Jeanyyy Again???

Okay, bowing to pressure and starting a journal here I'm sooo easy!

I'm currently on the VLCD part of my 3rd round of HCG. I started my first round in October 2012 at 227 and currently around 180 - so down about 47 lbs so far. I used the Omni hhcg drops the first round and Intermountain pellets for the second. I still have an unopened bottle of Omni in the fridge, as well as another unopened bottle of the pellets, in addition to the open one I'm currently using.

Why did I switch? Well, Intermountain is MUCH cheaper and seems to keep its potency longer and the pellets are just easier to manage, since they don't have to be refrigerated. That being said, the Omni drops worked great for me.

The most challenging aspect to the HCG diet for me is waiting the 15 minutes before and after taking the hhcg. It seems that I remember them only when I am suddenly starving and so, I have trouble waiting (and, I have to admit, sometimes I rush it). Other than that, it's boredom with the food choices.

I am a little bit rogue in that I do use heavy whipping cream in my 2-3 cups of coffee daily but I have managed to get that down to 1 Tbsp per cup at home. All bets are off when I have a Starbucks coffee, though...

I tried for the first 10 days on Round 1 and about 3 days on Round 2, to do without any cream at all, but I just couldn't do it. I felt spacey and "not all there" which I believe was due to the lack of any fat whatsoever... So, I experimented Seems to work for me, but of course, your mileage may vary. I also plan to experiment with the new liquid sugar free Coffeemate, as soon as I get down to Bellingham to buy some. I heard they have a "sweet Italian cream" flavour that might just do the trick for me, and it's about 15 calories per tablespoon.

Other rogue alterations: I am using Pam spray (this round). I also combine veggies and have some that are not in the original protocol, like zucchini, mushrooms, green beans and broccoli. I've even had a turnip (fried in a Pam-sprayed pan) or subbed for radish in a recipe if I was out of those.

I am a longtime low carber but on this plan, I do eat both fruits daily and usually at least one Grissini breadstick. I found some sea salt ones at Safeway that I love!! I also make sure I have the 1 Tbsp of milk daily (usually in my orange 'julius') due to something I saw on Youtube from an HCG "coach" that basically theorized that people who have no dairy at all, have much more trouble re-incorporating it when they get to the maintenance phase.

I have been very successful in maintenance so far, even losing a couple more lbs the first P3/P4 and I have never had to do a correction day (knock on wood).

I am planning on a 21-28 day round this time, then 3 weeks P3, 3-4 weeks P4, at which point I am going away for a few days to a blues festival. I will likely do another round at some point after I get back, but I haven't decided precisely when to start it yet.

So that is a little about my experience with HCG so far...

I have some of the International Delight sugar-free, dairy-free from when I was experimenting iwth Paleo. It's not too bad, I had a tbsp in my strawberry smoothie last night and it was great.

Thanks for sharing your experiences Invaluable!

Down 1.3 lbs today to 178.7 - right back to where I was on Monday. Gotta love the 2nd week on P2!!

I'm thinking of maybe running down to Bellingham on the weekend, doing a Trader Joe's and Grocery outlet run. I'm dying to try that liquid Coffeemate...

Ah, too bad it's the weekend since I'm working right thru - I would have loved to tag along and get caught up!!! I'm intending to go down next week (probably Tuesday)

Any advice, Jean, on how to cope with the hunger and lightheadedness? Did you experience this? I think that next round I will stick with LC and high fat for my loading days rather than things like pasta and ice cream. Although they are high fat, I'm guessing that if I go with LC and high fat I'll be getting a head start on ketosis and the appetite suppression that it brings? That's my thought anyway. What do you think?

Keep up the great work, Jean! When my guys here were wondering about this plan I was going on I used your success as a way to demonstrate that it works!!

178.2 this morning, so at least a little progress on Week 2. Hopefully when I have to get up earlier tomorrow, it doesn't disappear!

Made this tonight, a recipe I got from Facebook. It was really good! Of course, I had to modify it somewhat to suit our tastes.

