Lisa....That's GREAT news about the Univ. He must be smart....but then, he would be...he's YOUR son, after all.

Is there a bus you could take instead of putting all those miles on your car?
I'll say some prayers for your safety and the car's reliability.

Yes they are a treat I've been eating for dessert at night! I do not crave anything afterwards its awesome!

That Tuscano soup just looks delish. I think i'll make it Friday night for dinner and then leftovers on the weekend.

We got back this evening. The trip went great! The car was great on the road, although I have to say, I never did let my guard down. I was constantly looking at all of the gauges. It was an emotional trip for me. On the way home, Andrew slept, and I pretty much balled my eyes out the whole 3 hours home. ONU will be his new home come August 13. He finally declared it today. I paid the $200 deposit for the dorm room, and now it begins. The coaches were all so happy, they were hugging him and welcoming him. The other players were patting him on his back and he was loving it. It's like he already has started a new family...without me.

The entire trip, I stayed in the "The Inn" on campus. Andrew's visit was specifically just for him to get to know the team, attend a class or two, see what campus life is really like without the coaches and teachers. And me. The hotel was very luxurious. The shower was spa-like. I took the book "The Fault in Our Stars" by John Green. I read it front to back. When we arrived, I got a drink and dinner. Dinner sucked. The drink was VERY Stiff. I was snuggled in bed, in this huge terry clothed robe, freshly showered by 6 p.m. At 12:30 a.m., the book was finished. And, there I was in this huge king sized bed, with a ton of super fluffy pillows, plush comforters, all the works...and I couldn't sleep. I just kept thinking. I was alone, and relaxed, and I couldn't sleep. It was horrible. I kept wondering what he was doing, if he was having fun, if the other kids were making him feel comfortable or not. And, I kept thinking, he was doing this without me. He was making this huge decision, and I really had no input. And, it hurt.

Then, this morning, I cut the check for $200 to secure his spot in the dorms. I asked if he was sure this is what he wanted, and he said absolutely. I could tell by the grin on his face and the lighthearted way he was talking and laughing that he had found his place...without me. After talking with admissions again, we went to lunch with the coaches in the cafeteria, and in walked the football players he had spent the night with the night before. And, they are all walking up and patting him on the back and saying welcome to the Polar Bears...and I had no idea who these kids were. It's the first time he has had friends that I didn't know. And me? I just sat there pushing my salad around on the plate. I wanted to cry right then, but instead I swallowed the emptiness and shook hands with all of the new teammates.

I am so happy for him I could burst. But, there is this emptiness inside as well. And, for the life of me, I can't push it down and far enough back to let my happiness shine through. I don't want him to know I feel weird about this. It is natural...I hope. My mom always said a good parent gives their children two things...one is roots, the other is wings.

Lisa....I know just how you feel. You should be proud of him for being who he is....and you should be EXTRA proud of yourself for making him who he is.

The first time my oldest left home, I lived in Omaha, NE and she went to Staten Island, NY with her Coast Guard husband and a new baby. THAT was hard. I didn't see her for over a year when I went to visit them for 2 weeks. After that visit, it was more than 2 years before I saw them again. That sucked. He was in the Coast Guard for 22 years and they lived everywhere (including Alaska). Now they live here....just 7 miles from me. I LOVE it!!

I'm happy for you that he will be close enough for you to see him more often, but you are right. It does hurt when they start making their own decisions. Thankfully, he's making good ones. So many (especially now) are not making good life choices. It sounds like he will be happy there and that's very important for both of you. Knowing he's happy and with new friends should help you deal with your feelings. Concentrate on all the wonderful things that are going on for him now and that will help you deal with the separation pains. It's hard, but time does make it easier to live with.

There's one thing that you can depend on....Nothing stays the same. Hugs, my friend.

Lisa, it is all normal, which doesn't make it any easier! I can't even imagine how it will feel. My DS is 15! I have 3 1/2 years before he heads off....and it feels like it will be tomorrow and he is gone!

on a side note:

I took the book "The Fault in Our Stars" by John Green. I read it front to back.
That is one of the BEST BOOKS EVER WRITTEN! I loved it. Talk about coming of age and life being tough. Glad you enjoyed it.

I am fine Thank you for asking. The weekend was work-a-holic...lol. I made a huge pot of corned beef and cabbage today. It has been on sale for a while now in anticipation of St. Patty's day, but I couldn't wait any longer So, that has pretty much been my food for the day.

Today, my sister posted a picture of me and the boys that was taken 10 years ago. Amazing. Both of my boys are so little

Yesterday...
cheese stick
burger w/bacon, mozzarella, tomato, onion, lettuce, little bit of TGIF Jack bbq sauce,(no bun) small portion of sweet potato fries
Taco from taco bell

Not the best day eating. I feel like I am on a slippery slope. I need to get things just a tad bit stricter. I am not gaining any weight, but I am not losing either. I do want to adjust my carbs to less than 50, maybe every third day or something. Not too crazy. Open up some veggie and fruit options for me. The sweet potato fries were delicious. Maybe once in a while having those...the taco bell on the other hand was in no way at all lc.

Today...so far..
cheesestick
2 slices ham w/tbsp cream cheese rolled up
calamari, sauteed
roasted duck, sweet potato fries (even smaller portion), about 1 tbsp sticky rice

I plan on making italian sausage for dinner. Simmered in tomato sauce w/ peppers and onions, garlic. I have buns for the boys to make italian sandwiches. I will just cut mine up and top it w/ a little mozzarella. YUM> I also have a cucumber in there begging to be cut up and tossed w/sour cream, salt and pepper. Sounds like a perfect side dish for tonight

This morning I am making cream cheese muffins, with another twist. I found a sf davinci's kahlua syrup. So, I used 1/4 c splenda, 1/4 c kahlua syrup, and one packet of instant folgers coffee. (one of those individual packets). They are baking right now. I can't wait to taste them!!!!

The boys and I are going to see the high school play tonight. They are doing "Annie". It's going to be a fun night out!

Today...
cream cheese muffin
leftover peppers and sausage w/ mozzarella (the last of it)
rotisserie chicken w/ creamed spinach
atkins m & m's

No idea what dinner will be. Probably a late one after the play. It starts at 7, and we are arriving around 6:15. Probably ending around 9-9:30.
