Cream OF Wheat

I have heard that cream of wheat is good to eat when you are in the soft food stage. I have never had it so I hear it is gross, what can I put in it to make it taste better? Thanks

It is not gross, but it is kind of bland....probably has too many carbs to concern yourself with it.

You sit up nights thinking up these things ? That will be the least of your problems, they will probably give you written instructions and you will see a dietician.

Relax, take it a day at a time.

The grittiness of the Cream of Wheat made me really sick right after surgery. I also gave up grains back in May and feel SO MUCH BETTER. But...you need soft foods. How about some nice pea soup? Still carby and starchy but less so than Cream of Wheat.

Hi all

Haven't posted for awhile had my gastric bypasss on 6/17/09 doing well so far am losing slowly and have been assured it is due to age. Have lost 38 lbs so far and am happy with that. Just wanted to say that creamof wheat and grits were on my list for full liquids and I enjoyed both but they must be made on the soupy side not real thick to sit comfortably in your pouch, and only start off with .25c as these things are very filling.

Gram- saying age is misleading, I have dropped from 375 to 292 in 6 months (actually 425 on a estimate, 375 on digital scale)....and I am old...

Stick with protein....I have dropped 15 pounds since using it 2x a day last two weeks.

Patty,

Was just repeating what PA stated last visit "not to expect to lose as fast as a young person due to my being older than most who get this done". (lol)

You are doing great. I didn't have very much to lose a little over 100lbs but many medical reasons. I try to eat alot of protein mainly and drink my shakes so thats not a problem, just basically a slow metabolism even with exercise.

I would say that cream of wheat is something to stay far, far away from. Use your honeymoon period to your advantage and stay low carb with a heavy focus on protein including shakes. There isn't any nutritional value for us really in Cream of Wheat, its an easily absorbed (calorie wise) food and a slider food as well.

Really, use your first year as best as you can to get the weight off. Don't go back to carby foods, really focus on low carb. You'll thank yourself later - there are far many more folks out there that DIDN'T get to "goal" than that did!

I must agree on the carbs being too high. Right after wls, many are carb sensitive. I'm almost 3 yrs out and sometimes eating some oatmeal can cause reactive hypoglycemic episodes due to the carbs. I used to use a scoop of Protein delite Very Berry protein powder to give it some flavor and protein, which helps stabilize the blood sugar, balancing out the carbs. You might try to add some protein powder to your cream of wheat should you choose to eat it.

I agree here. Why would you eat a carby cereal with no protein value? Eat FAGE yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. I am staying away from starchy carby and sugary food and have done very well. I am down from 261 to 149.5 in 13 months. I follow my conservative WLS doctor's rules.
