Haha! I'll be 50 this year. A long way from a high-schooler! But I guess I can dream.

Keeping up the daily weigh-in

166.0 1/1/14
163.0 1/2
165.5 1/3
162.0 1/4
165.0 1/5
163.0 1/6
168.0 1/7
162.0 1/8
162.0 1/9
161.0 1/10
164.0 1/11
161.5 1/12
166.0 1/13
164.0 1/14
168.5 1/15
168.0 1/16
165.5 1/17
161.0 1/18
161.5 1/19
159.5 1/20
158.5 1/21

It is satisfying, to have the number data stack up. Another reduction after an Up Day. Maybe it is the fish, maybe it is the Virgin regime, maybe it is the minimal choices. But I certainly ate hearty yesterday:

Breakfast: 8oz tilapia fried in ghee
Lunch: 10oz tilapia fried in ghee, 5 mushrooms
Snack: 8oz tilapia fried in ghee
Dinner: 12oz tilapia fried in ghee, 6 mushrooms, 1 artichoke
Bedtime Snack: 1 C blueberries

Wow, that's over 200g of protein. More than I usually get, I think. And I think I had about 5 tablespoons of ghee all together. But not very much vegetation this time. Only 5 servings. Maybe I'll do a generous salad on Wednesday.

After an increase in pains after having pork/cucumber/bananas, I decided to try having my fruit separately, in case it was too many carbs at once. Sometime soon I will have pork by itself, the bananas by themselves, and cucumbers on their own, and see what the comparison is.

I am prepared with a cozy hoodie to wear indoors today, if I get Down Day Chills.

A piece of a post by Yam-Yam

"Found this back in the older threads, and want to have it here for reference:

I was just reading about the body's rebellious "Weight Rebound Reaction." And, it's very interesting.

"When a body has lost a good number of pounds through effective dieting, several reactions conspire to put the weight back on." (or to stop losing for a while).

Here are 3:

1. Increase in appetite: "triggering hunger pangs to encourage you to eat more."

2. Reduction in energy consumption: "...if you earn less money, you spend less money. Biological organisms react in a similar way. This is why many people complain about feeling cold during weight loss diets; your body is using less energy to keep you warm." Tiredness can be another way of your body reducing energy consumption because if you move less, you burn less calories and fat.

3. Maximum extraction of calories consumned: "Finally, the body's third reaction is the most efficient and the most dangerous one, whether you are trying to lose weight or are stabilizing, as it consists in assimilating the calories from your food more efficiently. An individual who ordinarily extracts 100 calories from a slice of bread might end up assimilating 120 to 130 calories from the same size slice after dieting. Each morsel is sifted through, and everything possible is absorbed. This increase in calorie extraction takes place in the small intestine."

Interesting stuff, huh?? And this is all because of our body's biological proclivity to store fat in case of a coming famine. IF helps thwart this with the re-feed on UDs. However, our stubborn bodies will try every trick in the book to stall or dissuade us from losing any further.

It goes on to basically talk about how, each time we lose a chunk of weight (amount varies I guess) the body needs about 5 days per pound lost to accept and get used to the idea of the loss. This explains the "resting" period Beeb and Sophiecat and others have mentioned. We could probably also call those "set points" as some have talked about.
"

My commentary: So, if it takes one week to go down a pound, and 5 days to accept that you've gone down a pound, the maximum 'easy' weight to lose in a year would be about 30 pounds.

Interesting.

That was interesting, Sirtain! I am usually cold on my DD's, but I haven't been today. I have, however, been hungrier than usual! Been keeping it under control, but my tummy is just growling.

Was musing in the tub. We might have dinner guests on Friday, so I was planning menus around what could easily be added to something I can eat. That meant figuring out what I was having tomorrow, so I could keep my rotations in order.

So...

Wednesday:
turkey
zucchini
avocado and avocado oil or walnut oil if the store is out of avocado oil
apples/pears

Friday:
kangaroo during the day/steak for dinner
sweet potatoes + russets with all the trimmings for the guests and family
broccoli
strawberries

In addition, I will make a pan of brownies on Thursday, send half of them to school with Littlest on Friday morning, and keep just a plateful for the dessert. I know I can stay away from brownies, since they are loaded with wheat, sugar, and eggs. If I made something healthier, I would be tempted to 'work it into my plan' somehow, and we all know what that leads to!

I like it. It looks like a good plan.

Today is the seventh day of the Virgin elimination plan. It is supposed to go 21 days. Day nineteen falls on Super Bowl Sunday! Still trying to decide my strategy. With some effort, I could still conform, but do I want to? If I even added in dairy for that day, my options would be radically expanded.

Decisions, decisions!

Mercy!

I went down a pound after my Up Day last time so I was prepared to go down JUST A LITTLE, or even stay the same or go up a bit after yesterday's Down Day. Especially since I wasn't feeling cold at all, and I had some late night food. Not much calorie-wise, maybe 100K, but still, late at night.

Instead, whoosh- down 3 pounds!

Now, this is after a Down Day, which I do not count as a true weight. But...

155.5!

