Judy -- LOL! The bacon wrapped sirloin sounds delicious! And I really like BLTs. Funny, before I met Tony, I never liked bacon, sausage, steak or even any kind of red meat but he converted me when I met him way back in 2001 -- LOL! He is a very good cook too so that makes it easier. We introduced new dishes and foods to each other.

Laura, I use Thai Kitchen coconut milk -- it is delicious and they have it at most supermarkets. It is nice to have an Asian or Thai dish to break up the monotony of low carb eating. I always try to make sure our meals are really varied from day to day so we don't get bored and cheat. I always feel like I am just one decision way from ordering a grilled cheese, fries and chips or an ice cream -- all of which is gross to be eating at my advanced age but you can't help your taste buds (even if they stopped growing -- I feel like if I could eat anything I wanted, it would be things that I liked as a kid even though I should not be eating them now!)

I was just craving cinnamon raisin toast with butter then realized that getting thinner is WAY BETTER than that stupid craving!

A few months ago when I was in a non-dieting /fat-activist mode, I ordered a 3-cheese grilled cheese sandwich - with sliced tomato. I think it was the best sandwich I ever had.. It would have been better with bacon though!
You can easily make a LC BLT if you baked your own bread with almond/flax/coconut flour. I could never recommend that horrible LC Julian Paleo bread stuff. What a waste of $50 for 4 loaves of bread! TRASHED and I NEVER throw out food!

I am not a huge meat eater.. I much prefer seafood, chicken or CARBY bean and pasta dishes. But, after doing LC on and off again I've really had a new fondness for the breakfast meats of bacon, sausage, ham.. etc.

I just cooked the bacon steak in the oven.. had to micro it for a few extra minutes to get the crispiness I like.. DH likes it chewy- I like it crisp. We should have some delish BLT's in 2 hours! Not sure I can last that long.

Judy, that three-cheese grilled cheese sandwich sound fabulous -- yum. How did your bacon steak and BLTs turn out? Isn't it fun to cook on a Sunday? I always enjoy it.

What is a fat activist? I am intrigued. I like the idea of advocating for heavy people and making sure that they are not discriminated against. I was thin for many years before I gained weight in my mid-forties and people treat you differently when you are heavier. I really hate any kind of fat discrimination. There are so many worse things than being heavy -- like being mean, violent, jealous, vindictive, greedy, the list goes on.

I am only working Monday and Tuesday this week because I look Wednesday off as a vacation day and our Company gives us Thanksgiving and the day after off so I am beyond excited! Just have to get through these two days! It is FREEZING here in Boston with a very cold wind and we are supposed to get a bad rain/wind storm on Wednesday. Oh well -- winter is around the corner!

Have a GREAT day all!

Lisa, 7 degrees? Holy smokes! It is about 22 degrees here and I am whining -- LOL. Yes we are supposed to get a terrible wind/rain storm on Wednesday -- the day before the holiday and also the biggest travel day of the year. Thank God we are not planning on driving to CT to Tony's brother/sister in law's on that day. We are going to leave super early on Thanksgiving morning -- like 6:00 AM -- so we should get there before 10:00 AM. Once we get there, we will drop off the food/wine at their house and go for a long walk. Their neighborhood in Connecticut is gorgeous --lots of trees, hills and opulent homes to look at while we walk. Then we will check into the hotel, shower and get cleaned up for the holiday and return to their house.

They are not eating Thanksgiving dinner until 5:30 PM so I told Tony I don't want to get there too early. I figure if we get there by 1:30 we should be fine. We are bringing all the hors d'oeuvres/appetizers, wine and alcohol so I figure Tony's sister in law, Sarah, will want us to get all that stuff ready for the guests. I love seeing Tony's nieces who are just the most beautiful little girls on earth so that will be fun.

I know I sound like a horrible jerk but I can't stand being cooped up in someone else's house for hours on end unless I am pretty close to them. We will be the only ones there from Tony's side out of 21 adults attending. The rest are Sarah's family and friends. I like Sarah and her mother very much but I can only take small talk for so long. Tony and his brother, Dan, will be glued to the football games on TV so I am kinda on my own. I am a pretty socially comfortable person for the most part -- generally polite and respectful, small talk comes easily to me. However, as a Virgo, I can only do that for about 5-6 hours or so and then I'm done.

Fortunately, I booked a really nice hotel that is close to his brother's house, so Tony and I can have a nice night together. I am hoping we can conclude our evening with a jacuzzi bubble bath, candles and a glass of champagne. If I know that is on the horizon, that will prevent me from eating dessert and stuffing, potatoes, bread and all that crap. Tony has been very nice about noticing my weight loss on a regular basis so I don't feel self-conscious about bath time.

