thanks everyone! welcome to my journal Spikersmom. The cake really did taste better the second day!

Day 60! 187.2lbs (getting sick of getting back here)

So today I decided to challenge myself a little more and have a low calorie day. I am tired of bouncing between 185 and 187, call me impatient. My goal for today is around 1000 calories, I am doing well so far but we will see how I do come dinner time. Tomorrow I am back to a normal-high calorie level, I plan on going to strollersize and need my calories. If this goes well today, I may do another low calorie day on Thursday. I am still counting my macro's today and my carbs will continue to be low, around 20 grams.

I took the kids for fast food today and even though I was quite hungry I didn't even have a bite of thier food! seriously amazed at my self control and restraint!

And almost forgot to mention that I started having my lunch at 1:30pm and not much for breakfast and I am feeling fine, hungry but not light headed or irritable or hypoglycemic. I hope the rest of the day goes well, this is my first experiment going this low in calories since I started this diet.

Day 61! 185.2lbs

Just came back from strollersize, I felt pretty good today! I have been trying to drink a cup of bouillon 30 minutes before my workout starts and I think it helps. I got the book "the art and science to low caroboydrate living" on Monday and early on in the book it says to drink bouillon up to 1 hour before a workout. The book looks great, I am looking forward to reading it all.

So yesterday was my low calorie day, I managed 1190 calories, 68.3g fat, 91g protein, 36.4g carbs. I didn't do too badly, I didn't have any low blood sugar symptoms, just a little hungry. I was amazed that I didn't have low blood sugar, in the past I would have yelled at anyone around me and searched for carb loaded food like a junkie. I don't know if I am "keto-adapted" yet but there are definatly great changes going on, I was able to make it through my low calorie day without feeling like I was going to die, I didn't enjoy it but I didn't hate every second of it either. Today I can have my cake and I am SO excited!

My husband made me have a beer with him (yes I blame it entirely on him, wink), it was only 67 calories and 2 g carbs and it did help me get through the evening. I didn't know limes had so many carbs, I had a couple of limeades and the carb count was 7.1! oh well it was a good day and I want to try it out again on Thursday. I think I will try and eat less protein next time and more fat and see how I do. Here is what I ate yesterday~

breakfast~
1 cup veg bouillon
2 tbsp HWC in decalf

lunch~
2 handfuls mixed greens
2 tbsp balsamic dressing
10 scallops
10 shrimps
1 tsp butter
garlic and seasonings

snack~
1 cheesestring
high fiber protein powder in water

dinner~
zucchini fritters made with:
1 slice swiss cheese
100g zucchini
14g sundried tomato
1 strip bacon
2 eggs
2 mushrooms
1 tbsp red onion
salt and seasonings
juice of 1 lime and stevia for 2 glasses of limeade

late night treat~
low cal/low carb beer

Day 62! 187.2 lb

We are having a bit of a snow storm today after what was the springiest day yesterday, kids splashing in the puddles, screen door open, cats first day (of the year) outside and planting seeds. Today we aren't going anywhere, I have heard the roads are bad so I am not even going to attempt it, even though I have some shopping I need to do.

I was going to have a low calorie day today but I just don't know if I can make it, being stuck indoors like this and seeing the snow fall has got me in a different frame of mind, the kind that needs comfort food. It isn't even close to lunch and I am super hungry, I have already eaten 410 calories! So needless to say, I am going to have to try low calorie day on a different day. I might take a walk on the treadmill today.

How do people make it on 500 calories a day? 1200 calories is already a big enough challenge!

update: I just said screw it to low cal day and had some left over LC birthday cake, I feel much better but I am definitely going to get on the treadmill today.

Day 63!! 187 lbs

Please excuse my complaints and ramblings today.

Went to strollersize for the third time this week. I have had lots of hunger and cravings this week, which got me thinking if the extra exercise is causing this. I have found that in the past to be true. I just don't know if I should cut back on it or keep going and hope that in a couple of weeks the muscle gain will really increase my metabolism or I will get used to it? I am really enjoying my time there and I know I am improving my body in so many ways...I just think it may be making weight loss more difficult at this time. What should I do?

I was stuck at 187lbs for many months the last time I dieted last year(a different type diet). That was sooo demoralizing and I don't want to be there again. My dietary approach is different and I am more active so I was hoping I would have a steady loss, today is my last day of week 9 and I am doubful I have lost anything this week (again).