That's the lowest I remember EVER being as an adult. I can vaguely recall getting down to 157 When I was 20. And, boy, was I strutting it! (Of course, everything was a lot higher and firmer then.)

And if I am touching it after Down Days, soon I will be seeing it after Up Days.

Much rejoicing!

And maybe a little squealing.

Up a comfortable 2 pounds after my Up Day. I like it. Going down after an Up Day is always a thrilling surprise, but I confess, it makes me a little uncomfortable, too. It doesn't feel 'real' and makes me worry that I am 'losing too fast'.

Being at 157.5, means I can change my current weight in the stats to 162, since I have been at or below it for three Up Days in a row. I'm hoping that by the end of the month, I'll be changing it to a 150s number. Now, THAT is thrilling!

We aren't having the guests on Friday after all, but I think I will keep the menu plan(except for the brownies).

My grocery bill has gone up a little this past week. Since I am eating so few ingredients, I am making sure I have ENOUGH of each of them. "No artificial shortages!"(Three points if you can identify the source of the quotes. Plus, I will know we are soul mates.) So, I am buying LOTS of protein(and eating it) and generating some leftovers which I can't eat. TWO avocados sit on my counter now. I think I will make guacamole for Honey and Littlest to have with their steaks tomorrow. And I will hope that the zucchini hold for 4 or 6 days in the fridge.

As for the turkey, well, I ate that all up!

Frozen spinach and plantains?!? Wghat?(That was originally a typo, but I left it, since it expresses my astonished disgust perfectly!)

Brownies should have butter, chocolate, flour, sugar, eggs. That's it. Okay, maybe nuts and brown sugar.

And if you are being low-carb, butter, chocolate, eggs.

But NO SPINACH!

Heehee. Let me know if they are good.

Here's the numbers for the day. I know it takes up a lot of space to copy the whole month, but it annoys me to have to go hunting up previous weights. I thought the 155.5 might be a fluke, but apparently not.

166.0 1/1/14
163.0 1/2
165.5 1/3
162.0 1/4
165.0 1/5
163.0 1/6
168.0 1/7
162.0 1/8
162.0 1/9
161.0 1/10
164.0 1/11
161.5 1/12
166.0 1/13
164.0 1/14
168.5 1/15
168.0 1/16
165.5 1/17
161.0 1/18
161.5 1/19
159.5 1/20
158.5 1/21
155.5 1/22
157.5 1/23
155.0 1/24

I am reading a book titled, 'The Power of Habit'. It is EXCELLENT! Quite a bit in it that is applicable to dieting, and also why JUDDD may have some of the side benefits it does. When I finish the book I will start a thread about it with a review. I think a lot of us could get some good stuff from it.

WTG, Sirtain! You're doing wonderfully!

The brownies have all of that too (butter, chocolate)! I'm not sure what the spinach does besides add green nutrients. The plantains provide starch (instead of flour). I'll let you know how they turn out when I get around to making them.

Feeling very good about my numbers. That 155.5 that seemed so amazing has been followed by two 155.0s, so I'm getting used to it.

I like when I get the same number for a couple-few post-Up or Down Days in a row. It makes me feel like it is real. Not the same thrill as those sharp downwards spikes bring, but a deep satisfaction. Perhaps like the difference between being 'in love' and loving someone as an action, and not something that happens to you. There's effort involved, and maybe not the same reliance on the giddiness of emotion, but it brings a depth of contentment and surety.

Well, THAT'S pretty philosophical, for a diet journal!

Littlest made herself a Liquid Apple Pie dessert last night(her own invention) and almost drove me out of my mind with the good smell.

Other than that, an easy water-only Down Day. Today I am looking forward to pork, carrots and parsnips, and pinenuts, and a fruit yet to be determined. Need to see what looks good at the store.

A long post - talking things out

First, my weights. I am starting to enjoy posting them up here. For the first time, I understand the appeal of the Daily Numbers Thread. Will I be able to stop after January?

And thanks, Hopefulsweigh and Handbells. It is great to come here and find people cheering you on.

155.0 1/26
155.0 1/27

I'm starting to get excited about how this month will finish out. On the weekly weigh-in, I have already marked my 'month end' weight, as Saturday and Sunday will be in February. But the 31st will be after an Up Day, so I'll get another, personal 'month's end'.

Also a little apprehensive about the beginning of February. A couple things will be happening.

First, the Super Bowl. I have decided not to go crazy with variety on that day, stick to my elimination/rotation plan, and just enjoy quantity, the pleasure of someone else preparing and bring (and cleaning up) the food, and bring one reasonable(again, no restriction on quantity-I'll probably eat plenty of them) treat from home.

But we all know how plans go. There is always the possibility that I will let habit and temptation win the day.

Second, the end of the eliminations, and the beginning of reintroduction. I wonder about two things. Will I have some incredible bloat from something I am sensitive to, when I reintroduce that? That is a manageable kind of fear. I would be sorry to suddenly rocket up by eight pounds after eating an egg, but it would be information, and I would know that the weight will come off again after I took out the eggs, and ate clean for a bit. Annoying (Please, let eggs be okay! And dairy! Those are the two biggies for me!) but manageable.

