Thanks Cheryl,
Actually, my neighbor has a beef. Lots of farmers here... if you catch 'em before they send them off to auction, its actually more reasonable.
Today's the last day of 'open season' so I may be ordering that beef soon.

I got to sleep in this morning. It was nice! DH snuck out about 5 am.

I think you meant "thanks Laura" so I want to give thanks where thanks are due.

Come on, DH! You can do it!

I'm so sorry about your MIL. Does she not want Chemo or is that something they won't do at her age? I hate to see someone who still have quality of life just give up because they are told they have cancer. And I bet she'll have more than six months. I wish they didn't tell her that. Often just being told that by the Dr's is enough to make it come true. I hope not, in her case. But there is no such thing as a painless cancer. If it gets advanced enough to take her life, she's going to need all that hospice can offer her. May she go quietly in her sleep one night, with no suffering at all.

Thanks Cheryl! Yes, I meant Thanks Laura!

Yeah, she's seen too many people take chemo... wants nothing to do with it. I don't think she'll give up either. Will continue on & walk through what she has to... very strong woman. I do hope she doesn't end up in lots of pain. She's never been one to take anything for pain.

Hehehee... thanks for prayers Cheryl... that would be great if he does get one today... even a buck!

Hope everyone has a good day. I'm home alone again... last day of moose hunting till the bow season opens again.

I took Molly for a really long run just before lunch... then took her for a rabies shot. Want to be able to cross the border if we have to go down... thinking maybe Thanksgiving, to see MIL. She sounds pretty good though. The vet is really impressed with Molly. Says she is in excellent health & has actually 'worn' off her own claws (from all the running) I asked her about a class to get her used to other dogs, because of my neighbor's aggressive dogs teaching her to greet other dogs with aggression. She said she actually has a kennel in her own home & takes in dogs when people go away. They get lots of supervised time together & get this... its not as expensive as the regular kennels (too much) because its not her main business! She also doesn't advertise... invitation only! Too cool! So, that will open up our week-ends for motorcycling again! She'd be in good hands & having fun!

No news from DH yet... a couple spot checks this afternoon, but no news.
Time to go fix my dinner... TTYL

That's fabulous! Having a great place to leave the dog when you are away opens up all kinds of possibilities. I'm glad I found one for Cisco. Same place as I take her to get groomed.

Have a great night. I'm pooped! Still hoping DH bags something good.

Thanks girls,
Its been a long, hard week & he almost killed himself getting it out of the bush... the quad flipped over on him with half the moose attached, but PTL he rolled out of the way just in time! 2 guys, 8 + hrs to haul it out... much like DS's to get out... We'll be cutting & wrapping meat for a while, starting tomorrow. Then to get the quad repaired...
Yes, DS40 has been hunting since he was 10 or 12.

He got a moose !

Wow, you all wrap your own meat too ? My DH would get a deer, but he would only process some, all the rest went to the place to be processed ! Very expensive

Glad the hunting is over. Hope DH didn't hurt himself

Have a good sleep, sounds like you have lots of work ahead

Thanks Laura, DH is fine. Its amazing really, people get killed by quads flipping over on them... he said it was like slow-motion & he was able to roll out of the way.
I'm hoping we can take the scraps in to have made into hamburger, its not that expensive. But we have always cut & wrapped our own. Yes, big job... now we have 2 to do!

OMG, Debby. I'm so glad he wasn't hurt. I believe him when he said it was like "slow motion." It's odd how that happens. I think the brain has to brake it down into small pieces of information in order to tell the body what to do to save itself. God made us so it's no wonder how amazing we are!

Is the second moose as large as the first? I'm so happy for you all! What a blessing it is to have all that fresh and healthy meat to last you all through the winter and well into next year. (I just knew he was going to get one.)

Have an excellent day and remember to take a rest every so often. Is Molly hiding in a corner somewhere? Big bad moose is there!

2nd moose is normal size. Molly has slowly got brave enough to check out the hide after DS skinned it (big Popsicle).

Yeah, it will be a busy day for me (isn't it always for the mom)? I will serve lunch & get the kiddo's set up to watch a movie downstairs; help the guys get set up for cutting/butchering... then help clean, wrap, label, weigh & freeze.

