Just popping by to say hello to you, windygap.

Grandsons were excited this morning about singing in the Veterans Day assembly at their school. Sent them off wearing red, white, and blue, except noticed the 10 year old had changed into orange socks at some point.

Still sending all good thoughts your way, windygap. Wishing you a pleasant weekend.

Hugs!

Joni

Well Diary I am sitting here so tired from working in the yard yesterday. It was the first time I have did any thing in the yard since having eye surgery that it felt good to be doing all the stuff I usually do . Maybe that is a sign that the eye is healing up finally. I could tell every time I tried to lean over a little not too but other then that it felt good to be moveing around and getting back to normal. I am use to doing a 1/2 acker yard by my self mowing, rakeing leaves, deadheading all the flowers and putting every thing up for winter. I got the yard mowed, the leaves done the bushes trimed back, most flowers deadheaded and put up most of the stuff. They say snow is comeing Tue. so I am done enough if it does. I also put up all the travel suitcases in the top of the garage so I felt pretty good about all I got done. Hope to clean all windows and get the storm windows in the doors today. All the window ones are done because of all the rain we have been getting. It is so nice to have 3 sunny days even tho it is chilly. I like chilly it's a hole lot better then high 90's.

I love fall. The colors are so pretty and the smells are so different. When you walk in to a sit down rest. you smell apple, pumpkin, or ginger in the air for there desserts and breads. I think it just makes the rest. smell homey. I have all ready had pumpkin bread,Ginger bread, and pumpkin pie in the past couple of months thanks to JUDDD. I am trying to stay away now but know I can have a little if I behave on the holidays. I am not into rushing Christmas. To me Christmas does not start until after Thanksgiveing day. I don't rush from the table and go shopping on that day. I don't do the black Friday thing ever. I like to shop in Dec. and not have to stand in huge lines or get in huge traffic jams. I guess my age is telling on me. HEHEHE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanksgiving to me use to be as a kid going to grandma's farm house and having about 10 or 12 cars in the barn yard. You walked straight into the kitchen when you opened the door. There was a table faceing you long ways that would fit 30 people easy. All the adults set there. The kids set at a smaller table across the big living room. If you was 16 or older you might make it to the big table. I think I might have made it 3 times that I can remember. Dad and cousin Jimmy always hid a pecan pie under the table in one of the leaf holders so they would besure of getting some Pecan pie. What is so funny about that is every one saw them hide it so we all knew it. There was always Turkey and grandmas bread dressing. Then every women brought the rest. There was always Pumpkin, apple, pecan, chocolate, butterscotch, menzmea t,cherry, and some times lemon pies. a blackberry cobbler and cookies. We had every side dish known to man kind. I had to make all the little kids behave which was not easy most of the time. we filled our plates then set by the wood burning stove at the little kids table. They had the wood burning stove going in the kitchen also.

Every one would show up early to help cook or work on the tables. I usually went the day before and we pulled the big table out and put all the leaves for grandma. Then I would set the table up the night before or that morning while all was comeing in.

After all was fed and the dishes done in the old sink with the water pump and heated water on top of the stove we would all sit in about 4 different rooms because we usually could not go out side due to weather so the little ones headed to the bedroom or front living room while the adults were in the kitchen or the front room we ate in. Oh by the way grandma had 2 living rooms as you can tell. She was modern even back then. The front one had a old piano in it andwas a big sitting room and then they had the big living room that they lived in all the time that the potbelly stove was in. They also had 2 stair cases. One was in the living room. You walked up about 3 steps and then opened a door and walked up to the right a large flit of steps or you could go down the hall way out of the living room too the big stair case where you would find at least 1 cousin sneeking a slide down at any given time if no adults were around. That was the haunted stair case I WILL have to tell you about some time. After all was said and done we all left slowly out of the barn yard not really wanting to leave all in the house still. Oh by the way I never snuck a slide not once. If you believe that I have a bridge I can sell you. LOVE to all. Judy

Oh, Windy, I totally *love* the way you write. You paint such vivid pictures in my mind. I can almost smell the baking you describe and taste the wonderful Thanksgiving dinner food of your memories. How much fun it must have been to be able to gather for the day of giving thanks with such a large group of family members.

I'm very much like you in terms of finding the Christmas commercialism beginning so early in the year quite distasteful. Truth be told I find it a shame that such commercialism exists at all but I suppose it is just a reflection of the materialistic culture in which we live. It strikes me as extremely crass and takes away from the true beauty of the season. Of course, I grew up in a family which didn't even decorate the Christmas tree until Christmas eve; we'd go to the midnight service and then return home to eggnog and tree decorating, LOL. But that ritual truly made it all so wonderful and special. Where I live now, many people seem to put up and decorate their Christmas trees the day after Thanksgiving.