And, once I start reintroducing things, will I just go crazy? Will it be hard to stop with two eggs that first day? Or will I begin gobbling? And not be able to wait the four days before I try again? And four days after that before I try some dairy?

I have learned a lot of patience and restraint with JUDDD, so I am not BADLY worried about this. I THINK I will do fine. But there is still a niggling worry. That's only human.

And talking out both these fears will help me in another way, I'm guessing. I'm being honest about it, thinking about it, considering options. Planning.

I know when some people hear about fasting for weight control, they FREAK OUT. 'You're depriving yourself, bad, starvation, anorexia, eating disorder, binge!' And I know that there are disorders/situations where even a little fasting can lead to them.

But I'm a normal Joe/Jane. For me, fasting in controlled amounts has taught me so much. Before, I would IMAGINE that six hours without food would leave me shaky(and, in high-carb days, it might have. Can you say 'give me sugar!'?) But now, I KNOW what hunger is, and that it won't kill me. And I also know, through experience, that six hours is not enough for hunger, only mind games, from my insulin-levels, my stomach, my brain. They all get in on the act.

But that's okay. I can watch their games now, and smile. And wait until tomorrow to eat. Maybe once in a while, I'll give in, get down on the floor, and romp with them THAT SECOND. But only once in a while. I've got business to take care of, getting my body back to fantastic health.

I will use these skills to keep on track during our Super Bowl festivities. And to reintroduce food in a calm fashion. And if I slip, I will get right back to it.

Then, I can start planning for Valentine's Day!

First of all, I have to know what liquid apple pie dessert is! Share please?

Second, I doubt if you'll start gobbling when you reintroduce. For one thing, if any given food is an irritant, eating more of it will only cause you more discomfort....NOT WORTH IT! You're so disciplined, I have every faith in you. I wish I could be more like you!

I'm sure the idea of bloating up after a sensitive food is scary, but like you said, it's information, and will only help you in the long run. I can't wait to hear your results.

It was fried apples, with a little extra sauce. I guess having no crust is what made it 'liquid'. Man, am I glad she ate it all up. The smell was amazing!

Just found out I am going to be taking a flight in March. In one of the threads, I remarked that the next time I flew, I was going to wear a catsuit/unitard, with a caftan over it. For the security screening, I would just whip off the caftan and pose!

Mostly in fun, but now I am faced with the possibility of DOING it.

Gulp.

I challenge myself to go to a dancewear shop in the next few weeks and try on a unitard!

Woohoo!

It is after a Down Day, but I have touched my first goal:154! Very exciting.

Now of course, I am wondering how long it will be before I am touching it after Up Days!

Planning a fish day today. Some smoked salmon for breakfast, fried salmon and/or tilapia for lunch, and we are going to attempt eating out for dinner at our favorite sushi place. The family is under instructions to let me have ONLY fish and rice. No extras, with mystery ingredients!

I have collard greens for my vegetable, and I am trying bananas again, only I am going to limit myself to two, one early in the morning, one late at night, not with any other foods.

Almost to the end of the month! I'm feeling very good about my numbers. Even starting to feel good about the elimination and rotation routines. Sometimes they are tedious or hard, but overall, I have found a rhythm to it, and I am getting through them okay.

Also, I had a sashimi feast last night, and that makes everything seem possible again. Although it was different, sticking to only the PLAIN items. Nothing mixed or with sauce. So, fish, fish, more fish, some shellfish, fish, and rice.

I stuck to my plan otherwise, especially with the bananas. No difficulties, like last time, so I think it was not the bananas per se, but rather two at a time, or having them WITH other things. I will proceed cautiously, but while enjoying bananas once in a while.

My trip will be for a girls' weekend with my sister, whom I have not seen in two+ years, and high-school friends, for whom it has been more like 5+ years. It will be a big splurge for me, but sometimes you just have to do it! There are preparations to be made, though! I'll need a new bathing suit, and maybe a haircut. My hair is in a very funky stage right now. We'll see how it looks at the end of next month.

Made it through the month

I stuck to my rotations really well this month, and feel like I am on a good start for the year. My SIRT1s are definitely activated!

154.0 1/28
156.5 1/29
154.0 1/30
156.5 1/31

And, of course, I am pleased that my weight is down 9 1/2 pounds. I'll be getting to my goal soon.

This morning I realized I have started hitching my jeans again. My size 12 jeans! Once it is driving me crazy, I'll be going down to 10s. Tens! Can you believe it?!?

This weekend will be a little bit of a challenge, with my planned splurge on Sunday for the Super Bowl. It will be an additional Up Day to the schedule. I am just going to swing right back into a normal Down Day after it. Maybe I will try for a little extra water.

Another challenge is that I will be making liver and onions for dinner on Saturday. I am not a big liver fan (except for liverwurst!) but I am getting more organ meats into our lives. Last time it was sweetbreads. Which Honey and I really enjoyed, and Littlest said, 'weren't TOO bad'.

Brains are next on the list.

Thank you, Marika. I'm feeling good. Sort of excited to be staring maintenance in the face.
