Carol- I might have missed that in your posts... do you still count calories when you do combo of IF/JUDDD? I am struggling with this, as I am afraid that if I don't eat my prescribed UD calories, I might be hungry tomorrow

Sorta. I've been not counting on UDs, and just trying to trust my IE feelings. Most DDs I do count. I also try and pay attention to my signals on DDs, but let's face it, sometimes you do get hungry on DDs and just have to power through. No biggie (most of the time). I'm afraid if I count on UDs I won't be honoring the essence of IE, nor learning the lessons I need to learn.

For me, I figure my UD calories average out pretty well to what I need them to be. Some are likely less than proscribed UD calories. Some are most definitely more. Not sure how that will play out for you or anyone else. If you feel you're undereating, you probably are, and that's not good either!

UD today, and trying to eat lighter until dinner, as it will be full of yummy stuff and I want to eat what I want (w/o getting stuffed of course). I had my coffee, an apple, and cleaned out a PB jar of the last little bit in there (I love those flexible spatulas!). I was going to have some cottage cheese for lunch and was about ready to go get it, but I checked in and realized I'm not at all hungry. So I put it off. If I get hungry before dinner I'll have a little something to tide me over.

I spent the morning dealing with tech support because my computer was acting strange. They had to take over control remotely and do a bunch of stuff to get rid of adware, malware, etc. Things are humming along so much better now, but I got nothing done all morning. Grrr!

How was your DD yesterday? I think it's really neat that you decided to go for it at the last minute. I've been wondering how you did.

Most of the DD went well, and then I wound up ditching it late in the day! I was a bit irritated with myself for that. I hate wasting the effort only to throw it away. But I didn't allow myself to start Mean Girl beating myself up. Just dusted off and moved forward.

Overall, I feel I'm doing so well, but I really do need to get my sugar cravings and dessert habit back in control. There's been too much ice cream around lately, and that has to stop. Last night I had some and felt AWFUL afterwards. Enough! My body does not feel its best when I'm regularly eating sugar. I know that....known it for a long time. So, Carol, face facts and enjoy occasional treats so you can feel good!

Today is DD and I'm embracing it. I've been feeling like I want to hydrate really well with ice cold drinks. Part of that is it was like 107* here yesterday and felt YUCK! Somehow it's always tough at the beginning of "summer" when I'm adjusting to the increased temps. DDs help make me feel cooler, so I'm chasing that feeling today. Time to go refill my tumbler of iced tea. And hit the bathroom.

Even if you made it half the day, it's not wasted effort! Look at how much less you ate than if you hadn't tried it. Give yourself credit!

Carol, I hope my DDs help me feel cooler when it finally gets super hot around here. We had a long cool spring, ideal temps really. I feel really weird when IT remotes into my computer. Are they watching me post this now? Ha ha!

I'm DD-ing today, too. Funny that yesterday was an up day, but I didn't break 870 on calories. I don't know how long I can JUDDD and IE, but it's an interesting ride.

Wow! I worry that you're not getting enough at that rate. That's (870) just a high DD! How did yesterday's DD go?

Mine crashed and burned a bit. Mid-day I was so stressed out from ongoing computer/technical problems I just felt the need for some fuel. That's what I told myself anyway. And it did feel like my body was sending me a message. But I'm not sure. At any rate, I ate more than a DD, but didn't count.

This morning I had a great workout, feel good, and am not the least bit hungry yet. But I plan on some satisfying foods throughout the day, and the goal is NO SUGAR. I'll allow myself to have some good, fresh fruit later if I want a treat. I don't want to set "rules" that will cause me problems with IE (no sugar) but right now I can tell I need to get that monster back under control. Then I can allow it in moderate amounts and be fine again. The cycle continues......

Today, I'm committing to not eating in my normal, habitual eating spot (in front of the computer). I'm going to eat without any distractions save maybe some nice music. I've come to think that I really need to help myself slow down my mind and focus on my food. I may even sit quietly for a few minutes before I get my meals, just to slow down a bit.

