Lindsay asks, To Eat or Not To Eat?
Hello everyone. I'll just start by saying that this journal is for my sanity. Writing keeps me focused. I don't really need to give a big background story so here's the story that got me to you on lowcarbfriends.com.
Had a baby, put on medication, gained and gained and gained, ate carbs out of control, got a rash on neck, doctor asked if I was diabetic, highest weight 216, holy crap I need to do something, NOW.
I began low carb living December 2011. I have lost a little over 30 lbs and have kept it off. Now I'm embracing CAD. I need to feel that food is not forbidden, not the enemy, I need to eat a meal with my family and not be different all the time.
Hope I hear from some of you, I welcome ideas, love support, and can laugh with the best of 'em!
I've been on CAD now since last Friday, so now it's day 5, and I feel a sense of relief. I love eating dinner with my husband and 5 year old daughter. I look forward to that part of my day.

L - salad, cabbage, romaine, chicken, mayo Yogurt w/almonds
D - 2 hot dogs, chili, mustard, onions, whole wheat buns
I am going to the gym directly after work and will do cardio, aiming for 45 minutes.
I can relate to some of that you've said about feeling different because of your diet. My husband is a carbohydrate freak! He could eat pasta every single night! :) I usually make one dinner for him, and another one for me!
So I'm curious, what is CAD? I've never heard of that diet.
Hi Simone! CAD is the Carbohydrate Addict's Diet by the Hellers Check out under the heading "other plans" and there is a CAD hangout thread. Lots of good info about it there. There are guidelines in the book and I'm continuing to read the book and go over it, but in a nutshell, one eats 2 very low carb meals, and the 3rd meal is the reward meal The reward meal can include any foods you want, must be balanced, and can even include dessert. You must eat your reward meal withing 60 minutes. This should not be interpreted as a binge in 60 minutes at all. Snacks are limited to very low carb and there are some guidelines on snacking too.
I'm still getting good at this diet, but it's supposed to regulate your insulin.
I just enjoy having a meal with my family and enjoying the food without thinking it's evil.

Alright, So-----NO CRAVINGS LAST NIGHT! HOLY COW?!!!
For my RM dinner, I ate 3 hot dogs, yes that was crazy, but I was hungry, only 2 with whole wheat rolls, a little chili topping, mustard, onions and cheddar cheese. No salad, but I had salad at lunch, and within my 60 minutes I had a piece of chocolate almond bark.
I didn't eat anything else and I didn't CRAVE. I love that feeling!
Made it to the gym and did a little over 45 minutes of cardio!
Weight this morning - 182 (I hate weighing btw, but I'm going to try to do a daily weigh in for a while until I want to hurl my scale at the wall!)
So, I guess CAD is looked at as sometimes.....a tricky way of eating, because it allows a meal that includes foods higher in carbs once a day. I have to say though, I'm very optimistic about this. I was feeling pretty good today:
BF - coffee with cream
Lunch - buffalo grilled chicken salad (minimal carrots in it---crap) oh well
We'll see what the evening brings!
Todays morning weight ....181 Is this working for me, I'm down another pound???
All I know is ---my cravings are hiding....and that's a wonderful feeling for me.
Last night I had dominoes pizza for dinner (peppers and onions). No dessert, no snacks, nothing after dinner and I didn't want anything else!
I see my nutritionist today and get weighed, I always weigh a little more when I see her, but I'm hoping that the numbers went down from the last time. We'll see?
Drinking my coffee with cream right now. Have a salad for lunch. And I have yogurt. I'm not sure if I'm doing CAD TO THE EXACT SCIENCE, BUT I'M REALLY TRYING.
It says no snacking or one snack is allowed, so not sure....but I had some almonds yesterday in between....who knows??
And yogurt---that's a funny one because I try to get yogurt with the least amount of carbs, but its so hard!
I have officially cut fruit out. It's been a week. Not craving it at all. weird.
Ok, let's see how things go today.

