Thanks, Handbells and LoCarbGal. I am really liking it.

At home I weigh daily, and track the numbers on a graph. But here on the forum I mostly post occasional updates in my journal, and weekly ones on the weekly thread.

But for the month of January, I want to keep track of my daily numbers, maybe not on a daily basis, but the whole month of numbers up here, for an extra level of accountability.

So, here are the first three days:

166.0 1/1/14
163.0 1/2
165.5 1/3

In other musings - online craft videos! Wow, there are so many things to learn. And then, want to try! My newspaper basket weaving is going full guns. I am almost done weaving the wastebasket for my bedroom. Then, I will paint it white, and put it to use. And start rolling tubes for the next basket I want to make, to fit under a bench in my livingroom.

And last night, I saw a video on using a potholder loom(the ones that use those loops) and yarn to make squares. For potholders, or what have you. Well, I need some new potholders, and I have PLENTY of wool yarn. Might give that a whirl this weekend.

I can see how it would be easy to go crazy, trying fun new things.

Eldest is heading back to college this afternoon. It has been a great visit, having all of the kids here. We still have Middlest for another week, then it will be back to the quiet life.

Sirtain...would you mind posting the link for the newspaper basket weaving. It sounds so intriguing!!!

I love to try new things, especially with crafts.

This year I am trying to knit and sew more!

I don't think I can post the link, as it was on youtube, and since they are a commercial outlet, I think that's against the forum rules. But if you enter in a search for 'newspaper basket weaving' it will come right up!

I had a group of friends over yesterday, and they were all marvelling at how much like wicker my trial basket looked. And for the modest investment of newspaper, glue, and acrylic paint, you really can't beat it. Most people who do crafts have plenty of all those things.

Weight update:
166.0 1/1/14
163.0 1/2
165.5 1/3
162.0 1/4

And I did my exercise this morning!

Having a movie date with Honey today. We are going to see '47 Ronin' and then go out to lunch. I have a couple of chores on my to do list, but I think I might skip them and have a complete relaxation day.

Got some compliments from my friends last night, and was able to respond with a simple, 'thanks, I've been working at it.' It felt good. I was in my size 12 jeans and a fitted blouse.

Well, that body wrap I had was enjoyable, but I did not notice any detox effects. I think I will stick with massages for my pampering sessions. More bang for your buck.

This morning I weighed 12 pounds less than Honey(he's been slacking a little on his Down Days). I wonder when my body perception will catch up with the reality. I am now LIGHTER than he is, but I don't feel smaller than him. Now, part of that is because he is mostly muscle, and I am mostly fluff, but still, I WEIGH LESS THAN HE DOES! Bring on the 'delicate blossom' feeling!

Good for you for exercising! I still need to add that in.

Enjoy your movie with DH. Sounds like fun!

I love your delicate blossom comment! What a wonderful feeling!

Last time I had lost a bunch of weight and was with a new guy, he told me how delicate I was, and I truly almost laughed in his face. Caught myself though! It is strange how we don't see ourselves accurately. Take a good look though - you ARE delicate!

Yesterday's Down Day kicked my butt.

I think it is a combination of my period about to happen, and not the best choices on my Up Days, leaving me with sugar cravings.

So, today I will try to eat plenty of GOOD stuff.

Good fats, lots of protein, many vegetables.

And hope that my period STARTS! It is late in coming, so what is usually a day of cravings is s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g out.

Weight still good. 163.0 this morning. Shoot! Just realized I forgot my exercise. Grrr. Oh, well. Yesterday wasn't much of a Down Day, so I wouldn't have been exercising fasted.

Better next time.

The good stuff worked. I had an easy Down Day yesterday. Ate my fish and my salad, not much hunger, no cravings at all. So I am pleased about that. Still no period, though, so my cravings were probably all from blood sugar swings.

Here's my daily weight update:
166.0 1/1/14
163.0 1/2
165.5 1/3
162.0 1/4
165.0 1/5
163.0 1/6
168.0 1/7
162.0 1/8

Everything as it should be. Now I am going to do my aerobic exercise before I forget. I have a doctor's appointment this morning, which I have to go fasted for, so even though it is an Up Day, I won't be eating until noon or later.

Very pleased with remembering to do my exercise yesterday morning. AND I went to the gym with Honey, for some walking. AND I walked to the post office and grocery this morning!

What is going on with me?!?

The doctor's visit went fine. Not much was resolved, but the receptionist noticed I weighed less, and was appropriately gushy, which felt nice.

Then for dinner last night I had an amazing steak, sent to us by my mother-in-law for Christmas. So tender, so flavorful. I was one happy camper!

The potatoes (a recipe off the internet) was less amazing. But potatoes, hey, they are good even when they are bad.

Tonight I am having green salad with turkey for my Down Day dinner. Then tomorrow I am going to eat sashimi. MUCH SASHIMI!

More numbers

166.0 1/1/14
163.0 1/2
165.5 1/3
162.0 1/4
165.0 1/5
163.0 1/6
168.0 1/7
162.0 1/8
162.0 1/9
161.0 1/10

Always such a surprise when the weight does not go down after an Up Day. I stayed the same, so I was wondering if after the next Down Day I might be up or the same, but, nope, I went down another pound. Yay for that time of the month(I always have a sudden rush downward just before my period starts).

