Nose to the Grindstone - Candypickletoes' Accountability Journal

Well, I think the time has come for me to start keeping a journal regarding my battle with the bulge. I need to stop backing away from the computer when I fall off, I need to come here and write about it, show some accountability for my actions and learn from them. I've been battling this weight thing for so many years that I've mastered the art of slinking away and hiding when my weight starts ballooning. The time has come to put an end to that. So, this is it. Every cheat, intentional or not, is going to be charted here. Every misstep, every victory.

I started this WOE on April 8, 2014. Since that day I've lost 13 pounds. While that is a huge achievement there are several other achievements that are just as important! I've not cheated a single time since then which I'm actually quite proud of. I'm a recovering "I need at least one cheat day per week-a-holic" so it's a huge deal that I haven't had a cheat day. It's interesting too because with this WOE I haven't felt deprived of anything, I don't crave sweets and I'm rarely hungry. I love the energy I've gotten from this WOE, I used to suffer from the 2 p.m. sleepies but I haven't had that since I started. My clothes fit better, I'm taking 10,000+ steps per day, and I feel great. I have a looooong way to go but this is a fantastic start and a wonderful way to look back and look at my accomplishments should I hit a point where I stall in the weight loss. Of course, I hope that doesn't happen but if I'm prepared then maybe I won't get quite as frustrated about it.

So I started at 220, barely able to bend over and tie my shoes, the largest I've ever been. Change was absolutely necessary and not an option. So here I am, a first real attempt at Atkins and I'm loving it. I'm going to keep a daily log (hopefully) of my weigh-ins. So, here we go:

4/8 - 220
4/12 - 214
4/13 - 213
4/14 - 214
4/15 - 215
4/16 - 213.8
4/17 - 211.6
4/18 - 211
4/19 - 210.8
4/20 - 210
4/21 - 209.6
4/22 - 210.8
4/23 - 210.4
4/24 - 209.2
4/25 - 208.4
4/26 - 207.4
4/27 - 209
4/28 - 208
4/29 - 207.2

WOO HOOOOO!

Keepin my nose to the grindstone! Focus!

4/29 - 7:20 a.m. - Just finished 2 miles with Leslie Sansone. I typically walk at lunch time, about 3 miles, but it's raining today so I had to get some miles in before work. Will do it again with my son (if he can hang!) tonight so I hit my 10,000 step goal for the day!

Onward with my nose to the grindstone! Get 'er done!

April 30, 2014 - Yesterday was another great OP day! I made the Bacon Ranch Chicken recipe I found on here and it was a hit with everyone eating it. That's recipe number 2 (the first being the White Castle Casserole) that the boys are loving as much as I do. Too bad they still crave the starch (potato/rice/pasta) but one step at a time, I guess.

Tonight I'm trying the Inside-out Egg Roll (don't know if that's the actual name) recipe I found on here. It sounds outstanding. I'm going to make a side dish of the zucchini my boys loved (zucchini, ginger, garlic, green onion, soy - sauteed together) and I will have some left over veggies and the boys can have the leftover rice from last night. I'm looking forward to it.

I fully intend to remain fully OP until my very first planned cheat (indulgence) though it really depends on how I feel if I will even indulge when the time comes - vacation from June 10 - 15. As it stands right now I feel I already indulge, I don't miss the sweets, don't crave the bread, I don't think it will be a problem to eat OP. We'll see. I do have a 'date' with my sister next Saturday (which is her eating cheat day) and she won't tell me what she has in mind so.....I'll figure something out!

Anywhooooooo...stats:

It's May Day, mom's favorite day of the year. She would always tell stories of May Day growing up and something with flowers on porches or something like that. I miss you, mom. I hope you're enjoying May day in heaven with all the flowers your little heart desires.

Anyway, the sodium in last night's dinner was way over the top!! It's showing in the scale this morning, for sure! This morning I grabbed my lunch from the fridge, which is always left overs from the night before, promptly threw it all in the garbage and grabbed some leftover broccoli, spinach, and New York Strip to bring instead. No WAY am I having 2 high sodium days in a row.

New month, new reporting:

Man, what a day! Started off being insulted by the executives of my company in a meeting, could never figure out why the assistants weren't held in a bit of higher regard around here, now I know. From that meeting straight to another meeting to waste 30 minutes of my life that I'll never get back, into another meeting in two hours, then freedom for my walk. I just have to keep my eyes on the prize, my lunchtime 1 hour walk away from the office.

TGIF!

Thanks Sandy! You guys on the challenge thread....phew, I tell you, you are all so inspiring and supportive. I actually wasn't feeling it this morning but I jumped on that thread and my motivation came flooding back!

So, I came to say that my motivation was completely gone this morning. Immediately when I woke up I said "Ugh, I just don't know if I feel like doing this." It's the first time I've felt that way. I think I'll blame it on being Monday though, it seems I wake in the worst state of mind on Monday. It doesn't help that the puppy (Paisley) gets me up 30 minutes before my alarm when all I want to do is actually sleep until my alarm goes off. BUT, I don't want her to go potty in my room so I'll just get up. I'm thankful she wakes me.

I placed a Netrition order...spent WAY too much money but I'm hoping that's the initial pantry filler order and future orders won't be so much. I think I got something like 3 different DaVinci's syrups and lots of the baking goods that Kevinpa used in his recipes so I can make bready things.

VERY pleased with this morning's weigh-in but prepared for the upwards swing that is bound to come in the coming days.

Onward!

I should be getting my Netrition order today or tomorrow, I can't wait, I know I'm going to get home from work and want to make all kinds of recipes! LOL I have to be careful, I can't use up all this stuff too quickly, I have to make it last. I have to treat anything I make from it as a treat rather than a staple because I can't afford to maintain a pantry full of these items on a regular basis.

So, heading to Harpers Ferry on Saturday for a nice long walk and enjoying the area. Hopefully I will have some pictures to share! I'll rack up the steps, that's for sure.

I'm 1/2 way through knitting one baby blanket, I have 1 more to do before August then a wedding afghan (which is going to take forever to make) by October 10, then about 20 pairs of socks by Christmas. Hmmmm, this is actually becoming daunting. Hopefully I can get it all done. The more active I am the less time I have to knit so.....

Anyway:

Onward with my nose to the grindstone (on eating AND knitting apparently...seeing all I need to do in written form makes me realize I have GOT to get to work...knit faster! LOL).