So my nutritionist appt was good. No movement on her scale--still 185. I'm ok with it though because this is my lifestyle, I'm not looking for a quick fix. I'm hopefull with my new refreshed thinking the next visit my weight will be down a little.
This morning on my scale---181 woohoo! (I ate dominoes pizza and dessert last night for my RM) NO CRAVINGS!!!!!!!
I'm feeling good today-----I LOVE FRIDAY! It feels so uplifting to know I have two days ahead of me that aren't filled with----WORK. LOL

I did so well at baby shower yesterday - no cake bread potato or alcohol!!!
This morning---still 181! LOL LOVING CAD! It's like I've found something that fits right now!!!
NSV to keep myself motivated -----A collegue of mine said she was....."jealous because I look so svelt"......that's one of the best compliments to date on my weight loss journey! I was wearing all black, heels on, definitely more dressed up, but that was so nice of her to say!
NO CRAVINGS FOR OVER 11 DAYS! YAY!
Back to work this Monday and pretty tired......I'm looking forward to the 70's baby! Maybe in a couple weeks? Or maybe I'll get a woosh if I keep up some good cardio!

I'm feeling pretty good today, I always have to tell myself to think about HOW FAR I'VE COME. I was a very unhappy obese girl over a year ago, now I'm a happy little bit overweight, but healthy girl now! :)
Now I'm figuring out how to keep losing weight (slowly) and not consider foods illegal. Yay for CAD!!!!!!!

Had a great weekend and stayed on plan! Today I had another realization that there is no race and every good decision I make adds to my success on daily, hourly, minutely basis!

So yesterday I had one piece of homemade cake with my family----woah...awesome! It tasted so good and I didn't need anymore than one piece because I said, if I want another I'll have it at my RM tomorrow!
I feel like this plan is so easy. Haven't derailed in almost 3 weeks.
Not sure if my weight is dropping, but I feel so much better. ;)
Heellooo SCALE - 181 ---again. I'm a bouncer arounder girl....
I'm feeling thinner though, my shirts and pants are loose....so that's a good sign.
Yesterday's dinner was fish and chips....yummy....and a piece of almond choc bark...sooo good! Nothing in the evening for dinner and it feels amazing!

Fruit and breaded chicken were two things I was eating too much of....I think they were adding to my cravings......
Tweak this, change that, add that, eliminate that, it gets so daunting sometimes....I just want to eat my meals, enjoy my food, AND lose weight---HA LOL
I honor food now---I know that sounds weird, but it helps me to navigate through the day.
Good Morning! I'm so tired today.....I just need a break from-----WORK! But then I wouldn't get a paycheck and be able to enjoy my new appliances I got put in yesterday!!!
So all my appliances are stainless/black type except my refridgerator! The refridgerator is so expensive, so we have to wait... We have to buy things one at a time because of money....but my stove is BEAUTIFUL! It has 5 burners and I can't wait to use it for low carb food!
Today so far:

D - meat lasagne (I think)
ok, ravenous this afternoon....not sure why, but I had some nuts and cheese to hold me over Having chicken tenders tonight, not lasagna......from KFC--love them!
Also, tired, needing a restful weekend.
Very tired. very very tired. I need a break. I haven't gotten to the gym this week due to lots of appointments after work. Planning to get there twice this weekend.
My RM last night was great and didn't eat anything afterwards.
Wearing my size 12 pants today and loving it.
Back to the work week. My goal for this week is to be more creative with food. Sometimes it is just so easy to go back to old ways when your creativity is turned off. I feel like I'm on 'dim' right now.....tired, lacking motivation for gym and new recipes.

Alright, so here I am again, another Monday---btw, I hate Monday.
Staying on plan now for over 1 month! And I'm changing my stats today, I'm going by my scale at home now since I'm not seeing the nutritionist for a while at a time. This morning, 181. I'll take it!
I had my 2 CMS already, I'm hungry right now...not craving, just hungry. So I'll have a quick snack before dinner. Probably some peanut butter.....
Dinner will be Reubens!!! Excited for a great homemade deli meal!
Sometimes on these threads I feel like as soon as I post, the thread well, dies. I guess it's me or NOT. LOL
Also, let's talk pants. I'm in such an inbetween size! 14's look too loose, 12's give me a muffin top. WTH!
Going to coldwater creek to rectify the situation. Their pants are flattering and have good sizing... :)
