Thanks Jes! Hope you are doing well. I just got back from the hospital and Tony is doing better! He was able to talk for a bit so it was great to kiss him and hold his hand. The meds kicked in so he had to drift off to sleep.

I am happy to report that I am still in ketosis even though last night I really messed up. I did not eat anything all day expect for a half of a turkey sandwich in a low carb wrap and by 10:00 PM I was ravenous. So I ate some of the stuff I got for Tony's dad (who is staying with us). I hate a small bagel and two chocolate chip cookies washed down with two glasses of white wine. Gross, I know. I have not eaten anything today except for coffee so I tested my urine at 4:00 PM and the sticks were purple. Thank God. I was expecting a very negative reading.

I am going to get some dinner soon for us and I will stick to low carb!

Hope everything is having a GREAT Sunday!

Just had a great dinner and stuck to plan! We have a really fabulous authentic Italian restaurant nearby and I often get takeout from them. Because we are regulars, they make a low carb version of my favorite dish -- chicken romano. They sautee chicken breast with big juicy mushrooms in a pink sauce -- homemade marinara with a touch of cream. I got this with a grilled portobello mushroom stuffed with sauteed tomatoes, yellow peppers and fresh basil.

I got Tony's dad manicotti, shrimp scampi and garlic bread and did not cheat! Yay!

It always feels good when you can resist the food temptations that you love!

Gail!!!
I have not been on here in weeks, and I was thinking of you for some reason the last few days and this was the first thread I went to, now I know why! So sorry to hear about Tony's surgery but so glad he came through!!! I know how stressful and trying this is, but he is going to be fine with his best nurse by his side! Getting this surgery behind him will hopefully allow him to move on and get on the mend! Praying and thinking of you!!!!!! Just take one day at a time!! Hugs sweetie!!!!

Amber! It is great to hear from you! How is Nan? Is she home yet? I hope so. Thanks for your prayers and good wishes. Tony is in Intensive Care but I found that he will be moved out of the ICU by Wednesday. So onward and upward!

Yeah for getting out of ICU!!!!!!!! Thinking of you! Yes Nan is home at my aunts, thrilled to not have to drive to the nursing home every night! It is a little scary with her home, but it is what it is her odds of falling at home again are 85% I figure God brought her through all this for a reason, so all we can do it cherish every minute!!!!!!!

Good Morning my Lovelies! You guys are so nice to check in with me -- love all of you! He got moved into a regular hospital bed and is out of the ICU! There is a slight chance I could even bring him home this weekend which would be great!

His family is finally gone -- they were staying with me for the past week, since last Thursday. I love his family but truthfully they were driving me crazy towards the end of the week. I know that is an awful thing to say but I like peace and quiet when I get home from a long day of work. I went back to work on Wednesday.

I also cheated on the diet last night -- boo. A girlfriend that lives nearby took me out for dinner when I got home from the hospital late last night. She was like "you need to do something for you" and I agreed. So late last night, we went to this little seaside restaurant (the one I mentioned earlier that serves old-fashioned New England type food). I had a icy cold vodka gimlet and lobster casserole --OMG, so good. I did not get dessert or eat bread but I had the casserole with a salad on the side. I checked and I am still in ketosis! It is a light pink ketosis but ketosis nonetheless.

I need to get back on track on plan. I know I will but I have been so vulnerable, stressed and sad this past week that I figured I would cut myself some slack.

Susan, Julia, Jes, Amber -- THANK YOU SO MUCH for checking in. Wishing you guys an awesome weekend too xo xo xo!

Great news! You are right to cut yourself slack. It is your job to take gentle care of yourself. You still made healthier choices while providing yourself with the companionship and time to decompress.

I think the most important thing to focus on right now is knowing you can trust yourself to take of yourself in whatever way you need right now (healthy ways of course).

Trish, you are so right. Thanks for the insight. Sometimes you just need a small break -- and taking that small break is what prevents a giant binge or going completely off the rails, which I did not do (but wanted to do at times). I had high carb food in the house for Tony's dad -- bagels, english muffins, chocolate covered graham crackers, oatmeal chocolate chip cookies -- all things that I love to eat when I am not low-carbing. I could feel them calling my name which was awful!

Good for you Gail! You needed that break! Don't think twice about it!

I don't like family over-staying their visits either !!! Love my quiet solitude whenever and however I can get it.

Thank goodness Tony is doing so well ! I wouldn't rush getting him home though...it will wear YOU out nursing him back to his full self. Just my two cents worth!

Susan, you are so right. I can't rush him coming home -- I just miss him terribly. And I will get worn out nursing him because I have to work full time too!