Good day! We did get about 2-3 inches of snow overnight and this a.m., with ice under the snow. I didn't have much I had to do today, so I probably won't go out until tomorrow.. Tomorrow is jam-packed with social events and errands. Then, Wednesday we head out of town for our casino getaway until Saturday. No bad weather after today thankfully!

Gail, your hotel and bubbly plans (bath AND champagne) sound lovely! I understand what you mean about having to socialize with a large group that aren't all your close friends and family. I am also a very outgoing and social person, but I wouldn't want to be forced to do it. That's why, even though DH and I could go to his sister's or my cousin's house (3 hours away) for holidays, it's all the same as you describe. That's why we just have done our own thing after my mother passed away 13 years ago. Up until then I was obligated to see her for all holidays. Now, we do whatever we want. I do miss having family though.. and that is why I am always bummed during the holiday season.. Done with pity party..

The bacon steak came out very good. I think I'd prefer a little less thick since I like my bacon crispy. It's almost like jerky to eat it the way I like it! I had a small sandwich since I nibbled on things during the afternoon..

Judy, I love that you and your DH do your own thing. Be happy that you two love each other's company so much that being together is always fun whether it's a holiday or not! A happy marriage/happy relationship is a genuine gift from God!

Yay, one more day before I have the week off! I am excited. Tomorrow, I am getting the rest of the shopping done for Thanksgiving -- just have to pick up the fresh shrimp and some lemons. I am also going to clean the house, exercise at the gym and get my nails done. Thinking of making a nice dinner for Tony but don't know what to make. I will have to browse some low carb menu ideas!

Last night we had turkey burgers and salad for dinner -- one of my favorite low carb mainstays. I read on the Low Carb Lobby that hamburger rolls from the Great Low Carb Bread Company are supposed to be terrific and only 16 carbs per roll. Has anyone tried them? I want to order them but may wait until we get back from Connecticut. I guess you have to freeze or refrigerate them as soon as you receive them and we won't be back until Friday afternoon. On our way home, we are stopping in my home town in southeastern Massachusetts to put a wreath on my parents grave on Friday. We may also get our Christmas tree then too. So I may not arrive home until noon or 1:00 or so.

Hope everyone has a great day today!

Judy, good to see you. I will surely keep you posted on the rolls. We had our favorite Asian restaurant make a low carb meal for us -- chicken satay, szechan spiced chicken and sauteed pork in spicy chili oil. Low carb/high fat/good protein and all made without added sugar, flour or cornstarch.

Hey ladies -- so nice to hear from you Amber and MJ. I hope you guys had a GREAT holiday! I have been a bad dog these past two days. I did not intend to cheat on Thanksgiving but I had did -- but only a bit. I cheated worse on Friday and hope to get right back on plan today.

Here is what happened. We started out Thanksgiving with the best of intentions. Woke up at 5:00 AM for a our trip to Connecticut and had only coffee. We arrived at Tony's brother and sister in law's beautiful home by 9:30 and went for a long walk in the freezing cold. Then we went back to the hotel, took showers and changed and went back there at 2:00 PM after only drinking water, no food. Played with their adorable daughters -- one of them is our god daugher and she is the cutest child to ever walk the earth and found out we weren't eating until 5:30.

At 4:00 PM, they put out the hors d'oeuvres we brought: shrimp cocktail, veggies and dip, mixed nuts, huge cheese plate, charcuterie and hummus and pita chips. I had one glass of white wine, two shrimp, small amount of veggies, a small handful of nuts. Doing well so far. We end up by not eating the Thanksgiving meal until 7:30 PM. I know, I know -- I should have planned better! They only had one legal veggie -- green beans -- and the rest was potatoes, stuffing, cornbread, gravy and sweet potatoes with roasted marshmellows on top. So I tried to fill up on turkey and green beans but did have one tablespoon of stuffing and one tablespoon of sweet potatoes. I did NOT eat dessert.

Still, I was pissed at myself because I could have done better. By the time we got back to our hotel, it was 10:30 PM at night and Tony was not feeling well. He ate more than I did and he is not used to eating rich/carby food after being on low carb for so long. He had bad heartburn and his stitches from his surgery were killing him -- so naturally I am terrifed. So of course we skipped the bathtime and champagne. Stayed awake for a while and watched the Ravens versus Steelers until Tony felt better. After a few Tums, he went to sleep at midnight and so did I. Too bad we had to be up at 5:00 AM to go to the South Shore in Massachusetts to put the wreath on my parents grave. There is a ton of Black Friday traffic around here so we had to get on the road early.

