Well, I have strayed off the path. I don't know why but with the advent of warm weather I want carbs, any carbs . Boredom might have something to do with it as I have been eating carrots and andean potatoes all winter long. I have not gone off the deep end ,but I have allowed myself a bread roll here , some fruit there. We have a loquat tree right in front of our house and I have just had the loveliest ricotta loquat dessert. The loquat season is ending ,I might get one more harvest until it is literally for the birds. I am not regretting the pause in proceedings but am wondering how easy it will be to get back on track. I am feeling hungry every day even before the straying so maybe that had something to do with it. I might try an egg and fat fast to get back into ketosis. Weight yesterday 81.4 kilos or 179.2 . I will check in when I start or fall off the wagon completely, the latter being highly unlikely.

Edit : just read up on loquat . At least it is an interesting fruit with rare "vitamin " B17 or amygdalin. At the moment it has been researched as a cancer fighting substance but who knows what else it might be good for. So carry on producing, noble loquat tree

It'stime for bell bottoms!
I arrived in the 70´s, speaking in kilo weight of course. 79.9 kilos not a great inroad but an inroad it is . To boot I am still eating wrong ,low carb but high low carb if you know what I mean.

Good Sunday morning ! Well, the seventies the incursion into the seventies continues 79.7 today which makes 175.5 lbs .
I said yesterday that I am eating at the high end of low carb but I will return to ketosis levels as I am sleeping very badly . I have rejigged all my supplements so this is the next logical step.
Sailing today, all day ! Bright and sunny and not too hot .Perfect for me.

Well, good evening. What goes down must go up ??? Actually I know exactly why I went up in weight, nothing dramatic just a pound and a half. We are having a payday crisis with only hi carb food in the house. The good news is that I don't even enjoy pasta dishes as much as I used to so it should not be too difficult to get back to normal the day after tomorrow. It does not seem to have derailed me. The weight gain is very likely water. We shall see. As I am on a hi carb trip I will have a pizza with all the trimmings tomorrow and then go staright on an egg and meat fast. For anyone thinking this is punishment far from it. It is what is readily available and tasty. The way our prices are skewed at the moment it is cheaper to be no carb than to be locarb.
So today's weigh in was 79.6 kilos . Let´s see what tomorrow brings .I feel bloated so I am expecting a gain.

Good Morning ! Thank you Monica you were so right . I went up to 81.8 kilos over night after a full carb day ,not excessive just like "normal " people eat ya know . putting this smiley too so that the irony is understood.
Today I weighed ,having returned to locarb yesterday and I am down to 78.8 or 173.5 lbs ,technically a new low . The pizza did not happen but I did have a big pasta dish. Tastewise it was not the big mmmmmm effect I thought it would be. It is all good

Hanging on to the wagon or going where noone has gone before

Well I am still around ,sort of low carb sort of hanging in there. My weight has stabilised at 79.5 kilos and while it fluctuates when I have more carbs one day that is what it goes back to.
Reason for the fluctuating low carb diet is fluctuating finances so I decided to make an art form of this and find out how messed up my metabolism is at the moment ,whether it has got better or stayed the same.
On average I eat anything between 20 and 150 carbs a day , including the baddies like wheat or sugar although the latter in small amounts. No prefabricated stuff in order to be in control of ingredients. So far so goos.
The reason for the title is that I am really testing the boundaries if one always needs to be low carb or if there is times when you can let go a little. Epi Paleo states that if you have retrained your body you might be able to get away with higher carb intake in summer time . We shall see. For now I am treading water. Another reason being that I have discovered a lot of loose skin so a standstill might be good for me at this point. We shall see.

A small NSv though to close this entry. I bought one of those elastic wide belts that are fashionable now and tried it on in the store without even checking the size. Today I did S/M !! Okay the first hole but S/M ....

