New Girl on the Block

Hey Everyone
I'm a newcomer to the community and thread. I am trying to re gain control of my life and make sense of things. I am aiming for a new lifestyle and trying to reach my goal weight. One of my main weakness is I struggle with a food journal, and have real fears of the scale. Can some of you guys relate? My other weakness is I have every excuse as to why I can't pack and take breakfast and lunch to work. I really need some help and support.

WELCOME to the journals girl! I bring both breakfast and lunch to work. Maybe if you make it up the night before that would help? I don't have time in the mornings to make it, as I make my children's lunch for them.

What plan are you following? Strict LC?

Keeping a food journal might seem like a daunting task in the beginning, but it has been in instrumental part in losing 71 pounds so far. It has become quite a relaxing part of my day. It makes me feel in control of myself and what I'm consuming. Bringing food from home also saves a ton of money and is just overall better for your health.

Welcome Toffiecakes! I, too, am afraid of the scale. What I do instead is test my urine every morning and each night with Ketostix to be sure that I am in ketosis and burning fat. You can buy these testing strips at any drug store and it is super easy to do. If you are doing Atkins or any other very low carb plan, this is a great alternative to perpetual scale watching to make sure you are on track.

I agree with the great advice from Monica and Cfine. Maybe you can bring some really simple things to work like celery sticks, Laughing Cow cheese, natural peanut butter, individual packs of almonds and peanuts, sliced turkey from the deli -- these are all things that you don't have to make. You can just grab and go.