As proud of myself as I am for sticking with this 100% for 9 weeks and for working so hard physically, I must see those pounds go, it is just really annoying to be bouncing like this. Somehow I doubt I have put on so much muscle that I see no scale weight loss but I guess it is possible.

I will be very crabby if I have to lower my calories to 1500 per day to see movement but I guess this may be my reality.

Goal #2 is to hit 180lbs by mid April and I just can't see that happening at the rate I am going!

Do you think you could be losing inches, and just not seeing it on the scale? Do you take measurements? I highly recommend doing that if not-- it helps me out a LOT when the scale isn't moving like I want it to. Sorry for the frustration, I know it's tough! Blech! I don't have much advice to offer as far as the workouts go as I don't workout (yet anyway).

I will be measuring tomorrow morning Lauren, you are right, measurements are more important. Why do I always focus on that darn scale then?

Ugh ~ I know the feeling!! I wish I had advice, but the truth is every person's body is different. Some people go sailing along on basic LC with no problems, some have to cut dairy, some have to cut nuts, some have to increase calories, some have to decrease them, some increase fat, some cut it out completely and eat lean.

I would say "be patient" but as someone who was stuck for nearly 2 months, my best advice is: try experimenting. If you're already feeling hungry I would not recommend cutting calories even further, maybe add something -- like healthy fats? or eliminate a specific ingredient -- nuts, dairy, etc. and just see how that goes for a week or so.

You're doing great & I'm sure positive changes are happening, whether reflected on the scale or not. So, keep up the good work and whatever you decide to do, good luck! It's understandably disappointing when we're doing everything "by the book" and the scale isn't reflecting that.

thanks so much Bren, this will certainly require some tweaking

Friday was extra busy, I did my strollersize class (1 hour), then vacuumed my car for one hour and then later in the evening went to party and danced for 3.5 hours non stop (I didn't eat anything at the party and drank only water). Woke up and weighed myself...I gained a pound! I refused to write that in my journal so I waited like 2 hours, didn't eat anything, did my business and then weighed again and came down a pound! The week was disappointing enough without that gain. sigh

Day 64 and 65!! 187.6 lbs. and 187.4 lbs.

We went to a restaurant last night and I always eat more calories even when just sticking to lc food, I estimate my calories were 2500 and carbs 45 for the day, ouch!!

From this day on my goal is to keep my calories under 2000, I know I did this with ease a couple of weeks ago and I can do it again. I am just going to have to tweak things and not eat whenever I just want something.

I just wanted to say again, that it surprises me how easy it is to overeat on this plan. I know a lot of people say they aren't hungry and for some it is hard to eat enough, I am not finding this is happening to me. Could this be a sign my metabolism and system is more broken? Am I having difficulty keto adapting? Do I need to stick to a lower carb allowance? I will have to continue on experimenting and see what works, I know I am eating too much on most days and I need to understand why. If I didn't track my food I probably would have allowed myself to eat more than this and that would most certainly mean weight gain.

Day 66! 187.4 lbs

Just came back from my strollersize class, feeling stronger today, did push ups like never before!

I decided I would try having a slice of bread with breakfast this morning. It was a small slice of sprouted grain bread, 7 net carbs which isn't horrible. I figured I may be able to afford it because it is workout day but I will have to see how it fits in and how it makes me feel. I did enjoy every little bite and it made me feel fine so far.

My goal is to come under 2000 calories everyday and under 40grams in carbs. Yesterday I did well with 1843 calories and 35.8grams carbs.

HAPPY MONDAY!

Day 67!! 186 lbs

Feeling very tired today as I had a bad night staying up with my sick toddler. I am going to take it easy (I have plenty of laundry to do) and pay close attention to my food today.

Yesterday I did great, calories 1773, 39.2grams carbs. I drank my water, drank my broth and did my exercise!

Here's hoping I see 184 soon!!

Day 68!! 186.2lbs

Went to strollersize today!

Yesterday was a little high in calories, 2269, carbs were 40.8 grams. There is definately a link between wanting to eat more and snow falling outside. So today I am planning on making up for it.

In other news, I made awesome peanut butter, coconut chocolate pecan cups. If I can get a good picture, I will post it. They were so easy to make and amazing to eat!

I am just recovering from the stomach flu at the moment, I will post the recipe soon.

Day 69!! 185 lbs A NEW LOW!!