AND, I did my exercise this morning! Woohoo! Feeling proud of myself.

I meant to exercise early, and then have a good breakfast before I went out later in the day for my sashimi lunch. Instead, I got caught up in chores, so the sashimi will be my breakfast.

I have said before that I consider my post-Up Day weights as my true weight. Looking ahead, I have been considering how I will count that I am AT goal.

I think if my post-Up Day weight is at, or below 154 for three times in a row, I will consider that Goal Met. And as long as I do not have a weight ABOVE 154 more than once in a row, that will be maintaining. Because natural variation may very well bring me up to 155, 156, or more, but hopefully just as a normal swing. I don't want to go back into 'diet' mode anytime I go above 154, but I think I need some sort of signal to keep my eyes on.

That said, I am planning on sticking to 4:3 for one month, regardless of weight during the month. Then, I will take my weight average at the end of the month. So, I guess watching the weights will be more for me to consider water-only fasts, or high-protein ones if I feel I am going up again.

I'm listening to the Diane Rehm show on IF as I type this. I'm so glad it is getting more exposure. I am starting to think I should write an account of my experiences and put it up as a free/cheap e-book. I know how much I like to read about other people's experiences.

The usual reason

I find when I slip, I don't want to come and talk about it.

My Down Day on Monday turned into a crazy free for all. Not certain, but I think it was because I let some emotions push me around.*

But, I pulled myself together, and had a normal Down Day yesterday. Today will be a restrained Up Day. As much as I want to eat, volume-wise, but just a few different items. I need to get back to the rotation plan I was using before the holidays began, to treat my body gently.

I'm also going to have plenty of green smoothies today, to help clear all the wheat-induced bloat (can you say donuts, bread, AND noodles?) out of my system. My nose started running pretty promptly after my indulgence. It is amazing to me that I used to live with constant nose issues. If only I had figured it out years ago. I would literally never leave the house with a BOX of tissues. Now, I rarely even buy them to have a just-in-case box in the house.

So, here are the numbers:

166.0 1/1/14
163.0 1/2
165.5 1/3
162.0 1/4
165.0 1/5
163.0 1/6
168.0 1/7
162.0 1/8
162.0 1/9
161.0 1/10
164.0 1/11
161.5 1/12
166.0 1/13
164.0 1/14
168.5 1/15
168.0 1/16

*Not sure if I feel like posting about them. It is the kind of long term thing that is not resolved by one airing, and I don't want to stir it up again. But I reserve the right to change my mind.

Sirtain-You are so lucky that you get downward movement right before TOM! I always gain! I never thought about it before, but when you mentioned your nose running, I find I am having less sinus/nose/drainage issues. Huh. Interesting. Thanks for your encouragement, Handbells, Zipp, and LoCarbGal. I appreciate it.

And thanks for stopping by my journal, Greengeeny. I always like visitors.

I had a good Up Day yesterday.

Lamb chop for breakfast.
Spinach-pineapple smoothie for lunch.
Lamb roast and spinach in olive oil for dinner.

I meant to have the rest of my smoothie for an after-dinner refresher, but I was too full. Honey drank it down(amazing, as he is not a raw spinach fan).

I feel good heading into this next Down Day, which will be water. Tomorrow I will have a pork-centric Up Day.

My Down Day yesterday was successful. I refrained from the cookies, chocolate, and wine present in the evening, and it was not even particularly hard. No one noticed that I didn't have any.

I WAS hungry when I went to bed, but not in a rough way. I just went to sleep, no fretting about being hungry.

Still hungry when I woke up this morning, so I enjoyed a nice breakfast of ground pork. Other food items on the menu for today are cucumbers, bananas, acorn squash, and vinegar. I'll have a green smoothie(cukes and nanas) the next time I get hungry. Then more ground pork in the afternoon, with a dinner of pork chops, cucumber/vinegar salad, and roasted acorn squash. With bananas fried in pork grease for dessert. Looking forward to all of it.

Did I mention here that in addition to JUDDD, I am going back to my four-day rotation thing, AND adding the restrictions of the Virgin diet? That's dropping wheat, corn, soy, sugar/artificial sweeteners, peanuts, dairy, and eggs for three weeks. Then you can slowly add the groups back in, seeing if you have problems with any of them.

Although I THINK I have figured out my pains(still being cautiously hopeful) I figure this can't hurt. I have tried it before, but sort of forgot I was doing it and ate things I 'shouldn't have'. Going for another round.

I already know wheat and corn aren't good for me. Soy, probably as well. The main difficulty with avoiding it is it is snuck into so many foods. So, I will be eating mostly fresh, which I think we all agree is a good thing.

Although I don't eat a LOT of sugar, I do eat some, so I just need to watch it.

Peanuts- I don't THINK I have a particular problem with them but who knows. Worth a try.

The two killers for me are dairy and eggs. I love those. When I add things back in, I will be doing eggs first. Then butter, then cream, then cheese, followed by yogurt and sour cream.

