Ladies, I am so sorry I have not been around. The nasty cold and snow made me depressed these past couple of days and I have not been staying faithful on plan. Consequently, I gained some of the weight that I lost back. I've been eating stupid things like grilled cheese, potato chips, chocolate cake...

I have not been eating large amounts but even when I eat small portions of carby food, I put the weight right back on. I am getting back on track tonight with a good dinner of grilled chicken and salad.

Again, I am really sorry for the disappearing act. I just felt so ashamed. Really ashamed -- like I could not face anyone because I have been such a bad dog.

The important thing is you are climbing right back up on the wagon. Blip on the radar! I understand exactly what you mean about any veer from strict low carb equaling a fast and significant gain-- it's the most frustrating thing ever.

Good to see you weathered the storm. It is depressing to be indoors for many days on end. But, in true Gail fashion, you are now brushing yourself off and restarting. You will be okay. This is not a race. It is a lifetime commitment to making ourselves healthy. There will be junkfood days. Fair days. Amusement park days. Snuggle in and eat crap days. Overall this is not your lifestyle anymore and that is the biggest reward. It is only a moment now, instead of your way of life. Glad to see you back

Thanks you guys -- I really, really appreciate it! I am just having a really hard time getting back on track in general -- not just with low carb either. Usually I am excited and happy to embrace a new year. But I think having a long break off from work coupled with snow/freezing weather and getting sick turned me into a lazy, depressed hermit who was craving carbs like crazy. Getting TOM in the middle of it did not help matters.

Once Tony's family left on Monday, Dec. 30, my real vacation of just relaxing began -- just as the snowstorms, cold front, TOM and me getting sick happened. I was fine on Monday and Tuesday but from Jan. 1 on, I could not stay on plan and ended up by gaining. I was supposed to go to NYC for Jan. 2-3 to see friends but had to cancel that because of the weather. And on Jan. 6-8 I was sick with a terrible cold (but still eating grilled cheese, so go figure).

Thanks so much guys for your friendship, support and love. I was so touched by everyone's nice comments - I almost cried at work yesterday and this morning reading them. I can only hope to be half as supportive to all of you!

I think I am finally back on track. We had a healthy low carb dinner last night. We have to go out to dinner tonight with friends but I have already scoped out the menu for low carb options. The temperature is going to reach 50 degrees here tomorrow (and it is snowing right now!) so I am planning to go for an 8 mile walk before I get my hair colored and my nails done. Ladies, nothing keeps me from my beauty routines -- I mean nothing! I know vanity is not a good thing but sometimes it comes in handy as a form of self-preservation! I hope everyone has a great day today xo xo xo!

OMG Gail!!!!! You cannot be perfect at all times, we all mess up! This has been a bad start to the year though with the extreme weather, illness etc!!!! I am so ready for Vegas and warmth and change of routine, you tend to get bogged down in winter all the holiday stuff then I am sort let down after, like all that work and then its over!

You will be fine hun!

Good Morning Gail! Thanks for sharing the article. My only resolution this year is to try to be positive and optimistic. I have a tendency to think the opposite in situations, finding fault or "what might go wrong" etc. etc. etc.
I'm a great "what iffer". I need to "let it go" so I can enjoy my life .
But I can't give up on reducing my weight .... I'm still obsessed with the number on the scale!

Lazy, depressed hermit- I call this decompressing and I believe it is actually a healthy thing to do!

Hi Gail, I am so glad you are back! I am sure by now you are done beating yourself up for falling off the wagon for a short time. No biggie in the scheme of things.. The fact is you came back and didn't disappear for months or years like I tend to do.

Thankfully the nasty weather is behind us for awhile. Our ten day forecast looks decent except for one day in the teens and some snow showers.

Hi Amber -- I know what you mean -- it is yuck here too. You missed a lot of the worst of it though so be happy for that! Boston and Philly had some super cold days -- like frigid temperatures -- that you missed so that's good. Look at it this way -- we just have to get through February and part of March and then it will be Spring!

I am having a lot of trouble staying on low carb which is why I have not been around.

It is so hard sometimes. So hard. Low carb is a wonderful way to eat, but many of the comfort foods I crave when it's cold or stormy or I don't feel well...well, they aren't low-carb.