Isn't it nice to have quiet and solitude every now and then? I got up early this morning and right now I am sipping a strong cup of coffee and getting caught up on my favorite TV shows like Mad Men, Nashville, and others. Very relaxing. I am going out for a walk soon and then getting my hair colored before I go to the hospital.

Hope everyone has a great Saturday!

I am so glad you are taking good care of yourself! Tony will appreciate it, too, and I bet you will look so glamorous after you get your hairs did! And I think you have inspired me to go on a walk before I work today. I didn't yesterday and feel guilty.

Julia, I just got back from my walk -- it is HOT out. Make sure you go now (or after 4:00 PM) when it is not so hot! Right now, I am enjoying a very cold iced tea and lukewarm shower before I go to the hair salon!

Lovely Ladies -- I just brought Tony home! He is awfully sore and in pain but at least he is home! And guess who is now stopping by? His Dad and sister will be here in about an hour. They are on their way from Connecticut where they were visiting Tony's brother (Tony's nieces were in a ballet recital).

He is resting on the couch, watching golf (what else is new)? He asked for grilled hot dogs and salad for his welcome home dinner. So now I have to go clean everything up before they stop by!

Amber, I know what you mean about deviation from routine -- as a fellow Virgo, I love my routine and get cranky when I have to make changes to it -- LOL!

Thank you to everyone who has offered me support during this trying time. You guys have been great and I am very grateful!

Thanks guys! I am taking the day off from work today because Tony still has mobility issues plus the visiting nurse is going to show me how to take care of his scar, which is huge. It is a rainy miserable day here in Boston. Hope all is well where you are!

Gail, I am so happy for you that Tony is home and on the mend. It is good that you are also taking some time for a little beauty pampering for yourself.

Keep up the good work with not eating too many carbs. It can be really hard when stress is high but it looks like you are doing pretty good.

Enjoy the day off as much as possible.

Hi Frankie and Danielle! My gosh, Frankie, you are so beautiful. I mean, you are seriously Hollywood beautiful -- you look like a very young Candice Bergen. Have you ever seen photos of her from the late 1960s or 1970? That is who you remind me of!

Dani, so good to see you! You look as wonderful as ever too. And if we are matching celebrities to avatars, you are a cross between Catherine Zeta Jones and J.Lo. I love both of them so I mean that as a total compliment.

Anyhoo, today was fine but we are eating 100% healthy as of tomorrow. I wanted to indulge Tony just a bit with small portions of his favorite meals because he lost so much weight in the hospital. He was not able to eat solids for about 5-6 days. When he got home yesterday, he was craving grilled hot dogs, potato chips and a fresh green salad. So yesterday, he had only one grilled dog with yellow mustard on a grilled bun, one cup of chips and two cups of dark leafy salad greens with scallions, celery and tomoto topped with olive oil and lemon. I know that meal is not ideal. When the visiting nurse came by and I reluctantly told her the meal, she said to me "Oh, honey, you can do better than that." Tears sprang in my eyes and I said "I know but I wanted to indulge him just a little because he is in excruciating pain.

She said "Okay, one more day of comfort food in small portions and then I want him on the wagon." That means fruits and veggies, yogurt, tons of water, fresh herbs & spices and certain carby veggies/fruits like sweet potatoes, carrots, melon, bananas, and things like beans/legumes, peanut butter, almonds, etc.

So for tonight, I made a nice simple dinner: grilled shrimp and scallop skewers with three different types of homemade salsa (mango salsa, spicy salsa, pico de gallo), fresh green salad, homemade guacamole and a small (one cup) serving of sauteed brown rice and spicy black beans. I also gave him some fresh cherries and a cup of lemon zinger tea for dessert. I think he is getting better slowly but surely.

In the meantime, I need to hop back on the Induction Bandwagon before I lose it!

Oh Gail I know you are wearing yourself out with stress and worry!!!! Don't be afraid of the scar it will heal well, take it from me I got a ton of scars, they look red and terrible now but in a few months you will be amazed! When the time comes, I like Bio Oil for scars, and then plain old cocoa butter or coconut oil do a great job, better than scar creams!
You let him indulge in his goodies, and there is nothing wrong with that, now he can eat healthy! Don't beat yourself up, you are doing everything you can to make him comfortable! Hugs!!!

Thanks Amber! And thank you for the advice on the scar! I have coconut oil at home but I will have to get Bio Oil. Can you get that at the drugstore or is that something you buy online? I feel so badly for him -- he is still in so much pain -- but the doctor said that the first week is the worst and then it gets better!
