J's Journal

Hi all. I'm an on-again off-again low-carber. I've frequented this forum for years - mostly lurking and have finally decided to journal.

I've topped as high as 245 and as low as 155.

235-245:

155-170:

Sorry, I know I look like a jerk in that first picture - it was jokingly taken but shows a full-shot of how much weight I did lose then.

I've struggled with:
  • Binging and Purging
  • Depression
  • Diabetes
  • High Blood Pressure
  • High Cholesterol

Well, those are the big ones. All of those are still pretty prevalent except for the purging. Done with that. Tired of the rest. I'd love to fit in my "skinny" clothes again. More importantly I'd love to be healthy again.

So, here we go:

Male, 231.2lbs as of 7ish this morning. Central time.

Looking to get down to 135. (I stand at a whopping 5'4" so don't be alarmed!)

I'm hoping this is the last time I ride this roller coaster. I don't think my body can take much more of it - and I'm scared to death of getting so sick I can't take care of myself... the last thing I want is to be a burden on anyone.

I'll post again later tonight after my day's through. Feels good to be back.

edit: forgot to mention i had 3 liters of water total for the day

JJJ, welcome back to LC! I have been a re-tread back to LC several times myself. Keep up with the good menus and drinking your water and you'll be in great shape.

I am glad you are not purging any longer. Eating LC can help with so many medical issues but the binging and purging is something we have to deal with on an emotional level although not eating carbs can decrease the urge to binge. After many years of emotional/stress eating I am learning to identify my triggers and deal with them.

Your headaches could be from carb withdrawal or if you have decreased your caffeine. Hopefully they will subside soon.

Thanks for the warm welcome back

I'm glad too. That was back in the day (the purging). The binging never stopped unfortunately. Five or so years ago I was seeing a therapist for it - but after 6 months we parted ways... she wanted to put me on depressants and I really wanted none of that.

It's a lot better than it has been but it definitely needs to stop completely. It's nice being on here because I can relate with a lot of people about it... and you're right... cutting out carbs definitely puts a halt (or at least a major roadblock) on the binging... but a small carby snack is all it takes for me to bring it back... and that's what I'd love to control one day - being able to make mistakes and not having it end in a binge by the end of the night.

Thanks again!

JJ, I am glad you are feeling so great. It can take a few days to get out of the carb funk from a standard diet to a LC diet. I love the Wingstop parmesan wings myself, I can eat quite a few of those. Keep up the good work!

down 6+lbs in less than a week!! i'm sure a lot of that is just water weight but it's still exciting to see on the scale. i just know i can't let that scale become an obsession!

also, i need to go grocery shopping... fridge is empty (hence all the low-carb bread, lol)

JJ, congrats on the week down and the over 6 lbs lost! Looking at your menus you seem to like the same foods over and over. I do the same thing. I won't tire of a food for weeks and weeks and then all of a sudden I need something new and eat that for a while. Looks like you are staying pretty consistent with your carb levels which is great if you are enjoying what you are eating because then you'll be able to stick to your plan. Keep up the good work.

Thank you!! Yeah, once I hit a routine I kind of stick with it... I'm starting to tire of it though and am branching out

About 50 carbs a day seems to be working for me without much struggle. I just need to change the diet up so I don't get bored!

My absolute favorite LC thing to eat! I will go to a mediterranean buffet and get a pile of Gyros meat to go and eat off of this for several meals. Aldi also has a Gyros sandwich pack in their freezer section. I eat the meat and the sauce and give the pita bread to a friend. More than any other meat I crave Gyros and never seem to tire of this.

Nice to see some variety with the salmon and especially with the shiratake. I love the Miracle Noodles because they have no carbs or calories or soy.

Down 11.4lbs in less than two weeks!! Ecstatic! I do need to start incorporating anaerobic exercise, however. I also wanted to go for a walk but Chicago's been experiencing -10 to -20 wind chills all day today!! Brr!!!

Way to go on the two week loss! That is awesome that you are down that much.

How are you feeling about food? Do you feel right now that LC is going to be doable long term in your life?

Thank you! It's a good feeling, that's for sure.

I do feel it is. I mean, I've done it on and off for the last five or so years... the longest running for almost two years solid... I just need to remind myself that this is just a way of eating for me... I keep thinking about giving myself a cheat day here and there or when I go on vacation but I'll really have to iron the specifics out on that!

0745ct: multivitamin, 1
1000mg fish oil, 0
shake (protein, 2tbsp peanut butter, 1 cup almond milk), 12

1045ct: coffee w/half & half and splenda, 5

2030ct: small lou malnati's "crustless" deep-dish pizza, 20
24oz diet coke, 0

2245ct: 12oz coke zero

2 liters water throughout

38 total carbs

Notes
It was so good to eat pizza again, even without the crust. Counting carbs on that is hard since there's really no way to gauge it but I took a high average of 20.

Wooohoooo! Great job!!!!

I hope you took some before pics. I did not and now wish I had. Have you also taken measurements? Sometimes those can be a fantastic motivator when the scale does not move.
