Grrr.

I was tempted yesterday by the corned beef hash I made for Honey and Littlest. Resisted taking even one bite by telling myself I could have the leftovers in the morning.

Went to bed thinking about the hash.

Woke up (due to a dachshund disturbance) at 12:30, and even had a fleeting thought that I could get up THEN and eat the hash. (Didn't.)

Got up at my normal time, had my digestive chews, and set about heating up the hash...

...only to realize that I had fried it up for Honey and Littlest using BUTTER, and since I am avoiding dairy to avoid the agony that follows...I better not risk it.

Great sadness.

Oh no! That is a bummer. But you are so strong to resist. You may have some of the strongest willpower and resistance of anyone I "know".

What DIDN'T I have?!? Yesterday turned into a munching day. But for breakfast I had a roast beef, tomato, avocado sandwich on gluten-free bread. Yum, yum, yum!

I enjoyed everything I ate, but it was too many carbs: bread, sweet potato, rice, fruit!!

I'm feeling the 'crash today, but I will work through it. I have some liverwurst in reserve, if I need to nibble. So far, just water.

I am finding it much easier to resist' the things which are going to have an immediate (well, 6 hours) impact on me. That's the kind of cause and effect that even my brain can get behind. All I have to do is remember crying on the toilet, and suddenly, the food just doesn't look that appealing any more.

This morning I threw a rotisserie chicken carcass into our small crockpot, with an onion, a carrot, a stalk of celery, a bay leaf, and plenty of water.

Just had a cup of the broth, lightly salted. Delicious! I usually cook my broth for at least a day, but this was just right for a mid-afternoon treat. Golden, and savory.

It always feels good to have a successful Down Day under your belt. I stuck with water and broth, and my cravings were gone by evening, when i made French toast for Littlest without feeling like I wanted any.

My plan today is to have real meals, no grazing. I'm starting off with pork sausage and cauliflower with carrots. With a small coconut-vanilla chia pudding for dessert.

The meals plan is going well, in spite of an avocado disappointment. No worries: I substituted liverwurst!

Still too many carbs. I need to find a way to deal with my disappointment over dairy and eggs, in some way that does not involve sweets. I have made a list of new vegetable dishes to try. (I was amazed at how many of my favorites had dairy of some kind.) Heading out to the market to get ingredients this morning. At least, if I have some good things on hand, it will be easier to eat those, and not sugar, sugar, sugar!

I know it's such a disappointment to have to make these adjustments. We really get connected to our favorite foods, almost emotionally. But it's great you've found some new recipes and you'll have fun trying them all out and I'll bet soon you'll have some new favorites!

It's all learned behaviors! I mean, Carol is right. We associate our favorite foods with the emotional connections. I think you will have new connections, just try 1 new thing anytime you have a FEEL good day going on.

I went a little crazy at the grocery. My fridge is now so full of vegetables that it is a 3-D tetris challenge, every time we want to get something out.

The ratatouille was marvelous. As was the Chimichurri. Last night I did Ppinach-stuffed Mushrooms from Nourishing Traditions. Definitely not as good as with cheese, but eatable. Middlest scarfed down as many as I did, and she's a real cheese fiend. I also made Potatoes Anna, which didn't turn out. I need to make it again, to get the temperature setting right.

On the list for today: Zoodle Caprese Salad, Curried Cauliflower, and Grilled Butternut and Pineapple.

I know it is just a matter of getting used to it. But I am like the classic impatient person: Lord, please grant me patience, NOW!

Also, I am very lazy. It is too easy to grab some non-optimal food, rather than wash, chop, cook, clean-up. I am generating a BOATLOAD of dishes!

But, this morning I threw together some tomato-cucumber salad to have available for noshing, and prepped the cauliflower for tonight, incorporating that into my morning dishes. So, the kitchen doesn't look too scary.

Thanks for your support, and encouragement, Ladies. I appreciate it.

It all sounds delicious! New recipes are fun, but time-consuming. My experience has been that a recipe always seems more complicated the first time (or two) I make it because it's unfamiliar. But then I develop a routine and it seems easy.

And I totally understand wanting it all NOW. I am the world's least patient person. Sigh.

One of the kids is having a very hard time with something. And I am having a very hard time trying to figure out how to help them. Feeling very anxious. Very, very anxious. I think I will probably be getting a lot of cleaning done today, from nervous energy.

Burned my apple-blackberry cobbler yesterday. I am going to make apple-rhubarb tomorrow, to make up for it. Today is a Down Day.

Yay, I made it through a true Down Day! Feels good. Sipping on kombucha helped, and tasted wonderful. I am especially proud/relieved/amazed, because it was NOT an easy day emotionally. Big fight with Honey. We don't fight a lot, but naturally, it is upsetting when we do. And it takes a while for feelings to settle down.

Now, to eat normally today, and then repeat! I'm going to start my day with a MEAL, for a good foundation. A fried potato, kale, a slice of butternut, and leftover steak.

Thank you for your encouragement. Zipp, pastry crumbs dusted off!!! LoCarbGal, your comment really stirred something up for me. I do not feel like I am a controlled person. It amazes me to think others see me that way. Then, I took a look back. Look what I have done this past year. I DO have control. Not the ideal that I think I SHOULD have, but who am I, expecting to be perfect? I need to get over myself, and accept the strengths I do have, in the level I have, and USE them. Thanks.

Sorry about the fight. DH and I rarely fight and when we do, I become a total mess! I completely understand. Way to hold to the DD even with that.

I think we are all stronger than we give ourselves credit for! Keep up the great work girl!

Sorry it was a rough day yesterday, but way to rock that DD! Fighting is the worst, especially when you don't do it often. I'm always amazed at people that fighting is just a natural, daily occurrence. That would make me nuts.

Normal kind of food yesterday. I really like it when I enjoy my food on Up Days, without going crazy about it or over-eating. I was meeting some people at a McDonald's for a dinner meeting. I ate a burger and fries, slowly, and enjoyed it, and felt no need to get a dessert. Or a Filet-O-Fish(man, I used to love those)!

Planning on water and some kombucha today.

This Down Day almost done. I am a little hungry, but determined not to eat. I can eat breakfast in the morning. And there, that will be a Monday done, and my third planned Down Day, back on track.

Honey and I are on alternate schedules this week. I made the family dinner, and sat at the table with them while they ate, but tomorrow, I think it will be just Littlest and myself. Honey finds it difficult to have people eat when he cannot.
