Hi

Well, I'm back.

The main reason I'm starting a journal is to keep track of a few things as well as weight loss.

July 1 2013
I called to find out what my cholesterol results were. I had a pancreas attack the week before and they were checking to make sure my cholesterol wasn't causing me to make gall stones that were getting in the way of my pancreas. (I had my gall bladder removed last Dec.) The good/ok news was my cholesterol was 188. The not so good news, I was told I was diabetic. The A1C reading was 6.2 Come in as soon as possible. I was on my way to work so I told them I'd be in on Wednesday July 3. I wasn't too happy about that news as I'd just started taking a low dose of blood pressure medication after getting a really high reading in the ER.

I stopped in on my way home from work. They prescribed a glucose meter and want me to take 250 mg of metformin, I have to break a 500 in half. When the pharmacist was showing me how to take the blood test my blood sugars was 95 non fasting, I had eaten low carb all night. I went home and slept 9 hours, woke up and took my bs and it was 91.

This morning when I woke up my bs was 80. I haven't taken the metformin yet. I'll try it today.

Yesterday I weighed 378 with my work boots/clothes on at the Dr. office. The week before I weighed 371, but that was with shorts/t-shirt and tennis shoes on and nothing in my pockets so I'm thinking it's about the same even tho he said I'd gained 7 pounds.

The goal, lose the weight, stop having to prick my fingers and stop having to take the low dose of blood pressure medication I'd just started taking the week before.

Thanks, yes, you are so right about the people. I hope you had a Happy 4th too.

blood sugar reading this morning 77. I did take the metformin on the 4th after my salad.

I'll have to look around a see what a low fasting blood sugar level is, just in case it keeps going down.

something good to know,

Signs of Low Blood Sugar

Some medications, such as beta-blockers, can mask low blood sugar symptoms. If low blood sugar levels happen frequently, you have nerve damage, or take certain medications, you may become desensitized to the signs. This is called hypoglycemia unawareness. Also, if your blood sugar levels have been regularly high for a prolonged period, you may experience symptoms when your levels drop, although your levels may not be below 70 mg/dL.

Mild Symptoms

Blood sugar below 70 mg/dL
Perspiration
Shaking, trembling or feeling nervous
Mouth or lips tingling, tongue numbness, or metallic taste
Numbness or tingling of fingertips
Hunger
Rapid heartbeat

Moderate Symptoms

Blood sugar below 55 mg/dL
Weakness
Drowsiness
Confusion or inability to pay attention
Difficulty speaking
Mood changes such as aggressiveness, anxiety, irritability or tearfulness
Dizziness, headache or blurred vision
Clumsiness, jerkiness, and coordination problems
Difficulty walking
Paleness

Severe Symptoms

Blood sugar below 40 mg/dL
Low body temperature
Convulsions or seizures
Loss of consciousness or coma
Note: If low blood sugar occurs during sleep, you may experience nightmares, night sweats, irritability, confusion and feeling tired upon waking.

Looks like something to avoid.

Ha!!! I just got off the phone with my Dr. I told him about my blood sugars dropping every day and that today's was 77 after taking the pill yesterday for the first time. He told me to stop taking the pill and to not take it unless my fasting blood sugar was over 130.

Hi Bobby,

I am new to this site since you were gone. It sounds like you are doing great with the numbers comeing down. If you get upset and need to talk we are all here to support you.

I was doing Atkins to get away from pre diabetic. I have found a new way of eating thanks to Monica. I am doing JUDDD and my weight has dropped down 9 lbs this month. I am hopeing my numbers will be good in Oct for my fasting test.

If you just need a place to yell and let off steam as a lot of us want to do after seeing a doctor this is a great place to do it.

Thanks windygap, I'm not too upset anymore. I was mostly down about it for the first couple of days but since then I'm ok with it all

FBS 85 I tried something yesterday. I ate a LOT of carbs yeterday in the form of hazel nut spread 5 heaping tablespoons and 4 packets of apple cinnamon oatmeal. As well as having peas with my meal last night and my blood sugars were still normal.

I'm starting to doubt I have diabetes. Not that I'm going to go off low carb eating. I still need to lose the weight. I'b back to eating low carb again today at least not going to eat so many as I did yesterday.
