Smalls - I was fully retired at age 48! 30 years of service with the public school system with full benefits! I started when I was 18 as an elementary school secretary and never left. College was not an option for me. I'm one of 10 kids. Had to go to work. I only needed 30 years with no age criteria for full retirement. And baby, I was done, done, done! I'll be 57 this July. No regrets what so ever. DH put in 35 years with government, just retired in January - he is 60.

BTW - no weight loss today...I'm going to eat a cookie... to console myself...

Susan, I couldn't go to college either, had to go straight out to work, wow you did retire nice and early didn't you, that was really cool, I didn't know your hubby had retired as well, same age as my hubby lol.
I had my real estate license in Canada so if I got really bored I could always get a job in one of the local offices around here....but I did find it to be quite a stressful job so not sure I would want to go back, anyway after having the night to think about it as I really didn't sleep well, I have been thinking of all the things I could do, like yoga, a part time course in something like essential oils, or get into herbalism which fascinates me, I love tole painting and haven't picked my brushes up in years, there are literally tons of things I could do....so I will start investigating them when I get really bored....I also really love making slideshows and had a website which I gave up last year when dh retired, so I might do another one again.....if anyone ever gets bored I have some on you tube that used to link to my site lol.....ok enough rambling on...hangover has now passed, no more drinking for me...its not possible to drink on low carb as it goes to your head to quick and feels horrible....

right back to you Sandy

Yes I spread the wealth on a few threads here.... I like watching people lose and their inspirations/tidbits on the way....

Last time I lost 17 pounds then went into a stall. We'll see
Staying right where I am at....

I was reading somewhere that you have to reset your body every once in awhile and have a cheat day ... to get out of plateau... ?? I'm not sure if I subscribe to this or not...

The reset thing kind of makes sense to me....although I kind of did it once when Susan was stalling, so I fiddled with what I was eating and added some carbs for a day, nothing major, I think it was some crispbreads, and it stalled me out for about four days, so for me I would be to scared to do it again....its funny also that someone was talking about that yesterday, they said that if you cheated for one day it takes nearly a week to get back to where you were....I honestly wouldn't have agreed with that until it happened to me, but then again we are all different so it could work for some people couldn't it.....I quite enjoyed my cheat day though and I think it did me good emotionally to have a break just for the day.

I did a cheat meal last 4/1 - and got right back on plan, then Saturday got rid of my creamer and SF Russell Stover candies(yes I was bad having them)

I totally agree with you have to find your own path here...
It took me a few days to get back to ketosis...
I myself wouldn't do it on a regular basis, some sites say once a week
but the carb flu is a reason why I wouldn't do it...

I might try one cheat meal, but only if I've stalled for 3-4 days...
fingers&toes....

I really wish my little reset had worked for me, although I would be constantly wanting reset days lol....I won't even tell you what I am craving today ...
Did you really have Rusell Stovers candies and you didn't share lol, what I would give for one of those now......now that is odd as I was thinking about getting some sugar free candies from the drug store, you know the diabetic one's....I talked myself out of it in the end.....do you think they would cause a stall, I don't want to stall out just yet...or do you think its just different for everyone.

Well they were sugar free, mostly sugar alcohols...
I was ashamed....
I lost 17 pounds eating 2 of these every other day before...go figure
on the 17 pounds I was fasting every other day (400 cals or less)

These things were addictive to me though so it shows you they weren't
good, they affected to eat more...also I hate being hungry on the fast
days...

so fingers/toes.....

Julie when you lost the 17 pounds and you stalled did you stop eating low carb, I am sure you have told me before but I can't remember....I know when you stall out for to long its really unmotivating....
I sometimes think our bodies like that up day down day kind of thing, I was losing on judd but I couldn't bear the scales going up after the up day, but I could see it would work as your body gets muddled....I am glad I did it though as it made me see that on the up days when I would eat carbs I couldn't believe I was starving an hour later, it made me realize about the glucose up and down thing.
I think I will stay away from the candies for now then, although I like the fact that I have read it can have an effect on you that makes you run to the bathroom, that could be a good thing for weight loss lol.

Oops dinner is burning talk to you later...

Hi Sandy! Wow your progress is amazing! I had an adventure with low carb chocolate about a month ago. I was craving chocolate so I decided to try some and bought a bag of the Hershey's special dark. Problem? When I start eating chocolate I will definitely eat it ALL until it's gone, and that's exactly what I did. It didn't stall me but it did cause me to have....well let's just say the stories are true. It was pretty awful. No more candy for me! I went back to the coconut oil/cocoa combination on Monday and am only making two at a time. No nasty side effects and I can still have my chocolate!

Sandy - I was averaging 11 carbs on DD and 16 carbs on UD.
Then I stalled... then
I took like a weekend off then started again Monday type thing.
Sorta struggled with DD again, then the next week just did the Atkins72
to get back to ketosis....since I was losing never went back to DD ...

I had success with the UD/DD thing a year ago and I lost 20lbs,
then gained it back...I did lose when I started again in Feb 3
but not .4 every other day or .8 like I am doing now....
So if its fixed, don't break it....

Mary.... that was funny, yes I would have to eat the whole bar as well, I hate having that other thing going on though lol.....it wouldn't be so bad if we could just eat a bit but I have to finish everything off if it contains chocolate...
So are you finding the chocolate made with with coconut oil is stalling you in any way, i tried it a while ago and loved it but I was stalling at the time so don't know if it made things worse or not, it would be interesting to know.

Julie..that was interesting to read how you counted carbs on your up and down days, I never thought of doing that....I love reading everyone else's story so thanks for sharing....what you are doing now really seems to suit your body as its amazing how you are losing everyday, I definitely agree if its not broken don't fix it.....I doubt if i will have a loss again tomorrow but it will be interesting to see if you do...fingers are crossed for you....

Wishing the best loss for you also Sandy!!

I really think the UD/DD pushed me to eat more than I should on the UD...
It made me more of a binge eater... Just my perspective...