I'm so impressed by all the work you do around your large yard and especially impressed that you tackle the storm windows all by yourself. You are truly amazing.

Have a wonderful Sunday, dear Windy, and a happy week as well.

Thanks LolaGetz. I am twice divorced and live by my self so I have all the work to do but that is better then fighting the bottle with the last hubby. I had to do all the work any way so might as well do it single.

Love your story. Sounds like my kind of Christmas. It sounds so cozy. Well back to the windows. DD and only 170 cal. and 5 carbs so far. See you in the funny paper.

Windy that is an amazing Thanksgiving memory. I too would go to my Grandma's early as she was older and I was able to help to get things set for her. I have many many fond memories of her and I nibbling on the veggie tray as we were prepping it. One year I helped her make Beer Batter Shrimp and she even let me take her picture pretending she was gulping down the can of beer. She and I laughed at that for hours!!!!!!! I miss my Grandma very much! THanks for the reminder of those times!

Thinking of you girl!

Judy, your description is wonderful! You really should be a writer. Maybe you already are...I hope?

I'm glad your eyes are doing so much better. You really are amazing doing all that work by yourself. That takes a lot of energy and stamina.

Keep those stories coming! And yes, I do want to hear about the haunted staircase!!!

Hi all. Sorry I wrote a quick note yesterday and it did not get posted for some unknown reason. I was on the way to leaving for work and could not take the time to redo it. I love hearing your holiday storys. I could just see my grandma letting a can of beer in the house for any reason. It would have been funny. I am glad I help you all have good thoughts. No I am not a writer. Just a c average girl who can not spell good and has getting thoughts down hard some times.

I found my sisters story about grandpas birthday that she gave all our counsins at a family reunion so I will send it out to you later. About that haunted staircase that low carb gal wanted to hear about. Ok here goes.

Well Diary here is the true story of the front stair case. You know I told you about the 2 staircases. Well one night I was maybe 9 or 10 grandma sent me up to bed up the regular strait staircase in the front room where the potbelly stove was. That was the case that was used everyday. You might say it was the maids staircase in a larger house hold only the only maid was grandma and me.

Well I got ready for bed and hoped into the big feather bed. I snuggles all down in it and waited for grandma to come up. She had been behind me but had forgot to bed the fire down so she went back to the stove and told me to go on up. Well I kept wondering what was takeing so long. There was grandpas room at the top of the steps and I kept waiting for grandma to come up those steps and turn left into the 2nd bedroom. Finally after about 15 min. of waiting I heard grandma coming up the big staircase that was located out side the room I was in on the right side of the room. Ok here is one staircase in a door way to the left of my bed and a door way on the right of the foot of my bed that lead out to the big staircase. Ok now I think you got the picture I'll go on. 2 doorways at the foot of my bed and gramma is coming up the wrong one. Well I heard her come up to the top of the first landing and then stop. From there she should have stoped and cought her breath and then turned left and went on up about 10 steps to the top landing in the top hallway right beside the bedroom on the right where I was. Well don"t you know she did't. She stoped and just stood there for another 10 min. Or so I thought. For 10 min. I kept laying there scared to death wondering why she was on the first landing in the dark when all that was there was a small table with a little picture standing on a doillie on the table. She could have stoped to look at the picture but it was too dark and besides the picture wasn't that good looking any how or so I thought at that age. I was scared to death to say any thing. Some thing just kept telling me to keep quite. So 10 min. later grandma climbs the straight maids staircase up to the top and she turns to the left and walks in. At that point my hair is stand up on my head. I have goosebumps all over me because the other grandma is still standing out side the other door to my right. Grandma puts on the nightie and crawls into the feather bed and I go slideing to her body which is what happens if you way less then the other person in the bed. Oh I for got to tell you grandma was about 5 foot tall and pleasetly plump. Now you know where I get it from. HEHEHE!

Any how needless to say I did not sleep all night. I kept waiting for the other grandma to finish comeing up the stairs. I did not tell my grandma what I heard until it happened again about a year later. I ask why she came up the other stairs and why I did not hear her go back down. Here is what she told me.

Back in the early 1900's A bank robber was running away from the law and ran in the front door and up to the first landing. He stoped there and died from the gun shot to the chest he took that day. Till the day the house was took down you could hear that man hurry up the steps and stop on the first landing. I told my mom years later and she knew about the bankrobber but did not ever hear about the house being haunted from him. My aunt who is in her 90"s now has heard the story and has heard the ghost lots of times because she slept with some of her sisters in that same room. She says they never told mom about the ghost because she was the baby of the family and they did not want to scare her. I heard that ghost several times after that until I got too old to stays a grandmas house. Years later when they were in their 70's and real sick the aunts tried to hire a night nurse. That did not work because each one heard the ghost up stairs at night. They said they heard furniture moveing all around and heard the man going up the steps and demanded to know who was up stairs in the locked rooms. There was no one for years.