I did 4 x 100 grams of chicken but only used 1 orange and 1 lemon total; I also only used 1 Tbsp of Bragg's total plus 1 Tbsp of apple cider vinegar, about 1/2 Tbsp of hot sauce and 1 Tbsp of zest. Next time I would brown the chicken a bit first; however the flavour was outstanding, even DH liked it! I put in 2 envelopes of Sweet n Low and 1 of vanilla Krisda instead of the pure stevia mentioned.

It took a while to cook down but then again, I didn't measure the water - just covered the orange and lemon halves. Next time I'll measure

HCG Sweet & Sour Chicken Recipe

100 Grams chicken breast
1/2 Orange w/ rind
1/2 lemon w/ rind
1 cup water
1 tablespoon Bragg’s liquid amino’s
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon minced onion
1 tablespoon lemon and/or orange zest
Dash of garlic powder
Dash of onion powder
1 tablespoon hot sauce
Cayenne pepper to taste
Salt and pepper to taste
Stevia to taste

In a frying pan or small saucepan place 1/2 orange and 1/2 lemon with the rind in water and boil until pulp comes out of the rind. Remove rinds from the water and scrape out the remaining pulp and juice with a spoon.
Add spices, onion and stevia to taste. Add chicken and cook until liquid is reduced by approximately half and desired consistency is achieved.
Add onion and garlic powders which act as slight thickening agent.
Serve hot and garnish with lemon or orange.

Makes 1 serving of Protein and 1 serving of fruit.
Phase 3 can add pineapple and bell peppers.

Notes: I did 4 x 100 grams of chicken but only used 1 orange and 1 lemon, I also only used 1 Tbsp of Bragg's. 1 Tbsp of apple cider vinegar, about 1/2 Tbsp of hot sauce and 1 Tbsp of zest.

Well, I did Fat Fast for 4 days and lost 3.4.. yesterday I ate P2 style until dinner, which was out. I had 1 glass of wine, 6 oz tenderloin, green beans, maybe 3 carrots, asparagus and 1 small piece of bread, maybe 1/2 oz, with a smear of butter. Then later on in the evening, I had a strawberry julius.

I got up today to another .7 lb loss. I'm at 172.5 today!

I'm still doing the Potato Hack, and finally losing. My PH days have gone like this:

Day 1 174.1 Morning weight, pre-PH
Day 2 173.6 -0.5
Day 3 173.9 +0.3
Day 4 174.8 +0.9
Day 5 173.7 -1.1
Day 6 172.4 -1.3 (back to LDW again)

So down 1.7 lbs overall in 5 full days after a rocky start (due to re-carbing?) and encouraged to continue a while longer, although I think I will have some eggs with my 2nd coffee this morning (sort of feeling the need for some protein).

Not sure Fat Fast is for me....
Has anyone had to start P3 with a steak day or other CD? I am not sure what to do; this is what has been happening:

I started doing a Fat Fast while on P2:

9/8/13 162.3 FF Day 1
9/9/13 162.6 FF Day 2
9/10/13 161.2 FF Day 3
9/11/13 160.5 FF Day 4
9/12/13 159.6 FF Day 5
9/13/13 159.5 P2 with only 1 fruit (strawberries), 1 melba; chicken/fish
9/14/13 159.0 P2 with only 1 fruit (strawberries), 1 melba; chicken/fish
9/15/13 159.2 P2 2 fruits (grapefruit/strawbs), 2 melba; protein powder/scallops
9/16/13 160.4 P2 2 fruits (apple/strawbs), 1 melba; chicken/chicken
9/17/13 160.7 P2 1 fruit (strawberries), 1 melba; eggs/ground beef
9/18/13 161.0 P2

So I've gone up 2 lbs in 4 days following Fat Fast. Technically, I guess, LDW is 160.4 since I took my last dose of pellets that morning. Tomorrow should, by the calendar, be my first day of P3. Do I start it with a CD? Or wait until the next day to see if my weight settles down? What would you do?

The last 2 days, I have followed TerriM's advice on the Fat Faster's thread and eliminated all starch (melba/Grissini) as per P3 guidelines AND all fruit. Other than that, I am slowly ramping up the calories (Wednesday, 736 calories; Thursday, 1206 calories) and drinking at least 26x3 = 78 oz of water. It's working, down 1.2 lbs in the 2 days! I'll try to continue with the no fruit especially, for a few more days and then introduce it slooowly...
