Yeah Walgreens or CVS I know carries it you can buy it on line too! Tony's brother had his chest opened with his last surgery, and his scar looks amazing, and he did nothing! He was in terrible pain too and within 10 days he was a lot better, it does take some time, but he will heal! Give him lots of pineapple too bromeliein in that helps heal tissue.

Hang in there Gail! You are a real gem and I'm sure Tony is so grateful to have you in his life! He needs to take you on a tropical vacation when he is 100% recovered! That would be something for him to research on the computer while recuperating ! It would get both your minds on something else......

Thanks Susan -- you are fabulous and insightful, as always. Ladies, I need your help. I am falling off the deep end. I need to get back to strict low carb -- under 20 grams -- but I have given myself free reign to eat for the past week and I am on the verge of gaining back all the weight I lost the previous four weeks. I hate it when I do that to myself -- one step forward, two steps back.

I've been making and bringing Tony everything he is craving, dinners like:
*Steak tips, salad greens with feta/toasted walnuts/cranberries/feta, grilled french bread and steamed broccoli
*Grilled chicken (marinated in homemade honey mustard), mixed salad like the one above, sweetpotato fries, cannoli
*Takeout like his favorite pizza

I've got to crack the whip for both of us!

Give yourself a break Gail! My goodness with everything that you've been through, you deserve some down time! It sounds like you know that your brain is telling you it's time to be more conscience of your choices. You will correct your eating behavior little by little for both of you. We all have our ups and downs with this WOE. I know I certainly do! Go shopping for lots of fresh veggies and luscious meat and seafood! I love to go on-line and look at pictures of low carb recipes for inspiration.

Confession: I ate a bunch of Chips Ahoy last night and I knew it was wrong! Paying for it today, but it will disappear. I can be good for several weeks and then have an indulgence every now and then and gain a pound!

You know what to do and you will do it !!!!

Gail you will get back to it, you are in a lot of transition now with Tony coming home and getting settled and you want to spoil him, you will get it together, I think its going to be a rainy weekend so plenty of time to plan!

Susan! I was thinking about you this weekend and hoping your niece's beautiful wedding did not get rained out! I am glad you guys had a wonderful time!

Dani, so nice to hear from you. How is the new diet plan going? I am dying to try what you are doing and would love to know how you like it so far.

Amber! Are you so excited about the good news on your home? I love how you and Tony had a nice little getaway over the weekend -- good for you! Couples really need that alone time and you two are so happily married -- so it is perfect!

We had a rough few days over the weekend. Only Tony's vascular surgeon can prescribe the painkillers he is supposed to take every three hours. He ran out (as expected, not because he was taking too many) on Friday and I could not get the vascular surgeon on the phone because he was in surgery all day. On Monday, the visiting nurse was due to come to our house to take Tony's 200 staples out and he really needed painkillers for that. So long story short, Tony stopped taking any painkillers on Saturday and Sunday and stuck to Tylenol -- which really doesn't cut it when your insides have been cut up and you have a huge two foot long scar that has not healed yet. Needless to say, poor Tony was miserable all weekend.

Fortunately, the staples came out okay and I was able to get the prescription filled yesterday. I had to drive over to Mass General and pick up the prescription as they don't phone in orders to the pharmacy anymore. I totally understand the need for this as I know people abuse painkillers -- but it is totally unfair for the people who REALLY need them and who don't abuse them and take them as per doctor's orders.

Sorry for my rant! I am eager for the day when he is well again. He was always such a happy, energetic and very affectionate person, particularly with me. I know I sound really selfish but I miss him and I miss us -- if you know what I mean!

Thanks for listening guys!

Boy Gail you have had a trying time! Things have got to start looking up very soon. You seem to be handling it well though. Sending
your way. My husband has been under the weather for 2 days. We spent 1/2 of today in the ER. He is being treated for Vertigo. CAT Scan came back okay, but he has to have an MRI also. On meds, feels a little better.

Okay, I am officially BACK on strict low carb -- under 20 grams of carbs per day -- and walking for at least five miles in the morning. Wish me luck -- I am going to need it!

Okay, so far, so good. Here is what I ate today:

Breakfast: one egg -- scrambled in butter, coffee with HWC and splenda
Snack: sparkling water, handful of almonds
Dinner: steak tips, fresh green salad (with cucumber, tomato and a little bit of red onion tossed in homemade blue cheese dressing), steamed broccoli that was sauteed in butter, fresh garlic and a touch of romano cheese, glass of red wine
Night snack: nursing a cup of tea

I forgot how much I enjoyed cooking and eating a good low carb meal. First of all, I really love cooking. Second, it feels good to eat something healthy that you prepared -- knowing that I am really taking care of me and Tony.

Please give me the support I need to stay strong on this. I don't know -- when I get the slightest bit sad, depressed, lonely, insecure, feeling badly about myself, I feel like EATING. I used to be able to nip the bad feelings in the bud in my 20s, 30s and early 40s but as I got older, it seems like my resolve is weaker.

Thank you Scalestepper! I really appreciate that vote of confidence! I just got back from my walk this morning too so I was thrilled to see your post. I already have chicken marinating in a low carb marinade for dinner tonight. Plan to have that with either asparagus or sauteed zucchini and salad. Fingers crossed that I can stick to this!

You can do it, Gail! I know for me, it's all about the planning. If I plan, I'm fine. It's when I don't plan well that I can't do it.

Really proud of you for going on the walk!

Thanks Julia. It is HOT here it Boston today -- it is supposed to reach 100 degrees! I ordered a cheese omelette and an iced coffee from the restaurant next door to my office. This will be my breakfast and lunch. As you know, I am a notorious meal skipper -- usually I skip both breakfast and lunch but not anymore.

I now skip meals by design. I discovered that the best way fr me to maintain a loss is to eat a late breakfast and skip lunch. If I get hungry a cup of coffee with cream is enough.

I seriously considered intermittent fasting, but I think my way works better for me.

(I guess what I'm saying is that I don't think meal-skipping is as bad as sometimes we think it is )

Julia, that is good to hear. After I had that omelette yesterday, I didn't feel so great -- just felt a little uncomfortably full. That being said, I was NOT hungry until about 7:30 PM or 8:00 PM when I ate dinner last night.

We had a good dinner last night: grilled chicken, asaparagus, salad with homemade blue cheese dressing. I really have to get back on the low carb program this time and just stick to it. I know it is hard but it will be worth it. I keep thinking of all the good things that a low carb diet gives you beyond weight loss -- like increased energy, better sleep, thinner face (my face gets noticeably thinner on low carb -- less bloating).

Amber, so HAPPY for you! That is such good news. Once you are moved in and settled, it will be so much easier to hop back on low carb -- and even better that you can go back to your old gym! You are going to have a great summer in your new home!

I don't think you have gained much weight from your pictures -- you still look terrific. I just need to get on low carb and stay on it. When I go off of it -- even for a few days -- I gain so much weight back. It really is very all or nothing for me.

Yesterday was a good food day for me. I had coffee with HWC in the morning and I brought in some grilled chicken for lunch. For dinner, we got take out from our favorite Italian place that made low carb versions of our favorite dishes. I love ziti, broccoli and chicken in olive oil and garlic -- so they made it without ziti -- just sauteed chicken and broccoli in oil and garlic. It is so good and I did not even miss the pasta! I had a small side salad with sugar free Italian dressing and a glass of white wine.

Today, I woke up and my Ketostix were dark purple -- so that is a good thing! Nice to enjoy food and still get into Ketosis! Wishing everyone a GREAT day today!
