My Weight Loss and Meals

I've decided to start a journal. The last time I was here, I didn't and I didn't stick with this WOE. Hopefully, keeping track of what I'm eating will help.

I ended November at: 247.0
12/01-244.6
12/02-244.0

Lunch: Omelet - 3 eggs; 2 oz. bacon; 1.6 ozs. cheese
Snack: Hot Chocolate
Dinner: Winter Shake

This is my first time having a journal too. And, I have been here before and failed. If anything, it helps you stay on track. It's sort of a commitment that you have to come on everyday and log in your food. Good luck!

Good luck Judy! You can do this. And I have to ask you, what is in a Winter Shake? It sounds really good! If you have a recipe, can you please post it?

Hi, Gail....I try to use protein shakes for one of my 2 meals each day. However, I find they just aren't appealing in the Winter when it's so cold. I live in Nebraska. SO....a few years ago I devised what I call a Winter Shake. I put the protein powder (1 & 1/2 scoops) in a small bowl, add a shot of DaVinci's Sugar Free Syrup, about 1 to 1 & 1/2 TBS of Heavy Whipping Cream to add some fat. Stir, add water (a tsp at a time) until it's the consistency of raw cake batter. Then I add 1 to 2 TBSP of Cool Whip. Stir and eat. They are really good.

Here's a sample of them with Chocolate Protein Powder.

I use instant coffee crystals & Kahlua Syrup for a Kahlua/Coffee shake.
Raspberry syrup and instant coffee crystals for a Raspberry/Coffee shake.
Caramel (or Pancake Syrup) for a Chocolate/Caramel shake
Mint syrup for a Chocolate/Mint Shake
Coconut syrup for a "Mounds" shake
Coconut syrup and Almond flavoring for an "Almond Joy" shake
Cherry syrup for a "Chocolate Covered Cherry shake"

I also use Strawberry-Banana and Vanilla Protein Powder. I make them the same way just varying the syrups that I use, although I have only used cherry syrup with the Strawberry-Banana powder.

I like the Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard Protein Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Gold Standard Protein powder that Netrition.com sells better than any other I have found. I avoid all things soy so the whey powder suits me.

I hope this helps.

I hardly ever eat breakfast, although I do eat "breakfast foods" for lunch a lot. I LOVE bacon & eggs and omelets, etc. I'm never hungry when I get up. I only ate dinner and didn't eat lunch either until I was in my 40s and went to work. I was a stay-at-home Mom until my last kid was 12. Then I started going out with people at work and got in the habit of eating lunch and have never given it up. Probably part of my problem.

I was having a shake for lunch and then dinner, but I got to thinking about that old adage, "Eat like a king for breakfast, a prince for lunch, and a pauper for dinner" so I switched my main meal to lunch and a shake at dinner (most of the time)....unless I go out to eat or over to someone's house for dinner. Then I have the shake at lunch and "try" to be careful at dinner....unless, of course, it's Thanksgiving or Christmas. Those are FREE days for me no matter what.

My biggest downfall is eating out. I am really trying to curb that this time around. It seems that no matter where or when, if people get together it involves eating and/or drinking.

I'm going to start posting "yesterday's" food counts each day. Since I post in the morning, it's better. That way if there's a change later in the day, I can post it correctly the following day.

12/02-244.0
12/03-242.6
12/04-242.8
12/05-242.4....Not much, but better than UP!!

Lunch: 5.5 oz. grilled hamburger; 6 brussel sprouts with butter

UP 0.2 lbs this morning!!
Most likely from the sausages. They are pretty high calorie, and I have more of them.
Could be the cheese too, or a combination of both.

Lunch: 2 Chicken/Asiago Sausages; Steamed Cauliflower w/butter
Snack: Hot Chocolate
Dinner: 4 slices deli cheese; Hot Chocolate

Pretty sure it's the chicken sausages. Gonna have bacon & eggs for lunch and see if I can break the cycle. Still have one sausage left. More in the freezer but they can wait awhile.

Yesterday’s Menu

Lunch: 2 Chicken/Asiago Sausages; Steamed Broccoli w/butter
Snack: Hot Chocolate
Dinner: Almond Joy Winter Shake

Judy, thanks for posting the Winter Shake recipe -- all of those combinations sound delicious! I can't wait to try them. You are losing weight pretty steadily -- good for you!

Do you guys have alot of snow? We just got some in Boston -- making for a very messy commute today. I hear you guys have tons of snow.

Gail....If I eat more I gain. Since I'm retired, I'm pretty sedentary, especially in the winter. AND I totally destroyed my metabolism when Susan Powter was popular. I don't know if you remember her, she was popular in the 90s...her mantra was "If it's fat, you're fat." She advocated a low-fat/high-carb diet and I fell for it for almost 10 years until I heard about "The Protein Power Plan" by the Drs. Eades. They saved my life. I'd either be dead or weigh 500 lbs by now if I had kept eating like I was. I ate a LOT and I was hungry all the time. I wish I had "never" heard of her. I was only 10-15 lbs overweight at the time....now I'm 80-90 lbs overweight. She's lucky I don't know where she lives.

I must admit that some of this is my own durn fault. Eating out with family/friends and the holidays have been my downfall. I've curtailed that and am being "good" so it's coming off. Once I get it off I'll be able to eat more but not now. I feel fine and am VERY seldom sick even when others are so I guess I'm good so long as I get adequate protein. We don't need ANY carbs. Don't ever let anyone tell you that you do. The "few" that your brain needs are made by your body....the liver, I think.

I didn't realize you had a journal!! HI!

Laughing about the Susan Powter thing... I used to watch her informercials religiously...I had one of her workout "step" videos...loved it but man, it was ridiculous looking back now

She's probably living in a hut somewhere on the side of a mountain growing her herbs and screaming at the wildlife to stop the insanity.

Today’s Weight…243...UP 2.6 lbs!!!

Yesterday’s Menu

Lunch: Lunch out @ Grand China Buffet
Snack: Hot Chocolate
Dinner: Winter Shake

It's a good thing I don't eat at GCB very often. It's always worth 3 to 3.5 lbs. Although, I know a lot of it is water retention because it comes off fairly quickly if I'm "good" for a few days.

Danielle....I take it you didn't follow her STUPID advice about eating low-fat/high-carb. I can't tell you where I hope she's living. It would probably get me banned from the board.

Judy, you keep losing though! That is great. I think I read somewhere that Susan Powter is bankrupt -- a couple of bad divorces I think.

Am I a bad person for laughing at that? Can't help it. She ruined so many lives....and I know people who are STILL following her stupid advice. At least I'm not still trapped there.

Dinner: Dinner at Kobe's Steak House for Sheri's b-day.

It's a good thing I only go to Kobe's once a year. I always eat the crispy fried rice. It is SO good and that's the ONLY place/time I ever eat rice. Not to mention the fact that I had a regular lunch instead of a shake yesterday....and I had Fireball Whiskey on the Rocks after dinner. Now to be "good" until Christmas and get this back off.
