I guess everyone tolerates things differently.

I've been wanting to eat more the past 2 days. But TOM showed up this morning so now I know why. I was getting a little concerned. LOL

My house looks like a tornado hit it, so I'll be very busy all day today.

Take care everyone!

Happy July 4th everyone. I'm feeling a little better today. Gas is letting up a little and I finally had a BM (TMI!!!). I'm still very sore at my port site. I figure this will last awhile. I am now back down to my pre-op weight. The scale read 8 lbs heavier after surgery from the fluids, gas, etc. I'm on clear liquids with my protein supplement. That's going fine. I'm really not that hungry. Hope everyone is having a nice day! Luckily there's no picnic here. It's rained all day!

Mysti- My surgery was June 30th. Thanks!

Morning everyone.

I just had a yummy breakfast. It's a layered bean dip.
1st layer - cream cheese
2nd layer - refried beans
3rd layer - salsa
4th layer - colby jack cheese
Heat in micro for 10 minutes on 50% heat or until everything is melted. OMGosh...YUM! I didn't eat it with any tortilla chips...just the dip.

My family went to a fireworks show last night. It was really fun.

Hi EVeryone.. I wrote on the june message board... whoever start the new one should post a link

I came home yesterday... on the 4th... they had to keep me another night... they had a hard time getting my oxogen up... but I worked on my breathing throughout the night and had it up by the next morning....

surgery went well... took them over 3 hours to do it... but they were able to do it laproscoply... after surgery when I was finally able to speak I asked my dh did they have to cut me open, it sure felt like it...lol.... but I have always been told the longer you are in surgery the longer the recovery time....

I truly have not been hungry.... I tried grits this morning, they didn't make my pouch feel to good... so I didn't eat anymore...

doctor said I will have to take prevacid from now on, 140.00 dollars a month this is to keep ulcer from forming around the pouch....

Kyla so glad things went well for you....

I am so tired... didn't sleep well last night, I got up at 7am... the at 10:00 I went back to bed and got back up at 12:00... put on some cloths and walk out on my pourch and sit in my swing for alittle while, then I walked alittle, very little in my front yard.... I am suppose to walk twice a day, a little each day and increase it everyday.... I am tried and ready to go back to bed again....

so I think I will go and take me a nap..again.. will check back in tomorrow

Hi Everyone,

I haven't posted in a while. I had to go out of town for a super long business trip and I won't be returning home for 3 weeks. I finished my liquids phase this past tuesday. Unfortunately, I have very little restriction. I seem to always be hungry. I can't wait until my 6th week so that I can have my fill. I have not weighed myself due to the absence of a scale. I think I am going to go out and purchase one today. I have only been eating food that has been comfortable (potatoes, soups, etc.) However, I am returning to a low carb approach this weekend. Any advice for feeling full longer or feeling/enhancing my restriction before my fill? Any advice is appreciated.

Mysti: That dip sounds wonderful!!
Gracey: I have read and heard that it is common for banders to experience hunger during the first 6 weeks b/c your band is empty. Tracy told me that the first 6 wks are for you to focus on recovery from surgery, then at 6 wks post op they will start filling your band and you will really start losing fast then. Hang in there!! You are on your way!!
Nancy: Keep us posted!
Kdlee: :Hugs: Hang in there! It gets better!!
retroworx: Doritoes? OMG... your post had me shivering... Scary what some people will try to eat!!

Well hubby and I had our first group meeting yesterday....I'm more anxious than EVER! The surgeon himself did it and I love him! He answered all my questions, explained everything. I found out that even though insurance might approve me to have the surgery tomorrow, his office requires 3 months of diet. He doesn't care if we lose weight, he's ususing it as a guage to see how committed we are to working with his office. I think I'm going to stalk him till I get this done LOL So hubby and I are going to leave it in the insurance's hands on who gets their surgery done first. My BMI is 50 but I'm healthy. His BMI is 40 but he has several co-morbidities. So we'll see. Of course we both want to go first, but we have three children who go go go and we have to be able to take care of them.

We go to our regular doc tomorrow for checkup and whatever else needs to be done.

Let our journey officially begin!

J

Hi everyone,

I'm officially down 50 pounds as of this morning. Woohoo!

Kyla and Lisa, glad you're doing okay. It will get easier!

Gracey, I know it's tough when the hunger returns before you get your first fill. You said you finished your liquid phase--does that mean you're on soft/mushy foods or on solids? Either way, try to focus on getting in as much protein as possible--it really does make a difference. When I was on soft foods, I ate lots of tuna salad (tuna, mayo, dill relish (it's minced really small), and hard-boiled egg) and soft crab cakes (recipe below-these are really tasty).

Hope you've all had a good weekend!

Mushy-Appropriate Crab Cakes

2 6-oz cans of crab meat (obviously fresh crab would work too, but this was easier for me)
1 egg lightly whisked
1.5-2 Tbsp. Mayo (I used Hellman's Light)
Fresh parsley
Splash of Worcestershire
Splash of Hot Sauce
Dash of Old Bay Seasoning or to taste
1 Tbsp. grated Parmesan
2 Tbsp. Bread crumbs (if doing LC, replace this with more parmesan)

In a medium bowl, mix all ingredients except crab. Add the crab meat and continue mixing until very well blended (use your hands or a fork). Shape into patties (I made patties about 1.5" in diameter for portions a little bigger than bite-sized; you could make them bigger with patties about the size of your palm). Spray a skillet with non-stick cooking spray or use 1 tbsp of cooking oil and cook on both sides until golden brown. This made 13 small patties or would make about 5 regular-sized ones.