I tried to not have the kiddo's come (these are the Hoyty-Toyty ones)... they will have nothing to do. But DS figures the TV will be enough... oh well... we'll see how many show up. It would be nice for their mom to have the afternoon to herself. (she won't come, she's REALLY Hoyty-Toyty)

Hi Laura,
Tastes very much like good venison.

that moose is for HER family and those are HER kids ?? How many kiddos might show up ? lol ! TV isn't entertaining anymore for kids. ~~~ That's just amazing. Does she never come over ?

Don't work too hard. I like venison, was raised eating it, DH not so much !

Oh ya, she does. But she can't stand the sight of blood & has fought the whole moose thing for years. This year is progress because she's looking forward to the hamburger
The 3 oldest came & were perfect angels. They enjoyed watching & talking for a while & then watched a movie & I think using the exercise equipment. Plus playing with Molly a little.

We got 2/3 of DS's moose done... the hard part. DH's taking the day off to do the rest & 3/4 of ours (friend gets 1/4 - that's all he wants). So, pretty good progress.
I baked frozen-store-bough lasagne & Pennini for lunch & reheated for dinner.
Molly's really enjoying the scraps & bones.
So Tired.

Wow, Debby. Molly's going to be eager the next time she sees a moose carcass coming into the house. Now it means bones and scraps to her! I hope you freeze the bones and scraps too so she can have them throughout the winter.

I have to be honest. The more I handle raw meat, the more I want to become a vegetarian. I was finally freezing up all that meat I bought (which much of it had gone bad because of my procrastination) and it really struck me how much I hate handling raw animal flesh. I know it must be different for you because it's so fresh and you're cutting it up the way you like it done and it is such a blessing from God to have even gotten one just in the nick of time.

Have a great day. Back to work for me. I noticed today that my Christmas Cactus is budding already! I gave them a much needed drink of water.

yeah, handling rotten meat will turn you off, that's for sure... when you have to clean up some meat that is blood-shot you get that quesy feeling too. Fortunately that is rare.
Working together, doing my part to help & also having a hand in how its cut, cleaned & wrapped is pretty cool. Also no smell... my G'kiddos were in awe that I actually helped!!! They are growing up in such a different situation... I am my dh's helpmate.

I hope so... but mainly I want to make things easier on dh.
I went to work this morning, but only stayed 2 hours & came home to help with the butchering.

Well, we got it all done. 2 moose in 2 days. I have to take the burger meat to the butcher tomorrow to have them grind it up for us & then will bring it home & wrap & freeze. Later when dh has time & energy, he'll make jerky.
DIL brought the guys pizza tonight. That was sweet of her, saved me cooking for them.
No exercise again for me today or yesterday, but the 9 hrs of standing counts for enough... I can really feel it WAS a work-out.
Scale gave me a glimpse of the wt. loss that's been happening behind the scenes of irregularity... down another bit. I bought cod liver oil tablets to throw in & help when needed... I think it works.

2 moose in 2 days? WOW! You must be exhausted, Debby. Both of you! Do your arms and backs ache? I wish your hot tub was still in existence for you right now. I'll bet you do, too.

How many freezers does it take to store all that meat? I haven't got a clue.

Yep, tired. Going to bed soon!
Our freezer is one of those big chest size ones. DS has 2 uprights... Ours is only 2/3 full right now. But after the burger gets in there it will probably be close to full... will definitely have to "organize" it or I won't see anything but moose for months.
The moose we have here are not as gigantic as the ones in Alaska.

Well, good night!

Hi girls,
Yes, its amazing... I have a hard time keeping up with my men. Was sore all over last night, but happy. I took the meat to be ground up to the butcher this morning... will pick it up tonight & then we have to package & freeze it. Whew!
Just got news MIL is heading for surgery. They need to stop the bleeding. They're putting a scary spin on it... said if they can't they will be sending her home to die at home... So, I'm kind of edgy right now, praying for her & for direction for all of us. DH is out of cell reception...
I clocked Molly's long run... this afternoon (only one of her runs)... it was 3.1 miles long... doing 21-27 mi per hr. the whole way. Funny dog... still has energy!

I'm so sorry to hear that about your MIL. I hope she is at peace and if her time is as limited as it sounds, that she endures little pain. Peace to all of you during this difficult time.
