July 2009 WLS Thread

Good morning all...

I am starting this months thread, need to keep myself focused and on track. I did not make my goal of 10 pounds by July 4, so time to set a new goal/goals.

#1: Drink 2L water per day, above and beyond my other beverages/day.
#2: Take my Vitamins DAILY
#3: Exercise AT LEAST 3x/wk

Once I have stuck to these goals, I will set a new weight loss goal.

Soooo...how are your Journeys going??

Any Troubles?

Share your successes!!!

Love,

August

Hey glam! I'm just happy that I'm at my old maintenance weight, and while I want to lose about 15-18 more pounds I'm feeling good. My goals for this month are to stick with my weight lifting and I'm also experimenting with JUDDD. I am amazed at how many calories I was consuming doing Atkins because of all the fat...just cooking in olive oil or adding butter etc. It was getting a little nutty. And I think that, coupled with drinking alcohol, shot my calories through the roof and that's why I wasn't losing. So we'll see what happens, JUDDD has been helping me get a handle on what is real hunger and what isn't, and also how to moderate portions, get full on less calories AND up my protein shakes!

so far so good...

August- Thanks for starting the thread......so how is married life ?

Dove- Read some of your blog....very interesting.

I do not know if any of you noticed....but I went under 300...298 sounds better only 98 to go to get out of 200's.......

My birthday was Sunday...we went to Orlando for four days, we did not budge out of the condo much, it was too hot and crowded to go in, we ate at our favorite Italian restaurant one night, saw fireworks at the Contemporary Hotel on Sunday......but I have not been well, ate about 1/4 tsp honey dijon.....had dumping episodes all night , my Blood sugar has gone wacky.....went to Doctor today, I had medicated myself correctly.....with RNY I was supposed to be off my diabetic meds.....but we will see...this moment feeling a bit better...taking it a day at a time.

Happy Fourth to all of you...we are not doing anything, try to find some fireworks down by the River.

Patty

Patty! Congrats on the 200's!!!! So sorry to hear about the dumping. The oddest things will do it. High concentrations of sugars used to do it to me BIG TIME.

Give it time as far as getting off the insulin...Your body is undergoing such a huge transformation, I am sure before you know it those meds will be a thing of the past. Won't that be nice??

Married Life is wonderful. It feels so much nicer to refer to Tim as my husband vs. "boyfriend" or the pretentious sounding "fiance".

I've not been doing well carb wise. I can feel it too. I'm not eating vast quatities of junk or anything just being too lax with myself.

I really like the way I look right now, but I'd prefer to weigh UNDER 200. Got on the Wii last night and I'm up 6 pounds. Which is weird because I feel as though I look slim. TOM is approaching...so we'll see.

I feel like a thread killer...Well, I started it and it seems to be dying...

Happy 4th of July. The sun finally shone here in Maine!! Its been the raniest june on record...Not a single day in June without precipitation. My wedding day (THANK GOD) was a BEAUTIFUL day then at about 9pm it rained down buckets!!

Here's hoping for a better July. Tim and i went to my parents camp yesterday. I ate whatever I wanted. Not great big portions or anything, 1/2 a portabello mushroom burger and 1/2 a cheddar sausage Both on rolls, like I said 1/2 of each. Then a few bites potato salad an Lemon meringue pie for dessert.

I have not been low carbing for about....4 days. I can feel it, too. I'm tired upon waking and the energy I usually have throughout the day is diminished.

Tomorrow I plan to go back to induction levels. I'd like to lose 10 pounds this summer, I'm so close to my goal and I wanna be under 200 again. So I'm off to the grocery store today. I'm gonna make develed eggs and look forward to dropping some pounds this week!! I will update my stats tomorrow as I KNOW I've gained a bit.

since I havent been on here for awhile , I decided I should do my part,,
Patty, if you change your statistics, I might have noticed your break through to under 200#,, that is fabulous,,
It is really hard changing what amount we eat, and I dont care what path we chose,, I joined ww 3 weeks ago to try and tell myself I needed control,, and to have others at the hospital help me stay focused,, I dont know if I have lost this week or not,, tomorrow is weigh in,, but I did get 10 miles walked this past week,, and it seemed more like 50,, so I keep telling myself that it isnt the pounds,, it is the way I feel,,, then I check the scale again to see if I fooled it,,, dont think I will walk today, but have lots of weeks to pull outside, so am going to use that as exercize as soon as it cools offo,, yesterday was cool and cloudy,, and it was such a nice day to be outside,,
have a good week everyone,, Bonnie

SOrry I havne't been around, puppy is really sick, we have no idea what is going on but we're worried it's some sort of bowel obstruction. The vet sort of laughed at me when I asked if anyone in Cape Verde did surgery on dogs. We just have to wait it out.

August -Feeling somewhat better....I have never been on Insulin only oral Metformin and 2.5 of Glyburide but for several months No meds....I do not know what triggered it.....but I read a article in Obesity Health that said it could take your body over a year to adjust, the surgeon's office gave me the magazine but did not emphasize it.....they send you to your family doctor, afraid of lawsuits..................

Bonnie- great on walking, I have felt so weak, I have not been even getting in the pool...will change that this week. Any support help you can get helps.
Tommie called me tonight, Marvin is in ICU, we talked a long while. Bless her heart.

Dove- hope your Doggy gets better, sick animals are hard to deal with. Prayer helps, the word says "even if a sparrow fall to the ground" God cares. We saw it happen with our family many times.

Love,

Patty Ann

Good Morning everyone!!!

We FINALLY got some sun here in Maine!! The 46th was 50% sunny and yesterday was gorgeous. Today...58 degrees Where the heck in my summer...

