Mattmich's low carb journal

Hello! I have been peaking in on your journals for the past few weeks. You all inspired me to start my own. To keep me accountable and I definitely would like the support and to make some new friends

I've been on every diet possible. LA weight loss(where i lost 35 lbs) Jenny Craig 3 times and WW twice! My husband and I also did the south beach diet back in 2003 with great results. I've always been most successful cutting out the carbs.

I'll try and journal my food here. Trying to eat around 40 carbs/day. I also have a trainer at the gym. I try and meet with him 3 times a week for 30 minutes each.

This is the year of changes!!!

Melissa
My user name is a combo of my kids names. Matt(8) and Michela(5)

Welcome Melissa! We are so glad that you are here! Your avatar is so pretty and so is your daughter. She is adorable. Your menus look really good too -- I especially like Mahi Mahi -- it has such a nice flavor.

L-Chopped salad with a packet of starkist tuna and ranch

I'm trying to stay warm and dry Your menu looks good to me, although I never have eaten the greek yogurt on lc. I take one look at the packages, and see too many carbs for me. I wonder what brands everyone buys that are lc? I have yet to see lc yogurt, but would love to get it!!!!

Thanks! Im probably having too many carbs. I try for 40 but should probably lower it to help lose weight quicker. How many carbs are you ladies doing? The Dannon Light and Fit has 9 carbs. But i think there is a grocery store brand that has really low carbs. Maybe Kroger? I don't have that store by me. Only safeway and giant.

Here is VA it was all ice this morning and then its supposed to be mid 50's by the time i leave work. Crazy weather!!!!

Hi Melissa! Thanks for visiting my journal! Looks like you are doing well here! I love that you are posting your menus!

I buy Dannon Light & Fit Carb & Sugar Control yogurt. It only has 3 carbs. Flavors are vanilla and strawberry. I have bought it at Walmart and Publix. Its in a red and white package. Love it! I tried the Kroger brand lc yogurt, but I didn't think it wasn't as good. Sometimes with the vanilla yogurt I mix in a tsp of lc peanut butter or even put it in a blender with my protein shakes. Really great snack.

I used to live in Alexandria, VA when I first got married 22 yrs ago. My first son was born in Fairfax .

So glad to hear that she is feeling better and at school! I know that when my kids are at home sick it puts a lot of stress on me which can be bad for my self control. Don't beat yourself up over a little pasta. The most important thing is that you are getting back to LC and have a plan for the day! That is half of the battle. Your menu looks great today!

The best link that I have found for recipes is from one of LC Friends own members Linda Sue. Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Recipes I have made so many of her recipes and they are ALL great! I believe she has a recipe under soups for chili. One thing I love about her recipes too is that she tells you which ones are safe for induction (stars by the recipe names). Hope it helps!

Have a great weekend!!

Hi Melissa!

I will have to try that chilli out. One of my goals is to try a new low carb recipe per week so that I can retrain myself to cook low carb.

You are doing great! Happy Monday!

I love Linda Sue's recipes! I promote her sight a lot She has saved me from making higher carb dishes a lot!

Melissa, if you want an occasional treat of pasta, look into dreamfields pasta. I use it, and it has never stalled me or slowed down my progress. Sometimes I have it several times a week. It does not work for everyone, but it does for me. Give it a try

I wish I could find lc yogurt. Even at Walmart I can never find an lc yogurt. Although I am making tzatziki sauce this week w/ greek yogurt, but plain. This will be my first time having yogurt since I started.

Thanks Wish! The chili was really tasty(i like to add lots of red pepper) and the husband loved it! I too want to at least make one of her dishes a week:-)

Lori, thank you so much!!! your a godsend. We have an Italian household and crave pasta. I will def look into making that once in awhile. Wow only 5 net carbs? Do they sell that at grocery stores or healthy stores like Whole foods and Trader Joe's?

I need to look into dreamfields pasta. I eat shiritaki noodles (not the tofu ones) from time to time, they are a little weird and some people can't handle them but I am fine with them and half a package is 5.5 carbs. They are mostly fiber and go right through you and they don't have any calories (or a very tiny tiny amount). I usually use them in Asian dishes like pad Thai but today I had them pan fried with chicken pieces(from a roasted chicken I had) cooked with a bit of alfredo sauce, mushrooms and a couple tbsp. of bruschetta sauce. This sounds a little weird but it tasted just fine to me and kept me full for hours. I tend to experiment and throw weird things together! :-)

Melissa, you are doing great! Your eating is perfect! If you want low carb pasta, the Netrition site right here has a couple of different kinds including Dreamfields. Tony always wants pasta so I bought one of the low carb kinds from Netrition -- only about 8 carbs in a small serving.

Hope you have a great day today!

yes, 5 carbs per serving. There is something called protective carbs. A way that they process it that doesn't break it down all the way, and therefore our body doesn't absorb them the same. Some people say it doesn't work for them, but it does for me! And, I agree, I love pasta. I need a little something every now and then. I have seen it at every single grocery store I go into. It's always a little closer to the organic pastas. Some stores have only 2 or 3 different shapes, but I have seen up to 12 different shapes available. Even lasagne. I even found it at walmart.

Thanks Amy!

Lisa thank you for explaining about the protective carbs. I definitely have to try it. I looked at my local Giant but didn't think to look by the organic pastas. I will look next shopping trip:-)

I am so pissed I forgot all my food for work this morning. I was so busy getting the kids out of the house and getting their lunch together.

So this is my menu for today I'll have to buy salad and snacks for a million dollars at work:-(

B-eggs and turkey bacon
L-roast beef on salad with feta and vinegarette
D-Salmon with stir fry veggies
S-cheese, pepperoni
