Just popping in to say hi and that I totally feel your pain! This is my first week on 5:2 (I actually did 4:3) and I ended up GAINING 2 ounce! Not that 2 ounces is a lot but it's the fact that I created a 4500 calorie deficit and didn't LOSE anything. I have a feeling I will be exactly like you with this WOE. I swear to god, things that work for other people NEVER work for me! LOL

I tried the whole No S diet (no sugar, no seconds, no snacking except on weekends) for well over a month and GAINED 9 lbs! And I followed it to the T.

It's just SO hard when you follow things exactly and everyone else is losing weight and I'm gaining. I will say that I tried Leptin (BAB) a year or so ago and I did lose with that--but it was SO hard for me to keep up with my schedule. It meant so much cooking so early in the morning (within 30 min of waking) and eventually, I let it go.

I'm going to stick with 5:2 for a few more weeks and see what happens. I know one woman on the boards said she lost nothing for 3 weeks and then had a 5.5 lb drop. Maybe that'll be me LOL

Thanks for stopping by Nicole . Yes there in no one size fits all for this weight loss journey we are all on . So we continue on and try and figure out what works for us.

Tobelowcarber - Thanks for the encouragement!

Ok so here are my ramblings for the day.

JUDDD - EOD is not possible at this time in my cycle. Between the nausea, hot sweats etc I just cannot comfortably keep my calories low...even on the high end like 800. 5:2, 4:3, 6:1. Whatever I can handle is fine right now!

CARBS - keeping at around 20 for now - I'm finding this has helped with my cravings as well.

CALLANETICS - With 10 days left in the month, I know I am not meeting my goal. Instead of giving up what can I do? 5 sessions before the end of the month? I will try!

HORMONES - I meet with the doc again next week. My blood was taken yesterday. Since my blood was taken last time these are the changes that have been made

Chastetree - 40 drops 3x per day
Testosterone - 1mg a day (cream)
Thyroid Bioidentical - 1 per day
Fish Oil - 1 per day
B50 complex - 2 per day
Multivitamin - 1 per day
Holy Basil - 2 per day
Q10- 1 per day
Omega 3 - 1 per day
Vit D- 5000 IU per day
Ortho-Adapt Vegan - 3 pills per day

I started the chasetree first and was already taking this when first blood panel was taken. Doc said if the chastetree was not strong enough we would move to a bio identical progesterone. Well this cycle has been horrendous in terms of night sweats, nausea and extreme fatigue. So additional progesterone may be the way to go...not sure . I know that I still need some tweaking.

Still looking for more improvement!

Hope. The night sweats and hot flushes are surprisingly debilitating so I have much empathy for you.

Whatever pattern of abstinence you can live with (6:1, 5:2 etc.) is the only one that is right for you.

I'm following the leptin programme, complete with BAB. I batch cook our breakfasts at the weekend and they're microwaved as needed during the week. DH usually has a fresh egg or so with his but he has a silicon gadget that he uses in the microwave and he manages to wash that up.

This way, there aren't additional pans during the week and it's easy to prepare the breakfasts and clean up.

Could you list what you would eat on an UD for breakfast and what you would eat on a DD pretty please?

I don't want to threadjack Hope's journal so:
  • I post my menu M-F eg UD THURSDAY: menu, plans;
  • UD would be something like oily fish (mackerel, salmon) and a breakfast bake; today was black pudding;
  • DD is low calorie, high protein such as white fish (haddock, cod, tilapia), goat sausage, tuna, or crab with a breakfast bake (these bakes are mostly eggs and most of that is egg white).
Breakfast bakes or something like Linda Sue's tuna muffins (I think I gave recipe link in Monday's DD thread) are simple to bake in advance and re-heat.

I cook fish, sausages, liver sausage, black pudding in advance and reheat as necessary.

May 24 - 149.6 - 20 min callanetics, 1786 cals >20 grams of net carb
May 25 - 149.6

Well the scale has been moving downward this past 3 days. This morning we are at a standstill...normal I suppose! I was 145 mid April. and eating drinking a ton of carbs. Moving on!

Trying to stay between 20 and 25 grams.

Today we are going on a family road trip to a carshow...which means little control over my food. I guess I can always order a burger and remove the bun, or maybe 2 burgers .

My plan is to up my carbs after 2 weeks and start climbing the ladder to find my sweet spot!

Expecting TOM today.

The carb cravings have been rough today...not sure if this is impending TOM or Day 6 of low carb.

I am in ketosis, I think anyways, given my thirst.

I have not counted calories today.

Breakfast at home was good.

