Perfect timing for a "whoosh" on the scale

Good morning!

Tomorrow I head out for the Easter weekend. I'm excited to see family and be "taken care of" for a few days while at dad's, but I'm not looking forward to what all the Easter food is going to do to me. haha

With that said, this was perfect timing for the "whoosh" I got on the scale this week.

Since I won't be near my frenemy the scale tomorrow (Saturday is my usual weigh-in day) I'm doing it today. I lost 6.2lbs this week!

Now keep in mind, previous to this week I've been pretty bad with fast food eating and loading on the carbs, BUT this week I have redeemed myself obviously. I owe this to 1) only eating the food I myself prepared/not going out to eat. 2.) sticking to low-carb 100% honestly (love the new pizza recipe I found; I could live on that for the rest of the month) and 3.) adding in some cardio-- got in a jump rope workout on Tuesday, and even though I only exercised 1-day this week, jumping rope is so High Intensity the effects carry on for 2-3 days afterward.

I hope every enjoys the holiday weekend.

Cheers.

Non Scale Victories

Hope everyone had a blessed and Happy Easter. I did. It was very special. What really made it special was the fact that my father and my aunt and cousin complemented my weight loss so far. This is a big deal to me b/c it is the first time either party has vocally acknowledged it in the year that I've been doing low carb. It meant a lot hearing the congrats and kudos from everyone. Just added motivation to keep going and keep slimming down.

April 19th (Sat.)- kudos from dad
April 20th (Sun.)- kudos from aunt and cousin

Two red letter days for me!

April Summary

April is gone (wow this year is just moving along, isn't it?), so I thought I'd check my progress to date.

In April, I lost 7.6lbs

So far in 2014, I have lost 18.8lbs!

Here is hoping that by mid-May I am at a new all-time low!

Cheers!

Thank you, windygap.
I will admit that I am disappointed that I've only gotten in 6miles of walking, so far for Spring and Summer '14, but I will try to make up for it in the months to come. Hope you have a wonderful and blessed holiday as well.

Friday, May 30, 2014

Very tiring day at work today, but there was a silver lining.

It was casual Friday and I wore shorts and a "golf shirt" polo to work. A co-worker asked me "you look great, how much have you lost?" Now, I have never discussed, or talked about my wanting to lose weight/WOE, etc. with him before. This was a pleasant surprise, and a much needed compliment. I've been really frustrated with my fluctuations on the scale as of recently and this was a very nice way for me to keep in mind that I have indeed come a long way since April 2013.

The moral: People will notice the positive change you are making even when you yourself do not.

Taco Salad makes a Great Low Carb Meal

I have been low carbing since April 2013, and I never thought of this... pretty embarrassing. It is quick... it is simple.... and it keeps you full (just finished my plate of it.)

Taco Salad Without the Shell

Ingredients
1-2lbs of Lean Ground Beef
shredded lettuce
Cheddar Shredded cheese
Chunky Salsa
Sour Cream
(any other veggies you like)
(any seasonings you like) pepper, taco seasoning, chili powder, etc.

Directions
1. Brown ground beef
2. Add seasonings
3. On a plate or bowl place a layer of lettuce
4. Add your ground beef on top of your lettuce.
5. Put your shredded cheese on top of the beef.
6. Add the salsa (as much as you like)
7. Top with sour cream.

Enjoy!

May Summary/Reflections

Wow, another month has gone by and Summer is 21 days away (June 21st).

For the month of May I only lost 2.4lbs...but it could be worse, I could have gained, so I'll take the loss.

The compliments kept coming this month, the most recent being yesterday. It came from a male co-worker. I don't know why, but compliments coming from males seems to mean more to me. Women are always so observant and notice detail (and we love you all for that), men are so oblivious 95% of the time (and I am a guy, so I know what I'm talking about.. LOL), so for one of them to say "Hey man, you look good; How much have you lost?" That means a lot.

This is a far-cry from where I was May 2013. I am actually looking forward to Summer and wearing shorts and what-not.

Going Low Carb and deciding to love myself again is without a doubt one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life.

Thanks to all the support here at lowcarbfriends. I can never thank you all enough.

Wishing you all much success!

I read through your journal and I have to say I’m so impressed with your success. You have remained dedicated to the lifestyle changes you’ve made and the results have proven you right.

When I was in a stall or losing very slowly I would say to myself, as you do, compared to where I was a year ago I’m in a much better place now than then.

Your posts are always upbeat and cheerful which makes them fun to read. Keep up the great work and I know you will achieve your goal.

6/7- 10mins of jumping rope along with a video on the smartphone; roughly 750-800 jumps completed. "10 minutes of jumping rope is better than zero minutes of jumping rope." That's what I said to myself this morning, and that's exactly what I did. I took out the jump rope and following along with a video online I completed a Tabata style HIIT jump rope workout. It feels good to know I've burned some calories and with it being so early (5:30a.m.) I'm motivated to "move it, move it" some more. Maybe get that 2mile walk in as well. Go me!

The past few weeks

The past few weeks have been a challenge. With summer coming and the warmer weather, a lot of people have been having get-togethers and parties, and you know what that means...not the best low carb environment. I am happy to say that over the past few weeks its only been small gains. I've stayed within the same 5 pounds when it comes to fluctuations. I am grateful bc I know it could be lot worse.

I'm heading home to see family next week, so I am going the extra mile this week with my low carbing and all. More jumpe rope workouts...going back to days where the only thing I drink is clear water. Going back to BPC , etc. We will see how my efforts turned out once I do a weigh in Saturday.

A random victory-- I finally completed some high knees while doing the jump rope workout this morning. That move has always been so difficult for me. But even though I did not do it long...I can do about 10 and then I mess up...it is something "new" for me. I'm excited about it, and hope that it will help me in the fat loss department.

Speaking of fat loss, I was reading someone's post about how a woman lost all kinds of fat and gained muscle, but still ended up being the same weight of 155lbs. Thats kind of the way ive been feeling about myself and my weight these days... I could care less if I weighed 350lbs again, if it was a muscular and healthy 350, and there lies my problem, or did anyway....it was a chubby, out of shape 350lbs. But I can look back and smile and know that I have now gained the knowledge to get myself where I want to be on this Fat loss journey.

Unfortunately, I am not "beach body ready" at the moment.... but who knows what August may bring or Summer 2015 if I am blessed enough to live and see it. But that is okay. I am already happier, healthier, and skinner than I was at this time last summer, and if I play my cards right I will be able to say the exact same to myself next summer in 2015 about right now!

Wishing everyone the very best in their low carb ventures.
