Suzy's Weight Loss Journal - SLD + JUDDD

Ok, time to start a journal to keep me on track! I did JUDDD several months ago with some success, but I started getting too loose with the calorie counts, vacations and holidays came and went, and now I'm right back where I started. I'm afraid to step on the scale, but I'm guessing around 167. As soon as the bloating is down and the jeans are fitting better, I'll get on the scale, PROMISE!

What diet am I doing? I'm going to experiment with a couple of different things. I'm taking MCT oil for the first time, which I'm hoping causes bulletproof appetite suppression like some get on the Shangri-La Diet. If I do get that appetite suppression then I won't need to count calories at all because I'll never want to eat (had success on SLD before). If that doesn't kick in then it's JUDDD all the way. The JUDDD calculator says 399 and 1997 (aka 400 and 2000). I wear a fitbit almost every day and try to hit 10K steps, and sometimes do weights, so on those days I might up the numbers slightly.

OK, here we go!!!!!

1/21 - 1 T. MCT oil with 2 hour window (SLD thing), 4 T. half&half in coffee, 1T. MCT oil with 2 hour window = 283 calories

Feeling happy and relieved today that I'm on a new path. One successful down day, wasn't hard at all, didn't wake up starving by any means, already feeling lighter. I might be ready to weigh myself in a few days to really kick things off!

Thank you Zipp2play!

And I gotta say I love doing the ticker thing in my signature. For me, the more I obsess about it and think about it and see it, the more successful I'll be.

Well, yesterday I'm pretending didn't happen. It was all going well for an up day. But I think I had too many stir fried vegetables at dinner...it was A LOT. Plus I did have 2T. of MCT oil earlier...maybe too much at once. Right after dinner, I got major tummy upset and my whole system was completely cleaned out. So am going to do another up day today to try to normalize the GI track

1/21 494 calories, EOD Appetite Suppression = 7
1/22 X

So yesterday was an up day and it was busy, but I can't think of a time that I finished an up day with such a big calorie deficit. I got home from a school meeting, and that meeting might have killed my appetite - I looked in the cupboards for something to eat and ended up with just a tea. I'm really hoping it's actually true appetite suppression from the MCT oil. Time will tell!

I ate about twice the calories of a typical DD because had those tummy issues again. Figured my body didn't absorb lots of calories already in my system so I ate some extra - I was hungry! Although the 2T. of MCT oil is still upsetting my tummy, I feel like it might be doing the AS good. For one, when I did eat tonight I chose an orange and pistachios - not junk. When I was on SLD several years ago I would crave healthy foods. And now it's 10:30pm and my habitual brain is telling me to go get a small bowl of cereal. But I'm not and I'm not super craving it. Fingers crossed MCT oil is doing its thing!

Feeling optimistic that the MCT oil is working! Although I haven't been taking nearly as much as the SLD diet says to, I'm starting to feel like I just plain don't want to eat. So excited! 578 calories today with 210 of that being oil. Not hungry or craving anything.

Very good AS again today. In fact, I was at about 1200 calories (which included 200 from MCT oil) and pretty much made myself eat more tonight to hit that UD target. And I still didn't get to 2000, but no way am I eating more tonight. If the MCT oil is working (SLD style), and I think it is, then I need to decide if I want to keep the UD/DD thing going. Or do I simple eat what I'm hungry for, which is going to be much less than 2000 cals on an UD. Maybe I'll give it another few days to convince myself that the SLD is working. I don't want to mess up my metabolism from doing too many DDs unless it's for sure going to push down my set point (which I believe SLD does).

Ya know, I don't even know! I know it's edible, has some good stuff, supposedly good for weight loss in general. Have you heard of the Shangri-La Diet? Rule #1 is the oil needs to be flavorless and MCT oil fits that requirement better than any other oil I've tried - and I've tried plenty. Some people just add MCT oil to their smoothies or coffee and it helps with their weight loss. I drink it in water with a 2 hour window surrounding, as the SLD diet dictates. When the SLD works, it COMPLETELY kills your appetite or any cravings. Like you completely forget to eat. It is so liberating and the weight melts off effortlessly. I'm trying to get that back!

Still having tummy issues when I drink the MCT on an empty stomach. I think I've lost some fat but most of it is probably fluid. Jeans fitting a whole lot better! I'm about 2 lbs away from the lowest weight I've been in the last 14 years. If I can break through that 160 barrier, it's going to be a new me!

Major tummy upset last night after second dose of MCT oil. Everything 100% cleaned out! (sorry TMI). So naturally my weight is down. I'm thinking my stomach should start getting used to the oil soon. Did 3T yesterday instead of the usual 2 since SLD says I really should take 3.5 for best AS. Trying to decide if today should be an UD or DD.

Not happy with how many calories I ate today, granted 200 of them were oil. And I should have better AS tonight. I could pretty easily have another small bowl of cereal, but I've convinced myself I'm thirsty and not hungry. So sparkling mineral water it is and then straight to bed! DD tomorrow.

So much for DD. My excuse - 1st day of tom, very emotional day w/friend moving out of state day before and public irrational meltdown :O All considering, guess it could've gone way worse. And today is not going to be a DD either due to a social occasion tonight. Back on path tomorrow hopefully!

Ugh, completely fell off the wagon. Went to a party Saturday and it was downhill from there. Must get back with the program!!!! Although I didn't keep track today, it was probably a medium day, but full of sugar. I'm going to attempt a DD tomorrow, with MCT oil.

Awww, thanks Zipp! I'm just now seeing this. Fell off the wagon for a few more days!!!!

Ok, so I have come to the realization that trying to do the SLD diet with MCT oil is NOT going to work. My stomach cannot get used to it and every single time without fail it causes some major GI disruption. And the disruption interferes with the UDs and DDs - like today is supposed to be a DD but since essentially all the calories from yesterday never got absorbed, I need more than 500 today. So I'm quitting the 2T of MCT oil. I may not quit MCT oil altogether tho, as I have read some interesting things about it and it does truly seem like a very healthy oil. I'll just have to go with 1T. at a time and mix it with food somehow. Bummer SLD did not work out....really is the holy grail of diets when it works.

The other change I think I'm going to try to make is no eating after a certain hour. Late night eating has screwed up my stats for the day on more than one occasion. Plus, I think when I eat late at night, no matter what it is, it turns straight into fat. Nothing scientific...that's just what it feels like when I wake up the next morning. So maybe I'll start with no food after 7pm and see how that goes.

And btw, I am certain I'm quite a bit above 161.8. I shall not weigh myself again until I suspect I'm very near or below that level. Hopefully 2-3 successful DDs and I'll be there!

Broke my new rule of no eating past 7pm. I realized around 6:30 I still needed to eat 1000+ calories. For some reason following a DD, I wake up and don't feel like eating. Need to eat more earlier in the day on an UD even if I don't feel like it.

One day at a time girl! You can do this. I am typically not hungry in the a.m. on an UP DAY, but on a DD, I am starving!

Screwed up today. I had a Starbucks Marshmallow Dream Bar, thinking it was 100 calories or so. Wrong. The new version is 240 calories!!! I guess I can compensate tomorrow since I'll be driving all day and probably won't get near 2000 calories.