Made a good choice at the restaurant - a bunless burger topped with ham, bacon, mushrooms and 2 cheeses. I should have avoided the vodka though.

I got into the natural peanut butter but was able to stop.

Tried to crunch the cravings with a coffee with cream and artificial sweetner, which I haven't had in ages, we were out though and I did not have my stevia.

I'm still craving something sweet.

Hey Monica

My weight creeped up last night. Went out to dinner with a girlfriend last night. Had steak and asparagus and 1 glass of red wine.

Here are my numbers from the past week or so.

May 20 - 152.6 - 60 min walk. 1700 cals >20 grams of net carbs
May 21 - 153.4 - rest day 1590 cals >23 grams of net carbs
May 22 - 150.8 - 30 min walk, 1861 cals 23 grams of net carb
May 23 - 150.4 - rest day - 1500 cals, > 17 grams of net carb
May 24 - 149.6 20 min callanetics, 1786 cals 20 grams of net carb
May 25 - 149.6 - did not "formally" count but I think I did fine carb wise, minus the spoon in the peanut butter - Impending TOM and cravings are fierce
May 26 - 149.6 - did not formally count but carbs were in check. 60 min walk
May 27 - 149.6 -30 m walk, 2000 calories 28 net grams of carb (TOM)
May 28 - 152.8

Plan for today??? Water, water, water. Shooting for a low calorie day. 1300 or less!

Hey Monica

Totally frustrated today.

My weight is up 2.5 lbs since the beginning of the month.

I've gone low carb. Less than 25 grams a day.

Still trying to get hormone levels optimized.

I need to gt me a** out for a walk this morning and shake of this grump!

Thanks for the thought my friends.

Still in this hormone hell. I had a bad "episode" over the past week. Not sure what else to call them. They happen all too often now, I was hoping see this new intergrative doc would help. I am crawling out of this deep hole of depression I have been in for the past few days. Yesterday was a better day and today I can think a bit better.

So this is what is happening with me.

My weight increase

April 1 - 144
April 15 - 144

April 19 -Started taking testosterone and thyroid hormones

May 1- 150
May 19- 151.6
May 21- 153.5

May 29th - increased doses of thyroid and testosterone

May 30 - 152.4
June 4 and 5th and 6 - 157.8

And this is despite JUDDing the first two weeks of May and Atkins the second half of the month.

I called the doc in a panic yesterday and have a phone meeting with her this afternoon.

I am so exhausted from all this...I need this to end. Now dealing with even more weight....seriously? It really is tipping the scales for me emotionally too as you can see.
The thoughts in my head are very scary.

I would imagine the testosterone could be causing the weight gain? Did the DR indicate if that was the case??? The Thyroid meds? are those new to you? Is your thyroid not functioning well?

I hate that you are struggling so. Depression doesn't help with dealing with it or making the number go down either. Please know you are in my thoughts and I am sending good vibes your way!

I hope the doctor has some good answers for you, Hope. I know that kind of gain must make you feel even more like you're not in control of your body. I'm sure there is a logical explanation, and right now, getting you back on an even keel emotionally is definitely the top priority.

Hope, you've been through such a wretched time. I can only hope that your doctor has some useful guidance for you.

Carrying so much water must be exhausting and it can't be doing your electrolyte balance any good.

I have nothing to say that wouldn't seem trite when you're grappling with depression. As per the others, my thoughts are with you.

I think this "episode" is related to thyroid hormone. Doc doubled my dose to 60mg, and warned me if I felt anxious etc that we would have to re evaluate, as she did not want the med to heighten my anxiety.

When I saw the endo last year he told me thyroid was fine. The integrative doc says it could be optimized hence the thyroid meds. The scales usually go the reverse way, so I;m not sure what is up with me? I feel like I did before I went to see her, in a fog, weepy etc. Do I just need prozac?

I am committed to finding a better quality of life.

Labs

April 2 labs -
TSH - 2.73 range .30-5.60
T4 Free - 10.6 range 7.2-21.0
Free T3 - 3.9 range 2.9-6.0

May 21st Lab-
TSH - 2.18 range .30-5.60.
T3 and T4 were not tested - but I will call the lab to be sure they just did not send the results because I know it was on the requisition and ofcourse I did not make a copy of that one...argh!

After much research think I am hypothyroid given my low #'s for T3 and T4 - they like these numbers to be in the top 1/3. And TSH to be at around 1.

Funny thing is last year I went to an endocrinologist and he tested my TSH only and told me I was fine because I was within range....argh!

So my weight feels like a eight on my shoulders again.

Scale this morning is 153.8 so I have had a bit of a loss, not enough to make me fell normal though.

I know I need a plan....so I will ponder that today!
