5 week notes:
I quit the urge this past week to weigh in most days; want to try to keep weighing on Saturdays and will post weights here every 2 weeks. I took my measurements and recorded them today for the first time.

Exercise: I didn't get much chance to power-walk the past 2 weeks due to construction in the basement (where the treadmill is) and extremely goofy weather outside. I've been averaging 45 minutes on the treadmill and 3 miles when I walk outside.

Eating: within the last 2 weeks, I did pretty well with staying well within the Atkins Induction foods guidelines. I had about 4 days that I went over 20 grams, by pretty much consuming more veggies than I should have (ie, one day I had 4 or more raw measured CUPS of roasted kale). I'm ok with that as it's better than high carb foods. I did have a few nights where I had a craving for something sweet - that tea/splenda/cream couldn't conquer alone. Those days I had an Atkins candy bar (only one) and it helped tremendously even though I don't believe they are allowed on Induction. One other help is Extra gum - the dessert varieties are fun and I've had only 1-2 sticks per day if any at all, but it helps with the "i need to snack/crunch/chew" urge, especially in the afternoon at the 3-5pm timeframe.

Overall I'm ecstatic that I am not hungry all day, have few cravings, no gas issues and am I'm really motivated to walk.

Goal for next 2 weeks:
Keep on Induction, (and really monitor the hwc/cheese/veggie allowances) keep more protein snacks on hand (ie roasted turkey, hb eggs). Try to get in more outside walks - at least 3x during the weekday and 3 or more morning treadmill walks! Eat when hungry, don't gorge. Keep it all recorded in nutrition-tracker.

Random note-at 5 weeks induction, I've noticed that my strongest cravings were:

Evening glass of red wine
Evening chocolate/or sweet snack

Happily, the (weekday) 3pm raging urge to snack on 'the world' while I work hasn't occurred! I'm soooo happy about that!!!

So psyched that I lost 4 lbs in the last 2 weeks - this is truly motivating. My husband told me that he can see a difference already with this 14 lb total loss so far! I visited my in-laws for dinner last night and my MIL took one look at me and said "what have you been doing to yourself?"

Eating - I have been following the Atkins Rules of Induction for the most part with these exceptions:

-I'm chewing Extra Dessert Delights gums - about 1-2x a day which has been a HUGE help especially in the afternoon - when i get the 3pm munchie-thoughts. I figure the gum has 2g carbs, but 2g sugar alcohols, so I choose NOT TO count those grams.

-I HAVE gone over 20-25 grams of carbs on some days, completely due to too many induction-legal vegetables.

-I HAVE eaten an Atkins Indulge bar - maybe 3x in the last 2 weeks, when I felt like I needed a dessert. They haven't spoiled me yet. I am not eating these everyday; i want them on hand to help me out and so far so good...a pretty useful tool. I have been too lazy at that point in the evenings to whip up whipping cream after my evening walks.

-I had natural pb mixed with splenda 2x in the last 2 weeks. I know its not induction legal, but it successfully kicked a craving.

Exercise:
-Walking around the neighborhood or on my treadmill. My July goal is to walk 4x a week or more and so far I've kept up. I'm averaging anywhere from 2 to 4.5 miles in a session, depending on my schedule. I have woken up early to make several of these sessions happen, but its mainly after dinner when I get out there.

-Some stretching in the evening.

Goals for the next 2 weeks:
-STRIVE to keep the carbs under 25 grams. I know I can do it!

-Continue to walk 4x a week

-stretch more often

7/27 notes posted late on 7/30 (& currently on vacation):

I averaged a pound a week in the last 2 weeks. I am not surprised at that due to not following induction precisely. I discovered Quest bars, and while the non sugar alcohol varieties can be a saving grace (on the go, airport, traveling, being lazy) I dont want to rely on them daily. I am very happy though that I continued to lose, and I really do know that a pound a week is PROGRESS and nothing to be upset about!

I am currently on vacation and will be back August 1. I so far have had a few off plan moments but not full meals, thankfully. A few miscellaneous bites: of my daughter's dessert, my brother in laws' calamari, my daughter's pasta. The worst situation I put myself in was I ordered a cheesesteak at the mall...it came with fries. I ate a quarter of the bread and some fries. IT HONESTLY WASN'T WORTH IT....I DID NOT LOVE IT!!! I love fries and cheesesteaks but this was a dumb move especially it being mall food. I walked the mile and a half back to my hotel to hopefully help to compensate.

Other off-plan moments: one glass of red wine on 7/26 (dinner with hest friend moving away), 7/27 (dinner with husband before my vacation with my daughter-her sweet 16 bday gift), and 7/28 (upon arriving our hotel and ordering room service). Ok...now I am done with this.

Now for my on plan moments on vacation. It really wasn't hard at all and there are plenty of choices. We are in Ft. Lauderdale and it is hot and humid, so salads are my savior. The day we arrived I had a shrimp caesar, then for dinner a plain caesar with pizza toppings, then yesterday a shrimp/avocado/arugula salad. I will keep that going and document what I ate for the remainder of this trip. BONUS-it is so beautiful and fun here that I have been getting a lot of walking in too! Over 4 miles total Monday and over 5 miles Sunday. Pedometer was not on me the entire time though.

Off to have breakfast with a view of the ocean, then to hang at the beach!

Finishing up vacation in Ft. Lauderdale....I ran out of Quest bars and food choices here (without a rental car) are very pricey. I've managed to eat on plan most of the time. Today is my last day here so I will try to do my best with $$and hotel/airport options since i will be here til late evening. I have done a ton of walking so feel good about that. Will do a weight check Friday or Saturday morning.

Came back from vacation late Thursday 8/1. I gained 3 lbs when i weighed on Friday and gained one pound more when I weighed on Saturday. I finished the week Sunday night on a loose induction (drank wine, sampled some off limits foods). I remained low carb Monday and today, but had about 30-35 grams of carbs each day . I am starting again with strict induction tomorrow and I'm prepared with all the necessary things to get me through the day safely!

For July I walked 82.5 miles that I measured on targeted walks only (I didn't keep a pedometer on all day). I am aiming to walk 4x a week for August as well. I love to walk outside and will continue to get out there until it is unbearably cold!

So I'm currently at 211, but I hope to bring it back down to 207 quickly. Whatever I weigh in at this coming Saturday, I will update my profile with. My goal remains at getting to 200 by Sept 22.