We finally got back to our house at noon and we did not feel like cooking. Tony wanted a sandwich so I caved and made us turkey sandwiches which we had with one handful of potato chips each (we stopped at the market on the way home and agreed we would do one more cheat and that would be the end. So I got one single serving bag of chips and one single serving ice cream bar to at least reign in the amount of what we were doing to eat). We vowed to go back to low carb today. That was all we had to eat -- the sandwich, chips, one bite of the ice cream bar. I went to bed super early yesteday to avoid eating any more! Isn't that pathetic?

I have our meal planned out for today: grilled chicken, green beans and pepita squash which is super low carb (pepita squash is only 3 carbs per serving). Please wish me luck -- I don't want to sabotage myself again, like I always do.

Gail, you didn't do to bad, AND you know how it made Tony feel bad and you guys are getting back on track. Don't beat yourself up. I stayed low carb but had 23net carbs from eating SO much. I also had a BK burger without bun Tuesday before TG and that did me in - gained 4lbs...ugghh.. I will never eat fast food ever again. Even though it says 100% beef, there is something so totally wrong with them or at least how they effect me.

Have you ever tried/made the no carb ice cream? I need to get some ice cube trays so I can try it and see if it is delish or not.

Oh Gail, I will make you feel better, I was eating like a high carb champ! OMG stuffing pie, you name it I shoved it in! I feel terrible I feel like a fat ball of stuffing, so this is it, I said to Tony all the leftovers must go, you must eat the remaining pie, and I am going to the store today to get veggies and meat and get myself back on track, I am doing the Shred every morning if it kills me, I must get back to exercising like I used to, ughghg!!! You are not that far off track, you will be fine!

Hope Tony is OK now?

Amber, thanks for your insight! Yes, Tony is better now. He just ate too much rich high carb food on Thanksgiving. We've been doing low carb since Aug. 19, rarely cheating, and eating the right amounts of healthy clean food. He had second helpings at Thanksgiving and ate two desserts -- so he got really bad heartburn!

I was somewhat more controlled on Thanksgiving but ate junk the next day, which was really dumb. We are now back on track. What a relief. But gosh, once you start eating carbs again, it is hard to stop!

We are getting right back on the low carb horse, fixing grilled chicken, fresh green beans sauteed in fresh garlic and ginger and roasted pepita squash (this particular squash is very low in carbs). We eat this meal often as it is very comforting but super healthy and low carb. We are going to eat our main meal early while watching the Patriots play the Houston Texans. Laura, don't know if you are watching but your Texans are a great team! Amber, I know you are watching your beloved Eagles today too!

Hope everyone is having a great Sunday. My Christmas shopping is done except for two gifts and wrapping. I wanted to go get our tree today but Tony did not feel well so we will go sometime this week. I already bought the ornaments, lights and tree skirt -- we are going for a seaside tree this year with seashell ornaments, blue ocean-colored ornaments, blue and white lights and ocean-themed tree skirt.

Hope everyone has a great day and a wonderful week ahead! xo xo xo

Hi Gail and friends,

Just checking in after our time away. Don't beat yourself up Gail! It was a holiday, and you couldn't control what was being served. And then the next day... well it's hard when traveling. I was going to fast on our way home from St. Louis Saturday, but after 3 days of indulging in food and drink, it just wasn't going to happen. Then, I was going to fast today to punish myself for not fasting Saturday. Changed my mind once again and decided just to start my week tomorrow with my normal Monday fast. So, I'm mad at myself and am sitting here eating chips..not good.

I am glad you are back in control on your plan today... and I'll be back on mine tomorrow. And the world will go on and we'll be good! Minor blips!

Hope Tony is feeling better!

Good morning friend!

Checking in on you, and I'd say you did great! One of my favorite sayings is "don't let perfect get in the way of great" and I think that trying to be perfectly low-carb on a high-carb holiday is fraught with danger. The temptations lurk everywhere, and it is so easy to succumb. So, a pat on the back to you for doing so great overall for the entire weekend!

I am so jealous of your tree and Christmas prep. Our tree is somewhere in the garage and I had the best of intentions to get it out this weekend. Didn't happen. Your tree sounds beautiful! I have a friend in Fairhope, Ala., who does the most gorgeous sea-side tree every year. It is magical.

I hope you have a fantastic week and that the Monday back from the long weekend isn't too terrible!