Sounds good, Carol. I haven't been able to stop reading at lunch yet. It is really one of my pleasures, so I'm trying to just pause every page or two and evaluate my hunger. I also pay attention to the taste of every bite, though I still have not noticed it lessening when I'm approaching satisfaction.

EL, I also worry about the multiple low days. Enjoy the heck out of your lunch today!

Well, here's the thing about IE and up days--if I'm done, I'm done, right? I mean, if I am not hungry, I shouldn't eat. So, today is an up day and will likely be more in line with my JUDDD numbers than Wednesday. Yet, I already "overate" in the sense that I ate beyond satisfied. I might not be hungry for dinner at all. How are you all handling this?

I hear you about reading at lunch. It feels like a reward of some kind - the combination of eating and reading/watching TV. Maybe we will be able to add that back in or handle it more effectively once IE is more firmly ingrained in us.

Yes, it's true. You don't want to eat if you're for sure not hungry. And if we are to trust our body, it wouldn't tell us we really were not hungry for days on end. A few super low cal days and I imagine your body will tell you to eat!

Lunch update and minor (major?) breakthrough...

I had about 1/2 cup of leftover green salad from last night that I ate mid-morning. Not because I was hungry, but because I wanted to get rid of it. But.....I did really savor it and enjoy the tangy dressing flavor. I didn't get hungry all morning, so I had my Coffee/HWC about 12:30. I admit, I drank it at the computer, but I did savor the creamy, hot, sweetness.

I wasn't famished when I decided to have lunch, but I wasn't "not hungry" either, if that makes sense. I decided I should eat something, because I knew I wouldn't make it to dinner without feeling hungry, and I also wanted to get in some good protein to support my workout this morning. So I scrambled 4 egg whites and 2 eggs with some shredded cheddar and 2 slices of that melty cheese food stuff (yum). I put it on a pretty salad plate, and it looked so substantial. 462 calories (I checked just for fun). I sat down in a comfy chair and turned on some classical music and started to eat.

The cheesy flavor was so good and salty and tangy, and it was just delicious. A couple of bites in I felt it hitting my stomach, and it was kind of a weird feeling. I sometimes get that with eggs - they can be a little heavy. I kept eating slowly though, and about 2 bites from cleaning my plate................drumroll...............I could taste it was less amazing! The flavor was less sharp, a little bit dull. Is this what you guys have been talking about????? This is the first time I've experienced this! It was very subtle, but definitely perceivable.

I finished it all, and it felt perfect. So for me, the key is to sit down and really, honestly pay close attention to the entire eating experience. Duh! I realize that I have not fully committed to that up until this meal. My goal now will be to do this as much of the time as I can.

Last night I was in bed watching a little TV and I kept feeling some hunger pangs. I finally gave in and had a few slices of provolone cheese, felt better, and fell asleep easily. One of the things I have NEVER had a problem with is getting out of bed and eating. I've done it maybe 10 times in my whole life, if that. But somehow last night it just felt right.

Today is supposed to be a DD, but I have a social thing I want to do tonight with cocktails. So I've decided to focus on just HDE/IE eating through the day, trying to eat light and drink lots of liquids. It'll be good practice. And I'll allow myself to enjoy the evening with no guilt or regrets. It's a peaceful feeling to give myself permission to do this without a lot of back and forth, should I or shouldn't I feelings.

Carol - my personal philosophy is that the fun times like the social event are not to be missed because of any WOE-- because then you'd feel deprived, wouldn't be really fully LIVING, and that is going to backfire big time. I love love the sound of your plan and how relaxed you are about it.

Since I've been incorporating IE, my down days have gotten a bit larger and my last few up days quite a bit smaller. I'm wondering how to keep the JUDDD thing going....are you still going for the rotations as prescribed?