I think sugar will come back in before peanuts.

The big sacrifice for these three weeks is: NO EATING OUT FOR SASHIMI! Too much risk of soy.

And really, it is going to be more than three weeks, since I will be adding other things in first. Yikes. Wish me luck!

I am thinking that just as when I restricted my diet for the SNAP challenge, I will drop a few extra pounds while cutting these things out.

I'm having fun, figuring out which one meat I will have each eating day, which two vegetables, which fruit. Glad that right now I can view it as a challenge. I feel by the end of the three weeks, I may not be as gung ho! The two veg/one fruit limitation is of my own design, to help make the four day rotation planning easier. Although, with my Down Days in between, it may turn out to be more of a six- to eight-day rotation. All to the good.

Wow, what a long post.

Good luck on finding the culprit(s). I have heard before that perceived sensitivities to foods like nuts and dairy, maybe others too, can completely disappear after eliminating wheat. That the wheat causes leaky gut syndrome which lets other foods out of the gut and makes the immune system go after it all. Hopefully that is the case for you and you'll only really need to eliminate one thing permanently from your diet.

Compliments post

Yesterday I had two compliments, which I want to note down. It is too easy to remember the negatives. I can use a boost of the good stuff sometimes.

Littlest and I were heading out so she could sell cookies Our neighbor just across the street was in his driveway with a his brother(who was our neighbor at our old place), his nephew, and a friend. So, of course, we hit them up for cookies first thing. (And Littlest sold a good chunk!)

Neighbor said," When you came out the door, I had to look to see if it was you or Littlest, you're getting so small." And his brother said, "You're looking more like a high-schooler yourself every time I see you."

Now, these are both bits of outrageous flattery. But I say, BRING IT ON! Everyone likes some outrageous flattery once in a while.

Had a good Up Day yesterday. Ate way too many bananas! But loved them. Here's what went down:

Up at 7:15

8:00 1/2lb fried ground pork

12:00 smoothie made with 1 1/4 cucumbers, 2 1/4 bananas, water

2:30 1/2lb fried ground pork

4:30 2 bananas

7:00 1 1/2 pork chops, cucumber(spiralized!) and vinegar salad, acorn squash

9:30 2 bananas fried in pork fat

Walking: 30"
Yardwork: 60"
Pains: minimal!

Bed at 10:00

And just for fun, I will note that I only went up half a pound after that Up Day. Interesting. My usual is 2-3 pounds. Not that I am complaining! Maybe it is the cleanliness of the rotation/Virgin choices.

I will end this post with a compliment I received a while ago. I think it is still my all-tie favorite compliment. (So much so that I have memorized it. No need to look it up. Shoot, I might even put it on a t-shirt someday!)

WOE: Eating less than 20 carbs a day

All compliments are welcome!!! I have a hard time posting on days that I know I didn't do so well on eating. But, I try to stay true to it. When I eat a high carb cookie or something, it doesn't seem quite as bad as it is in my head when I type it into my journal. The difference is, I CAN eat one cookie now...and stop. I take a bite and realize it doesn't taste quite as good as I remember. Before, I could never do that. If I ate one, and it didn't taste that good, I would atleast eat 3 or 4 more just to make sure!!

Sirtain!!!! What a superb drop!!!! WOW!!! Go, Girl, Go!

I'm not a big pineapple fan, but the though of that smoothie sounds so delicious!

As long as you don't use soy sauce, I would think you would be fine with eating sashimi. I don't use it anymore...I just love the fresh fish taste!

As to the food restriction list: I have eliminated everything on that list except for eggs. Although it has been almost a week since I've had them. I'd be in a mite of trouble without them seeing as I don't eat meat and limit my fish! lol!

Greengeeny- I think that is one of the best things about JUDDD- it is the firt plan that has taught me moderation. Not as a concept, but as something I can actually DO!

Handbells- My favorite things besides the plain fish at the sushi/sashimi place are their chirashi(a variety of fish in a sauce that I am sure contains soy), seaweed salad(with mystery items in the dressing), and a mixed, pickled squid salad(soy again). Although I COULD eat just the fish, I fear I would be too tempted by the other things. And their lunch offerings are usually only three or four types of sashimi. I don't eat a lot of rice, so I can't branch out too much with the sushi. Maybe I should go for dinners, when there are double the varieties. See, there's always a way!

Feeling cold again today. I think I need to get a special Down Day Sweater. Enjoying knitting and watching football. The first game was good(the team I was rooting for won) but not great(a little too one-sided to be exciting). Now for the real nail-biter: my hometeam, the 49ers, going up against the Seahawks. Honey is rooting for the Seahawks, as they have not gone to a Super Bowl, either ever, or in quite a while, can't remember which. I, as ever, will be a Niners fan!

Well, a good game(pretty exciting there at the end!) but not great(my team lost). I received a consolation massage from my Honey.

My plans to buy a Down Day garment- a nice, thick hoodie- are fixed. I was very chilly last night. Had two quilts and a dachshund on me while watching the game, and was still a bit cold. Maybe we should bring legwarmers back in style, too!
