, etc.

Reconnecting with the world, even online, is a step toward wellness!

I wish you the very best.

You DO deserve it!

Hello, Jean! Welcome back. I was here a long time ago too and just recently returned to posting. I've just gotten so engrossed in "living" that I didn't revisit... but nice to see you!