Oh Gail I love the ocean themed tree, I did my gold and leopard ornament tree in the family room, I love theme trees, our bedroom is a gray blue so I did a white artificial tree with silver and ice blue ornaments, Bobby got an Eagles and Phillies tree, Autumn got a cool tree it is like iridescent, I would love to put up one more in my dining room, but I think it is enough! I collect angles and santas, like the ones that stand, I have angles in every room, Tony said the one in our bedroom looks like a drag queen, LOL

Judy, I am so glad you had a great time in St. Louis. Is it hard getting back on plan? I found it to be a bit challenging. Laura, you must have so much FUN shopping for Shelby. We spent some time with Tony's nieces who are ages 4 and 7 over Thanksgiving and they are just at the cutest age.

Julia, it is so great to see you back -- I missed you! I was thinking of you with the Alabama/Auburn game -- wow, what a game! I still love Nick Saban -- he's the man. How are you doing? You must be really busy at work. I hope this season is a good one for you. It looks like you continue to lose weight even though you are working 12 hour days.

Amber, I love your trees! I love that Bobby has an Eagles/Phillies tree. Your house must look fantastic -- I like to be festive over the holidays. It only happens once a year so we might as well enjoy it. And the Drag Queen Angel - LOL!

Well, it is Monday morning and I am ready to hit the road and get to work. My company shuts down the week between Christmas and New Years -- so I just need to get through the next three weeks. We are open on Monday, 12/23 but shut down on Christmas Eve so I will have a good long break. We are going to Tony's family in northern Maine on Christmas Eve and will come back that Friday. Tony's dad will come with us and stay in Boston for two nights. He hasn't seen his two granddaughers (Tony's nieces from Connecticut - where we just were for Thanksgiving) in a long time because Tony's brother/sister in law don't want to make the 8 hour drive to Maine.

So Boston is halfway between CT and Maine so we got his brother/sister in law a nice hotel suite for Saturday night 12/28 as a Christmas gift. That way,Tony's dad can see them and the kids and no one has to make a long drive. We are planning all kinds of fun activities for that day -- visits to the Children's Museum, Aquarium, Museum of Science, etc. I think we will go to Morton's in Boston for dinner that night -- an upscale steakhouse that is also kid friendly and right near their hotel. Eating at Morton's will make it easier for me to stay on low carb. I just want all of these holiday food temptations to go away!

Hope everyone has a GREAT week! xo xo xo

You are a trooper. I have not bought one gift yet. I am still struggling to get the bills paid for December before I start. Work has just been too slow for too long unfortunately. Your tree sounds awesome! Are you going to post a picture??

"Back at it" Monday for everyone! All your trees and holiday plans sound just lovely! Gail, it's nice to look forward to a break isn't it!?

Gail, I was being a bit nosey and checked out your profile. All I can say is WOW - what a wonderful transformation! Has it been ALL on low carb? So many people regularly stall or eventually gain on LC. What's your secret? Keep up the great work!

Fasting day for me today.. sippin on some Chai Tea and planning my very limited meals for the day. Catcha later!

I cannot seem to post pics to this site for some reason. I wonder what I am doing wrong?

Laura, thank you for saying such nice things. I really love Tony's family and I am so glad that they have always accepted me right from the get-go. They are very family oriented and close which I really like.

Judy, you are such a sweetheart. I really don't have any great secrets to low carb except for the things that I really believe in which are:
*Make low carb meals that are delicous and that you really enjoy. Loving the food you eat is key!
*Exercise is not as important as sticking to the eating plan but it still helps. Try to pick things that you like doing -- I take long walks along the coast with Tony or do the elliptical while I watch TV and do free weights.
*Once you get into the groove of your plan, it does become second nature. Focus on how GOOD you feel when you eat on plan and that will help you stay the course.
*I also believe in the power of visualization. If you can picture in your mind how good you will look as a size 8 or size 6, keep that image in your head and let that be a guiding force.
*I am always trolling for new recipes and ways to make low carb interesting.

Judy, you are doing GREAT on JUDDD and you will continue to lose more weight. Please have faith. I believe the weight loss Gods are on your side!

Lisa, I hope work picks up for you -- I am sure it will get busier as we get closer to the holidays. People love to stop and go out for lunch or dinner while they are shopping. And you are so lovely, kind and professional that I imagine you must get great tips too. Have faith and it will pick up. At least in the meantime, you are doing fabulously well with your low carb plan and adopting a new lifestyle. You have made GREAT use of your time.

So hard coming back to work on a gloomy, dreary Monday but it could always be worse. The thought of Christmas around the corner makes me happy!