One nurse was so up set we had to get up in the middle of the night and dad had to drive her about 20 miles back home never to return again. Now you now the rest of the story. More later.

Oh by the way. Still no word on the problem. I am still maintaining between 148 on high days and 147 on low but I am going to start today trying to go down again. See you good people in the funny papers.

Thanks LolaGetz
How is your weekend going? I am going to have a great weekend knowing we only have to work 2 days next week. All of my schools go on vacation at the same time next week so that means a 2 day week. Yepeeeeeeeee!

Have been trying to loose on new numbers readjusted to my weight lost but not doing any thing so may go back to the old numbers. I thought since I had lost down to 147 maybe I need to readjust but maybe it is telling me wrong numbers? I also have been keeping the numbers in my head so I better start writeing them down again. I have been postanoteing some this week at work to keep track of eating but not putting it in my book like I was. So I am going back to old numbers and Journaling this week. Thanksgiveing hits on up day so that works out great.

Hope all is looseing great. I am doing ok just not looseing right now but that is ok as long as I am not gaining. Everyone have a great weekend. Me

Good idea to go back to tracking more carefully, Judy. If I didn't track every day, I'd certainly manage to eat more than I think I am. It really keeps me in line.

I agree with you that, this time of year if we can maintain, we're doing fine. Especially as we get nearer to goal.

Enjoy your weekend, dear, and look forward to only 2 days next week!

Happy thanks giving to all today.

Tbearynurse it is dieting every other day. If you go to the JUDDD site listed you will see in the sticky notes how to get started. My up days is 1612 cal. and Down Days are 322. You need to stay below the DD number and try to eat up to the up day number. You go on the alternative day diet site and find out what your numbers would be. Hope this helps you. If not let me know and I will try to answer all your qustions. I may be a little slow tho as I do not get on every day.

I woke up at 144 today by 1 oz. but I will take it. Of course I will eat today and have to work it off all next week. But I am looseing again Yeppppppppppp!

Love to every one. Oh I have a new kitty. 9 weeks old.

Hey there every one, It is the day after blackfriday and I did go shopping at the thrift stores and did not get run over by the crazy madness that goes on here on that day. I am up in weight from a up day and then a med day yesterday. I am doing a strict down day today to get back on tract. I want to see that 144 again so I have to behave from now on.

My cats (2) do not like the new kitty and are ready to hang me from the tree out front. I got her to play with the boy so he would let my 8 year old girl rest. She is getting old and is tired of being chased around the house when he wants to play. So far he is the maddest at me. My sister says give it time he will change. Lets hope so. I tried a boy cat about 2 years ago but that did not work. I had to take it back. So I am trying a kitten this time.

This is the only diet that I have ever been on where I have wanted to get back on right away after a holiday. I tried yesterday but we were out all day and it was really cold so we ate a hot supper to warm us up which threw me off but I could not wait to get back on today. I will let you know when I hit 144 again. That is 144 down from 166 which is 22 lbs. I am not trying to loose fast just get it off once and for all.

I got more bad news at work last Tue. can,t explain but things look really bad. I don,t understand how it could get worse with all of you and my family and friends praying but it has. Trying not to dwell on it threw the holiday week end or I wil go crazy. Love to all.

My new kittens name was stardust when I adopted her maybe I should rename her HOPE!

Thanks Carol I sure need it. Just when I thought it could not get worse it did very unexcepted. Now I have to go back tomorrow and face what ever is comeing. The only good thing was I went down to 144 Thur. morning. Of course Fri. I was back up but I do know it will drop again. At least this worring is good for something! I just read that you are not weighting in this month. That sounds great to me. If I don't watch the bounce I seem to do better because I don't know what is happening so I try harder. I think I will do that too!

Love to all Happy Holidays!

Dear Windy, sending positive thoughts and hugs your way. You are in my heart and prayers. I so hope things will work out ok for you. You are such a kind, sweet, hard-working person and deserve only the best.

Congrats on the weight loss. I ate too much turkey on TG but was good other than that so I hope I've not gained. Will weigh tomorrow; sometimes I really fear the scales.

Like you I would never go near the stores on Black Friday. I really dislike shopping most of the time anyway and am especially repulsed by the ugly displays of greed we sometimes see on Black Friday.

I'll be thinking about you and praying for you tomorrow, dearest. May all go well.