For quick and easy tartar sauce, use 2 tbsp each mayo and pickle relish (I prefer dill, but to each his own) and mix with a couple of sprinkles of Old Bay.

when i was little my mom gave me crushed up pills in honey or molasses because its sticky and all the little crushed pieces stick and go down in one swallow....i dont know if you could take those in your situation but the concept might help

Jenny - Congratulations!!! 50 lbs. is a lot of weight! Think about how hard it is to lift a 50 lb. bag of dog food. LOL

Lisa - my friend was retaining water so bad that she went up 10 lbs. after surgery! I kept telling her to go to the doc and get some water pills. It came off in a couple of 5 lb. wooshes.
Three hours for your surgery? Wow...were there any problems or was your doc just being thorough? LOL I'm so sorry about your post-op pain. There's just no way to describe it unless you've experienced it. You take care of yourself. It's normal to be exhausted after walking across the room. I'm slowly starting to get some energy again. Hallelujah!

Hey everyone. Just popping in to say Hi! Things are going pretty well today. I started full liquids. Creamy soup and protein pudding has never tasted so good! =)

Jenny- 50 lbs is awesome! Congrats!

Lisa- I'm glad you made it through safely. I always give patients their crushed pills in applesauce or pudding.

Jennifer- I posted about your meeting on LBT.

I'm BACK!!!!!!!

VEGAS was a hoot, and then we took the camper and headed out for the 4th... sorry I've been MIA.....

I came back only 3 bounced pounds up... (WHOOOOHOOO) and I've been getting back on schedule all day..

Jake: from the other thread....... OK.. I really think you need to go check out several seminars to decide WHICH bariatric surgery is best for you. They ALL vary quite a bit, and on first instinct due to your esophogus issues.. I'm leaning towards a RNY for you.. BUT THIS IS BECAUSE I PB ALL THE TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me explain..... I am a volume/speed eater... and one of my struggles is to MENTALLY get over the fact of "getting my money's" worth..... I'm working on it..... but when I get to eating too fast.. especially stuff like popcorn (that goes down VERY easy) I don't realize that I'm actually shoveling it into my pie hole until its too late and I'm expelling it into the trash....... my husband has started reminding me to slloooowwww down.. because it is such an ingrained habbit...... so if you have a similar issue... and you SUCK at sticking to the rules (like I do) then I could see where a daily pb could irritate your espofogus........ imagine this...... put your hand on your throat and then walk them down about 3 fingers....... THIS IS WHERE YOU WILL GET STUCK when you PB....
TMI ALERT..........
PB is spitting back up what doesn't fit through your band..... NOT VOMIT.. as Vomit would come alll the way back up from your lower tummy....... PB.. sits there at the top until you get the overwhelming urge to spit it in the trash......... SOME PEOPLE NEVER PB... but I do it all the time........ mostly because I inhale my food instead of chew chew chew... ( I KNOW I KNOW..... but hey I'm being honest)

Hey Tracy,

Did you have fun in Vegas? Congrats on minimizing the damage!

Thanks for the kudos, guys. I just posted some progress pics on another website I frequent, so I figured I'd go ahead and share them with y'all, too. Here goes:

The one in the solid green shirt is from January 28, 2008 (259 lbs) and the ones with me and the bf is from July 3, 2008 (209 lbs).

Evening everyone..... I didn't hear from the surgeons office today. I am praying they call tomorrow . I know I've not been praying for patience, but boy am I learning!!!

Jennifer~ I think it is such a blessing to have your DH to go through this with.

Amber~ I checked out your youtube videos. LOVE THEM. I am so inspired by you and your journey. God has blessed you with a beautiful singing voice. I loved the song from your CD.

Mysti~ WTG with the 22's!! I'm in a very tight 26 and can't wait to be in a 22 again. I have a ton things I can ware to church in that size, and refuse to buy anything new..... I know everyone thinks I only own 3 outfits

Jenny~ you look so good! 50lbs is great!!!!!

Tracy~ You look great. Love your bike..... is it ok to call a Harley pretty?

Lisa~ I haven't even had surgery yet, but boy oh boy do I feel your pain with the water weight. My feet and hands are so fat! I am having trouble getting my wedding rings on and off so I'm just using a gold band I have for now.

Kyla glad to hear everything is going well for you.. I finally just cut the pill up in to about 6 little pieces and swallow it while drinking coffee

Tracy welcome back.... And WTG for only gaining 3 lbs will in vegas, you did really well

Jenny
you remind me that i need to take more pictures.... what a difference

I woke up this morning at ........at just alittle below surgery weight..... I really felt alot stronger yesterday... not back to normal yet, but just felt alittle stronger..... I Think getting out of the house help alittle.... I did lay down yesterday for about a hour...but other then that I was up all day... and the pain in my belly area was also alittle better, did not take any pain meds until I went to sleep.... I Think sleeping is the worst part of it now... my drainage area was put on the left side of my belly... I sleep on the left side... I wake up every hour having to turn on my back alittle bit from pain on my right side... I could tell dh was getting alittle upset with my restlessness lastnight.... hope this gets better soon, so I can get some good sleep

Lisa - it will get better. I think I was able to sleep on my side pain-free about a week post-op. The 1st night I slept through the night was wonderful.

Kyla - How are you doing today?

Tracy - welcome back! I'm glad things went well for you.

Nancy - I'm amazed that in only 7 weeks I've gone from a 26 to a 22. I'm starting to have more energy and feel better too. I can't wait for you to have this experience.

Jenny - You look awesome! Thanks for sharing your pix with us. I still haven't taken any pictures of myself post-op. LOL Maybe I'll get the kiddos to take one today.

I FINALLY hit 230 lbs. this morning. That means I've lost 40 now. I walked around the mall for almost 3 hours yesterday, so I got some pretty good exercise. My friend is coming over this morning to exercise with me. I have a really nice treadmill, so we'll take turns.

Have a wonderful day everyone!!!
