My Ketogenic experiment

So I have been reading up on the ketogenic diet and working my way into that space. It is pretty much a mind overhaul even if you have been doing Atkins. I will try to remove carbs as much as possible and up fats to at least 70% to start with. My worry is will I overeat to compensate this new plan. Will fats really keep me satisfied?
Will post stats in next update.

Day one.
I had to give up milk-boo hoo -that is harder than giving up bread I think. So no milk in my tea and I added a little CO to my tea. It added a bit of character to my drink.
Started day with protein shake with coffee and cream.
Then during the course of the morning I ate salami slices with cream cheese - at least 6-8 slices.
lunch was supposed to be tuna with mayo but I chose chicken wings with a head of baby gem lettuce.

Hi Carolina and Bubbles.
Thanks - It has been a long journey. I have been eating LC for a long time but it has been more of a high protein lower carb programme. I only realise this now with hindsight.
After reading online and watching lots of success stories on Y T videos I decided on considerably upping my fats through CO, avocados and butter. For snacking I found a good supply of pork crackling and nuts.
another change that I have made is going over to coffee. I am a habitual tea drinker with milk, no sugar. I cannot stand to drink my tea with cream so switched over to coffee and I feel great. I definitely drink at least a litre and half of water each day to combat the dehydrating effects of coffee.
I plan to make a batch of fat bombs that I got off one of the threads. fat is definitely keeping me more sated. I pack at least two meals for the office and I have a protein shake with cream at home for breakfast at about 7:15am. Yesterday I found that I just was not hungry for the second meal. I was happy enough with the two scrambled eggs in CO with two teaspoons of mayo and hot sauce.

With regards to energy levels. I am a pretty busy person, full time job, 7 month baby and lots of in between. My energy levels don't flag. This week has been a bit of a struggle as I am also dealing with TOM.
Hormones and energy all over the place.
What I have been doing is walking during my lunch time. I have an app on my phone that records my steps. I have set my standard as 10 000 steps per day. I get pretty close each day to my target.

Sounds like you're doing great. Please keep posting your menus. I've done low carb in the past, but never in the ketogenic style with macros 70/20/10 like I've seen suggested on the keto sites. Like you, I watched my carbs, but kept protein high. I want to experiment with this. Are you finding the losses better than with the higher protein?

Hi Carolina
The weight is definitely coming off faster now that I have upped my fats instead of protein. I do not need to eat as much as well. A cup of coffee with cream is enough to keep me going for a while.
I keep my meals simple and repetitive just to manage with my work life.
So today was a protein shake with cream and a tsp of coffee.
Snack - one laughing cow triangle.
Lunch: will have to be something from the shops as I had to take baby for vaccinations this morning before going in to the office.
supper- grilled chicken with a butter and chilli dipping sauce.
Butter and chilli dipping sauce is simply a cube of butter microwaved with one green chilli chopped into it. Dip chicken piece in butter and enjoy.
Making the conscious decision to add more butter to my food takes a bit of a mind adjustment. I found myself furtively adding butter to my plate as my hubby is on a nutritionist's eating plan (very high carb- he is having 3 cups of milk a day and just putting on weight!)
I also made the decision to cut back on veggies. Not a big decision as my food intake has reduced so no need to bulk up my plate with veggies.

Really went off track last night. Really cold, no hot water and I had a mini melt down. So ate a ham roll and chips.
Back on track this morning.

Been struggling to get onto the site.
On track today. Had some sunnyside eggs fried in butter then for lunch some leftover sirloin steak with a good piece of fat.
Need to shop for cream. Got some almond and coconut flour to make some L foods. will also make some fat bombs just to ensure I take care of meals. Family is always eating up my foods - so when I need it there is none. I find that this is when I go off plan.

Back on track

Weighed today - down to 67.2kg so weightloss has resumed after I fell off and ate a whole lot of carbs- the bad carbs like sandwiches. I bought some coconut flour and some almond flour - wow - expensive stuff!
Now I hope to make some bread substitutes and fulfil my craving for sandwiches when I have them. Just struggling to get recipes with almond and coconut flour.

Did not do my daily walk yesterday but walked again today. already did 6000 steps.
Glad I am working the plan.

Feeling great and on track. Made an OMM last night with sesame seed topping and poppy seed inside. Hope it is nice- will have it for lunch with leftover hamburger meat. No further weightloss but I think it is because I have deliberately upping my fat intake over the past two days. Just eating regular atkins 72 which may have pushed my carbs and protein up a bit.

Real food revolution

I am at a conference today with Robin Sharma speaking and was pleasantly surprised to hear Tim Noakes our very own South African low carb celebratory speak. Wow! I have been doing LC since 2008 I think and only now is this way of eating becoming popular. having a cappuchino with cream during the break.

Ate off plan yesterday as I was at a fun walk and got very hungry. Had a chicken prego roll but everything else was LC. So will see if the walk offsets the bun.
Also TOM arrived in the morning. Arg.
On a more positive note will be joining the gym today.
