It doesn't bother me to make them. Same things I have always made for family and friends for years !

What kinds of pies does your family enjoy ?
Yep, DH eats LC with me + carbs lol !!
Shelby is coming tomorrow to bake cookies and spend the night. I just got the dough made up so we can just do the fun part

Hope you had a relaxing day !

Ah. tomorrow's Shelby's day.
DH & DS like cherry & apple... DIL likes pumpkin. I used to make all 3, but now will only make two. So much work!
Hope your DH is in good health!

We loaded up the really old furniture from our spare rooms, & got the new stuff. Did Saturday catch up with my veggies & a turkey... DH did a bunch of chores too, other than that, we took it easy. Raining out!

Raining? Holy smokes! I'm sorry I was MIA today, Laura. Read the horse lover's thread and you'll understand why. Making cookies and pies sounds delightful! Deb, so glad you got your furniture. It's 2:30 am and I have to find a way to wind down now, but if you want to pick my brains, go to the horse lover's thread.

Good Sunday Morning Laura! Have fun making cut-out cookies with Shelby! My littles ones love to bake also! I hope someone takes a few pictures of the 2 of you while you are working together. It's a memory maker - baking with grandma! And you could make an ornament out of the picture!

morning beautiful ladies !

DH got up super early and is smoking/bbqing a huge turkey on the pit outside. 39 degrees right now and sunny. We bought this huge bird last year and it's too big to deep fry ( our favorite way to eat one ) so he came up with this idea. It will take ALL day.

Yes, Debby DH is in good health, but he said he would do more LC and hasn't with the holidays. I only buy bread or crackers when he asks for them. But .... I tell him not to eat HF/LC plus his carbs. Worries me and I've explained it to him.

Wow CHeryl sounds like a neat day with the goat love I went and read over there..

Susan I bet your grandbabies love cooking /baking with you So neat ! That pic/ornament idea is great ! Did you make one ??

Debby I bet you are loving the new furniture this morning . It is just so nice... How did you cook your turkey ... was it a whole one too ??

hope you all have a great day. Not sure what time Shelby is coming . Will try to get some chores done and catch the laundry back up before then. lol !

uh oh.....DH just said the turkey is really dark....... might end up going to the dog's ( for about a month ) Allie and Snickers would be thrilled. But, i planned on us having this all week to eat on. ;/ Hope it's just the smoke and it turns out. :0

I hope so, too. Good grief! I hate when something goes wrong with a beautiful piece of meat. Such a waste.

I love the idea of the pictures of you and Shelby making cookies. And making an ornament out of them sounds like a wonderful idea. What a way to preserve a moment.

Okay. Just making the rounds. Good luck with the turkey.

Was the turkey smoked? If now, can you take it back?
I just baked it, as always. When I do it for everyone I stuff it first...

Nope, we bought it last Christmas ... no way to do anything except if it doesn't turn out~ feed it to the dogs.

Oh... sounds like freezer-burn. Might not be too appealing to the dogs either.
BBQ Turkey is supposed to be good... you can also just put it in a roaster & cook with lid closed, if you can control the heat. A rotisserie would be good also... The 'brined' turkey was supposedly good & moist, if you don't mind sodium. Deep-frying can destroy a turkey... DH experienced that at camp. I prefer the old fashioned way....

Yeah. Maybe a combo of freezer burn and trying to cook a large hunk of meat over direct flame. I'm sorry the bird bombed, Laura. Happy dogs! Live and learn. What does a deep-fried turkey taste like? I've never had one but I hear they are succulent.

I'm tired and "charted" over on my journal. Off to try and decompress. Otherwise I won't relax enough to sleep before 2 am. Hugs!

The deep-fried one that DH had... in-edible. Too crispy to cut!

Ladies, the turkey was good ! It is a huge pit that DH had custom built and the fire is in a fire box on the side so the meat is never over the "fire". The outer skin was dark , but the meat was good and tender. Yay ! Dogs will get some of it and some skin, but the rest is all ours. ( wings were crunchy so Allie and Snickers enjoyed those )

made hamburger steaks, green beans, and mashed tators - ate 2 small hamb patties myself. Was scared the turkey wouldn't be ok, so made a backup ! lol !

Shelby had such fun making cookies and rolling them out - cutting them out - decorating them...... she was a blast Will try to post some pics.... don't judge, I had a full day before we got around to them and I look pretty rough lol ! DS2's fiancee was here and had never made cookies from scratch, so she helped

We went to pick up the "special" cookies I had made for the shower tomorrow and took Shelby riding for a few minutes to look at Christmas lights. she is just IN AWE of any little decoration. She loved them. Last year I took her too and she remembers every detail ! Amazing, she was only 2 last yr !!

hope you all had a great day. I'm totally worn out from last few days. Baby shower tomorrow and then take Shelby all the way home ( they usually meet me 1/2 way ).

have a wonderful night !

Sounds like a great day! I'm jealous of the dogs getting to eat the wings... I love it crunchy! We enjoyed turkey for lunch today too.
That's great that you did the cookies together.
Will you be going back to work to get a rest!?

Awwww Laura! Those pictures are so sweet! Christmas through the eyes of a 3 year old! You can't beat that!

I don't have any pics of me baking with the little ones - everyone else is at work when they are here .

Another busy day ! I'm super tired. We went to baby shower, then I took Shelby home and then we drove an additional 30 miles to look at a Christmas light festival ~ Then back to Shelby's to drop them off , then another hour home. Wow !

Resting now ~ made taco soup and got a hot shower. Sitting here by my Christmas tree in my jammies with a blankie.. <3 Hope to sleep like a rock and get ready for next 6 . Ugh...

Hope you all have a wonderful week !

You amaze me, working 6 in a row each run. That's all fine and dandy when things go well, but when they don't, it's difficult to find time and ways to "refuel." I'm glad you had a busy and nice day. Rest well tonight.

Not going to happen anytime soon.....

You sound just like my sister Donna, who was the middle child and the first nurse in our family. Actually, she was the first in our family to go to college and make something of herself. She was always cleaning houses and babysitting and doing things for money from a young age, then moved into the dorm at school when she was around 17 or something. Go go go!

Now she is very debilitated and disabled from working and is almost unable to even drive. I feel terrible for her but have no idea how to help or brighten her life. She just seems so defeated and down-trodden. They have her on some seizure drug that is actually dampening her spirits and making her less tolerant of others. It's sad. Actually, it's tragic.

She was the one who never got into drinking, smoking or doing drugs. She always had a weight problem but other than that, she was healthy. Life isn't fair, is it.

Sorry. I didn't mean to go on about her but you reminded me so much of her when she was younger and able. So motivated and driven to succeed and she really loved being a nurse.

No CHeryl, I'm not that dedicated. I do try to stay busy, but would love to not work as much. Working in the ER makes you jaded... '
Your sister really does sound depressed. Hope that gets better soon.
