Trying to get back on track.

In January 2011, I weighed 163 lbs. Too much for my 5'6" frame. So, I went to see a doctor. He put me on a low carb plan, 2 oz. of protein with veggies, low carb yogurt, berries, and a lot of water. I had to eat 5 times a day, which was pretty easy for me. He also gave me an appetite suppressant to help with the afternoon cravings. Within three or so months, I had lost 30 lbs. At my lowest, I was 129 in April, 2012. During the summer, I went to Greece and Italy with a group of students and teachers from my school. I gained about 5 lbs. I came back home and tried to get back on track, but my weight stayed the same. Now, after the holidays, I have gained another 5 lbs. It is driving me crazy, but it won't seem to budge. I tried counting points (WW), but found I was using all my points, and then some. So, now I am going to try my low carb plan, again. I eat realy well at work, but pick constantly at night while I am at home (usually alone). So, I am thinking of fasting for a few days first, to detoxify. Has anyone tried the Master Cleanse ? ( lemon juice, maple syrup, and cayenne.) I am so frustrated with myself, I don't know what else to do.

I think you need to read up and pick a plan that you think will work for your lifestyle. LC does work and if done properly you should feel satiated and not need an appetite suppressant. There are a lot of plans out there with many variations so one should appeal to you.

My advice is to prepare, prepare, prepare. Get rid of the high carb processed foods in your house and get fresh produce and meats, stay away from the inner aisles of the market. The first few days of any LC plan will be hard as you are denying your body those addictive carbs and it will want them bad. So you have to have foods you love that are LC those first days. For me it is bacon, avocado, cheese and shrimp. Find out what yours are. If it is a nice rib eye with sauteed mushrooms, then have it. If you eat what you like and are satiated it makes getting off of high carb foods much easier.

As far as the master cleanse I have done it but I am not sure if it will help you jump start your way into a LC way of eating. In fact when I have done it I have eaten a lot more food a few days after I stopped the cleanse. But that is me and I am not good when I feel deprived.

Once you find a plan try and join a daily support group where people can help you with information, support and motivation. Good luck starting your LC journey!

Thanks for the support and advice. My weight has yo-yo'd throughout the years and although it has never been totally out of control, I know watching the scale go up and down can not be good for me, especially as I get older and my metabolism slows. Eating low carb has been the most successful approach for me short of starvation, which I'm just not into anymore! I also love avocado, shrimp, cheese, and, yes, an occasional steak (my Nebraska upbringing).

I did start the master cleanse last night and even if I don't do the entire 10 days, I think it will be a good jump start and help to detox my body from the overindulgence of the holidays. I already feel less bloated and lighter. It was very easy to follow today at work because I stay so busy. This evening has been a little rough, but I am going to do it. I will keep you posted on how it goes. Thanks, again.