I am back on plan I spent yesterday preparing Grilled chicken, Steamed fresh green beans then chilled and put Italian dressing on them, Deviled eggs, Hard boiled eggs and a crustless quiche.

I do much better when I have foods ready. Otherwise I might eat some over processed things like deli meats or too much cheese.

How is everone else doing with food?

I have been doing real well this week, after losing 5# on monday, Im trying to lose 5 more by my dr's apt on the 20th,, have been walking alot more than usual,
had 1 oz of ham and 1/2 ww english muffin for bkfast,, lunch was one oz of ground ham, 2T of mashed potatoes and 1/2 cup of peas,, supper was fish and lettuce and sf pudding, tonite I had a protein shake for a snack,, also had watermelon earlier,, other than that, I havent had much,, had to make chocolate sheet cake at work, way too many drips of chocolate around, so had to put soap in the pan fast,, that is the worst thing about being a cook, always got my finger in something, and it goes right to my mouth,,, then to my hips,, Bonnie

Hi Ladies ~~~

I just got banded this past monday. So I am doing liquids only and not doing much but walking a bit. I know banding is much slower which doesn't bother me at all. If I lose 8-10 lbs a month I'll be happy.

Hi ladies, well this month is my 6th and final support group, next month the final nutrition appointment with the nutritionist b/c the very last nutritionist is with the actual surgeon. But he says he'll see me in September. I have to be 240lbs b/c i don't have any health problems other than being over 100lbs overweight. I have extremely high cholesterol, neuropathy and severe back pain, but they say that's not qualifying according to my insurance. So i'm looking at an October surgery date.

Hope things are going well for you groovy. Keep the walking up, you don't want the nasty blood clots. How long are you on the liquids?

Well, my follow-up visit is next thursday. So I would think until then at a minimum and up to 2 weeks.

Today, I got up and went to Walmart and grocery shopping (So, a ton of walking) and my daughter tagged along to fill/pull cart.

Tomorrow, I'm going back to work but I have a desk job that doesn't require any lifting.

Hey Groovy- I just got banded on the 13th as well. Our stats are pretty close. I was a bit tired the first couple of days but now I feel like my normal old self energy wise. I am on full liquids untill Tuesday (I also have my follow up that day) then I can move up to puree'd for a week, then mushy... seems like this week of liquids has gone by quickly and I've lost 3lbs.
I hope we can keep in touch and keep eachother motivated! Hope you are doing well today...

obraxton- You are coming right along, cute avitar picture, that sweet baby is getting big...wish I could hug and squeeze him, my guys are grown up, in sports...no more babies. I have a picture they had made on my wall of the four grandbabies under age 5, adorable.

Michelle- I am playing ring around the rosy, the same five pounds...need to get a boost, my pants are falling off and too baggy, going shopping in my closet, my daughter lost 70 had a ton of clothes , is a fashionista.....so I reaped the benefit........

I made the minute muffin, the first time with Flax meal, tasted like the "grass of the field"...made one today with almond flour...have not eaten it yet....my appetite has been dingy.....had "shrimp" overload.....beverages, even water taste weird......need to fight to get 100 oz in, trying to be diligent....still feel cruddy, my BG has leveled out with meds...Have Endo appointment on 28th, maybe that will help.

August- adjusting to married life?

Bonnie- Up the amount of your protein, sounds low. .
Tommi sent me a e mail, her... "Sweetie Pie" passed away, my heart just breaks for her, wish I could be there. She is precious.

Love,

Patty Ann

WOOOHOO! I have some good news to report! Today I'm back down to 162.2 lbs, my lowest since fighting regain! You can see my stats below, but as of today I've lost over 25lbs. My old maintenance weight post op was always 162 to 167, so I'm now at the low end of that. 7lbs more and I'll be at my lowest post op weight. 15 more and I'll be into VFT! (virgin fat territory).

I'm VERY excited. I have been LCing and combining JUDDD with this (ladies, it might not seem like it now, but at 5 years out I could easily consume over 2000 calories a day). It's helped me understand the difference between head hunger and real hunger and thus help me regain that feeling of tightness and fullness in my pouch.

Super happy today!

Hi all - I posted on another thread on under WLS but I'd like to join you here too - here's my story:

I had a full RNY 07/2003 started at 282 - lost to about 175 but I only saw that lowest number for a couple of days. I am currently at 221. I have gained well over 20 pounds in the last year and I know if I don't change my ways I'll be back where I started before I know it. I AM A SUGAR ADDICT. There is no in between for me - If I eat any at all I will eat obscene amounts. I eat my protein and some vegetables but have not been following the WLS rules because that WOE does allow for some carbs and I just don't seem to be able to tolerate any flour, sugar, etc... due to the cravings. So here I am on my first day of induction and I know this board is a great way to be accountable. Any and all advice is welcome.

Just some bits of advice...

1. Try the 5 Day Pouch Test. You can google it, it's free. Just make sure you do it LC
2. Stick to STRICT Induction for 2 weeks. Eat clean, no atkins bars or anything
3. Start following the pouch rules - protein first, then veggies, no drinking 30 min to an hour after eating
4. Drink protein shakes to ensure adequate intake, doctors have NO idea how much protein we actually get from food and with WLS patients we lose better when we do shakes, plus they kill cravings and help you eat less
5. Be sure you are taking adequate vitamins - whens the last time you had your labs done?
6. Get yourself scoped if you are always hungry! There could be a problem with your mechanics (ie your stoma has stretched)

We are you support system, and Lady I am so glad you are here! Dovette said a great deal and that is good stuff to follow. Getting back on track has to be one of the best motivations for those of us years post-op.