I came down with the stomach flu on Day 69 (Thursday) but I weighed myself before I became sick.

Day 70! 182.6 lbs

Normally I would be jumping for joy but this new low came from having the stomach flu, this is one way to break a stall but I doubt it will stick. I am still not feeling normal today and likely not be able to eat normally. What does one eat with the stomach flu when one is trying to eat LC? I had one slice of 7g carb toast and 1 egg for breakfast but what do I eat for the rest of the day? In the past I would have had a BRAD diet but now what?

Congrats on the new low, but I'm sorry you're feeling crummy! That totally stinks. Stomach flu is the woooorst. I think I've read on here that other people do chicken broth when they're ill? I wouldn't worry about it too much tbh, I would do whatever you need to just to get better!

thanks for the concern Lauren. I have been eating toast with butter and egg, my carbs are going to be a little high today but I will try and still come under 50grams. I have been trying to drink broth as well. There is nothing else that I want to eat at this time.

Because these are high in fat they are a good way to increase your fat intake on a keto diet.

PB chocolate pecan cups~

12 tbsp. coconut oil (melted)
6 tbsp. cocoa powdered (non sweetened, Fry's is good)
6 tbsp. sweetener of choice(I powdered some truvia, I am going to try powdered xylitol next time, there was a slight aftertaste with the truvia)
17 tsp. peanut butter (I used crunchy, make sure the ingredients say peanuts only)
17 pecan halves
sea salt to taste
makes 17 mini cups

I have this mini cupcake silicon tray that works well, I have seen some stiffer paper cupcake forms that should work for this as well.

Mix the cocoa and sweetener into the melted oil and pour 1 tbsp. of this into 17 mini cupcake forms. Put this into the freezer for about 15 min until hard (I wasn't paying attention to the time so 5 minutes may be enough time). Put one tsp of peanut butter onto each chocolate cup, sprinkle with sea salt and press one half of a pecan in. Put back into freezer 5-10 minutes to set. Pop the cups out and put into a container, keep in the fridge.

approximate macro's (this will vary depending on sweetener used, I used Truvia)
139 calories/13.5grams fat/ 1.8grams protein/.7 grams carbs

Oh no, sorry you're not feeling well. When I was sick I made my favorite chicken noodle soup without the noodles and just put extra chicken and celery in it for some substance. It was probably all in my head, but it made me feel better. I hope you get well soon.

WEEK 10 DONE!!!

(My week starts on a Saturday) This week was interesting, the scale was moving slowly in the right direction probably because I was reducing my calories just a little bit. Then on Thursday I fell ill with the stomach flu and started losing more weight from just plain not eating. I had a big loss this week but I fully expect at least half of it to come back on once I feel normal again. It shall be interesting to see what happens.

Week 1 loss (Atkins induction) 5.6
Week 2 loss (Atkins induction) 1.8

my accomplishments and observations this week~

-LOSS this week and a NEW LOW!!

-this week I felt I had more energy, could it be because I drank more broth or could I be adjusting to the level of exercise?
-went to strollersize (1 hour weights and HIIT training) two X this week
-no cheats but I have been tasting food that is off plan if I prepare it myself
-introduced 1 slice of bread (7 grams carbs) every morning, I had more while I was sick as that is almost all I could eat

Day 71! 183.4
Day 72! 183.4
Day 73! 181.6!! something has got to be wrong with my scale, I am sure it will be back to normal tomorrow, I will still be happy if I stay at 183.4 by which point I can change my stats.

Today I felt very good and was able to get back into my strollersize class. I decided to try it out in a fasted state, meaning I skipped my breakfast and drank only a glass of water with half a fresh squeezed lime (which I hear is excellent for cleansing the liver btw). My workout starts at 10:15am. I meant to drink broth before I left the house but I forgot. I did really well during my workout and when I got home I was ravenous! While the old me would haved rewarded my good behaviour with a high fat, high carb drive thru lunch, the new me prepared myself a delicious big plate of LC pad thai using konjac noodles. For dessert I had a piece of mock banana bread that I made over the weekend. DEEElicious!

Thanks ladies!

Day 74!! 182.4 lbs

I am just happy that I have been under 185 lbs for five days, maybe getting the stomach flu is worth it

I will be off of the forums for a few days, we are going on a trip to visit family. I am hoping that I can still eat properly while I am away. My next weigh in will be on Sunday.