So I am back. Since November I have eaten pretty much what I liked and teh results were pretty surprising. I had expected to lose control of my eating and go back to being hungry all the time but this was not the case. To give you an idea of the kind of thing I was eating on my "worst" day breakfast might have been 2 slices of cake or 2 pastries ( smaller than in US or Uk), lunch 2 hot pockets and dinner fried meat with bread. The surprising thing is that I am only up a pound in weight. So it seems to me that after one year of pretty consistent ketosis I have actually repaired something in my metabolism which is a good thing to know.

So why am I back for a second round ? Well,to lose more weight and also I feel better when in ketosis. It is hard to describe but I have more energy ,less brain fog and generally feel "cleaner"

So today I am starting again with 78.7 kilos or 173.3lbs
We are going to have 100F (38C) today and I need to go shopping so sustain this new start. Oh well..

So I weighed in today expecting just a little whooosh andwhoosh it did but in the wrong direction. 80.5 kilos. Up 2 pounds in other words . I hasten to add that I am not taking it as a gain ,that I know it is one of those things but would love to know what was one of those things that caused it .
Other than that not much to report. I made coconut milk but the desiccated coconut was not fresh enough so the yield was not that great .

Thank you greengeeny for stopping by and cheering me up.

Hi M ! Err, the wagon left without me again. I am putting it with humor but basically I allowed myself to stray with "good " reasons but no more . In fact just today I got basic again and have turned over a new leaf. I almost wrote strict instead of basic and strict I have never been in the sense of depriving myself. I am officially up to 179.5 lbs which is a huge gain and I really could not explain it until reading in another forum

What I read was this "Increased activity with weight gain and brain fog are signs of decreased energy at the cellular level because of dehydration." Holy Mole that exactly describes what has happened to me during the heatwave we are having. While my boss tucks into a "healthy" watermelon I want winter food, soups and stews and cakes. Basically I am retaining water as my body is spending it faster as I can and want to get it in. So far so good and one could think that it is one of those things that woll pass with the heatwave and no changes are necessary and that is why the above quote was so important for me. If that is happening again, especially the brain fog I am backsliding in my recovery and need to take action, more for my general health than just the weight loss. I am still of the opinion that obesity is an inflammatory disease that wreaks havoc on intercell signalling and ultimately brain functioning. That sounds good and one day I will be able to explain it coherently. Today is not that day . But in the words of Fox Moulder the truth is out there...

So what am I doing today? I bought cream and fatty ground meat and am basically dousing myself with a modified meat and fat fast. Modified as i am allowing locarb veg for their antiinflammatory properties ,eg onions for quercetin, cocoa for PQQ stuff like that. I also made paleo icecream which goes nicely with the weather . I am trying to easier on the eggs as tehy seem to have something to do with joint pains of teh unexplained type. Arachidonic acid overload probably.

Indeed we can !
Mage "bread just now as I found good liver pate. I made it out of coconut flour, sesame and almond mixed with an egg and some bicarb. Not bad ,it did the job without being too moreish.
Then I had coconut flour left ,so I mixed it with parmesan cheese and curcumin. That has potential for being a nacho replacement. More trials needed.

Way down

Way down where it feels so good
Way down where I hoped it would
Way down where I never could
Way down, down, way, way on down

Gooood morning,
80 kilos today or 176.2 lbs today ! Hope you recognised the Elvis lyrics up there. Well,of course it is all water and good that it is all water as my body is letting it go so it means to me that it is happy with its new/old environment.

Looking into resistant starch today. Not sure yet if at this stage of the journey they are good for me. RS is a starch that is turned into short-chain fatty acids by intestinal bacteria. It is definitely a good thing but wondering if I have the gut population to handle it . I wonder what the telltale is if I don't. Well, I have only just started to read .

I have already come across very interesting things . Have a read here . The widely held belief that processed food is bad for us has an interesting relation to resistant starches.
Now I do not mean stuffing yourself full of oats as they have the carbs we do not want as well , but nuts and seeds.
