Oops, I made a mistake. Yesterday was X-5.5lbs. Apparently I can't subtract! But I can add, and when the numbers didn't add up this morning, I figured it out.

Today, after my normal Up Day, I am at X-4. An average fluctuation, and a good start.

I finished off yesterday with a lunch of bratwurst, onion, and grated zucchini, sauted in lard. A snack of liverwurst and pickles. And dinner of pork chop, zucchini/tomato/pinenuts, glazed turnips, and fruit sorbet.

Got to bed on time, but had very restless dreams, so I feel a little groggy this morning. After I get Middlest to the train station, I'm going to watch a couple of episodes of 'The Walking Dead' and then the Season 5 preview. Yay for DVRs!

I love it! Which is kind of funny, since I really don't care for zombies. I usually close my eyes for those parts. But the human drama is fantastic. A zombie-loving friend turned me on to it, and I am so glad.

Feeling hungry this morning, but I am just letting myself feel it, and not stress about DOING something about it.

Was hungry when I went to bed last night, and hungry when I woke up.

So I am grilling myself a nice pork chop.

SUCH a good dinner.

Grass-fed beef pot roast.
Roasted beets*, onions*, carrots, cauliflower.
Zucchini* 'pasta' salad.
Thai cucumber* salad.
One square of Swiss chocolate, that a friend brought back from her travels.

Now I am going to veg on the sofa. The bed construction this morning almost undid me. And we're not done yet!

Okay, here was the thing with yesterday. I did not get to eat all the foods I planned. I even stretched it a bit, and had a banana-raspberry dessert when I wasn't hungry, just because I wanted to taste it.

But no bacon and veg, no green smoothie.

Foiled by ketosis!

I ate my breakfast at 6:30, and didn't have lunch until 2:00. And I wasn't even hungry then, I just had to get in my food sometime! Ridiculous.

Of course, it may be completely different on Thursday. But I had to vent.

My plans for today are water. Maybe a cup of broth this evening.

After my Up Day I am at X-5.5.

So far we have just been eating it as it comes up. We only have two beds. If anything gets ahead of me, we will be drying, freezing, pickling, or canning. We plan to expand, so hopefully we will get to where we can save some of our harvest for winter months. Just this year, it looks like we will have abundant butternut squash, which can just be stored under the bed, so no worries with that.

We also have very lush sweet potato plants, which we hope are producing plenty of tubers for us. Sweet potatoes are one of our new favorites, and it would be great not to have to pay 99cents per pound. Ouch.

One of the things we are doing, is tracking how much we are harvesting. At the end of the season I am going to tally it up with average produce prices, and see how much we saved. With luck, this first year's harvest will cover the cost of the beds(lumber, some mulch, etc) and subsequent years will be gravy(so to speak).

Besides saving on groceries, we like the side-along ideas of sustaining ourselves with what we grow, and knowing exactly what goes into it.

We are also going to put up hoops as the weather gets cooler, to extend the season, and even get a bit of a head start next year.

A good Down Day yesterday.

I was working on constructing Littlest's bed frame, and it was causing me some anxiety. I was wondering what I had gotten myself into, and if I could figure out how to fix the challenges. My emotions kept telling me to stop and eat.

But I didn't.

Weight this morning: X-10.0.

Oh, and hey! I just realized after seeing the post appear, that I have fulfilled the meaning of the quote in my signature.

That bed wasn't a danger, but it WAS a challenge, and I faced it! Maybe a little fear involved, but I didn't let it stop me, OR make me eat.

I feel doubly pleased.

X - 10 is great! Coming off as fast as it has, it could only have been, in large part, water weight. Not that that makes it any less annoying, or make the pants any less snug. But still, comforting.

Congratulations on facing the dastardly bed frame! You won!

I only COUNT my post-Up Day weights as my true weight, so I consider it 5 1/2 ponds. Which is fantastic. But it IS nice to see the ten pounds I will be creeping up on, soon enough.

The zucchini plants went a little crazy this week, so I am planning a zucchini centric menu for tomorrow. Zucchini at every meal and in every variation I can think of. Plus, I am going to grate some, and freeze it in small batches for future meals. Besides z- muffins and bread, I discovered how good shredded zucchini is as a 'filler' to bulk up fried ground meats.

This afternoon I am meeting with friends for some sewing. We are doing a jelly roll race. A jelly roll is a planned collection(usually all of a fabric line) of 40- 2 1/2" X 42" fabric strips. For the race, you sew all of the strips together, end to end, to make one long strip. 18" is cut off of one end, and then the ends are matched and you sew the strip together along the long edge, to make a strip half as long and twice as wide. You repeat that 5 times, and voila, you have a lap size quilt top, approx 64" x 48". Put on two borders, and an applique if you like, and you are done.

If you google jelly roll race there are a lot of good images. One of our friends made a shower curtain for her guest bedroom in this style, and we all went wild for the idea. So, now we are doing it together. (One gal couldn't wait, and has already done THREE on her own!)

Bulking up meat with shredded zucc is a great idea. Barely tell it is in there.

One of my kids favorite meals is Lasagna made with zucc and spinach! We all LAP it up!

Thanks, Bigmama. I had a good start with my sewing evening. I completed my jelly roll race in 3hrs 5min. It looks great. This weekend I will choose the fabric for the borders, and the applique(I am going to applique something-probably and owl- on it, in silhouette).

I went with my plan B for eating, last night. If I had been home, I would have continued my water fast. But I brought some pork liver pate along, in case I felt I 'needed' it. I sewed through dinner time, while everyone took their dinner break, because I wanted to finish the jelly roll race in one go. After, I felt observed, so though it was easy to decline the pizza earlier, I decided to eat my pate so that my friends would see me eating. Not the best of reasons, but I brought long an acceptable item, so I am pleased with how it went.

I was able to decline the dessert, brownies and berries, with no difficulty.

So tired when I got home, I basically fell into bed, after saying hello and goodbye to Middlest's friends, who were over playing Singstar, and helping the girls eat up the birthday cake.

Today, there will be much zucchini eaten(among other things)!

We have our new little pup. Her name is Sophie, but we will probably change it. With a Salem in the family, we want to avoid another 'S' sound. She seems to be merging into the tribe pretty well. we had a good time yesterday, getting to know her. Now our family is complete, for a few years.(We are thinking of adopting/fostering a senior dog someday.) Four little black dachshunds/dachs-mixes!

I ate so much zucchini yesterday. Today I am shredding most of the leftover ones. Tomorrow, I'll be picking more. That's how it goes with zucchini!

Looking forward to my Down Day today.
