I've exercised everyday since Thursday . . .
I'm in moderate ketosis . . .
I've lost any weight this week . . . All I can say is that it might be that I'm losing inches but it's not showing on the scale yet. I'm pretty outta shape, so my muscles being stimulated this week might be causing an equalizing and that's why the scale isn't showing anything.

Well, well, well... look who's back! Oui, c'est moi!

I met with my new cardiologist today, and found him to be totally full of himself, or, to be more direct, an arrogant a**. His demeanor from the time he walked into the room until he sailed out was unbelievable. Let's see if I can make this short... not sure I can.

He walks in and offers his hand, but does not introduce himself, does not address me, and doesn't even really look at me. He glances at my medical records (online) and then says I need to lose weight. (Genius! I wish I'd thought of that before now!) Then he asks if I eat breakfast (I've read his book, and in it he declares that most overweight people do not eat breakfast) and I tell him yes, I do eat breakfast. I told him that this morning I made chia seed pudding - all healthy, organic, nothing artificial. He replies that I should have toast or an English muffin with peanut butter. I told him that I can't eat wheat and I do not eat peanut butter. (The wheat part is in the medical records that he was looking at.)

Then he tells me that I should buy buffalo sticks because they are low in fat. I ask if they have nitrites and nitrates, and he admits they probably do. I tell him that I don't eat those, either. Then he says not to eat bacon, but to buy Canadian bacon instead. I remind him that it also has nitrites and nitrates, and maybe sugar. He admitted that was true.(Also high sodium, not good for kidneys, but I didn't mention that.)

Then he told me to go to Costco and buy spinach wraps and tomato wraps. I reminded him that I can't have wheat, but he replies "But they have spinach and tomatoes in them." I replied, "They also are wheat-based." (I know this because I WANTED to buy them and read the ingredients.) Finally, he told me to buy Atkins shakes for quick meals, but I told him I don't use artificial sweeteners (for like the 4th time) and he said they were still the best protein drink out there. Maybe he was frustrated with me, but I certainly was frustrated with him! He listened to NOTHING I said.

Oh - he said that I was "big-boned" like his mother. Now, there is nothing wrong about being big-boned, but I am not! I am less than 5'4" tall, have a very small frame, tiny wrists and tiny ankles. I am just FAT, and I told him that. He shook his head and repeated that I am big-boned.

The only good things that came out of this visit were my blood pressure (taken BEFORE I met him, LOL!) which was fantastic, and the fact that he doesn't want to see me for another 6 months. Fine with me, because I'm not sure I want to see him again ever. Oh, he DID say that I can go back on Atkins, but he wants me to do a low-fat version of it. (Not happening folks. The fat makes it work!) But he also gave his blessing for me to do HCG, and I looked up all that it entails and what the dangers are. Nope - won't be doing that! I even reminded him about my kidney failure, and he saw nothing wrong with me doing it. The warnings clearly talk about the danger to kidneys.

At one point he stopped and asked, "Now, have you ever had a physician talk to you about nutrition like this before?" like he was some sort of amazing wonder-doctor because he did. Well no, most of them have nothing to say about nutrition. But I did have a run-in once with a doctor with as much arrogance as this fellow had, and that was when I was working at a hospital. And our youngest son's neurologist, when our son was a baby, was also pretty arrogant. I think my doc today was wanting a pat on the back, but I wasn't sure what to say.

He didn't listen to any of my questions, couldn't bother to hear what was on my list of things I wanted to ask, and actually walked out while I was talking to him, which was how I figured my appointment was over.

Right now I do plan to go back on Atkins, at least for now. I'm not sure I trust his opinion, because my nephrologist, other cardiologist and nutritionist all said "no." I just don't know what else to do, since low carb is all that has worked for me in the last 11 years. I do know it will be more challenging to follow since I stopped using artificial sweeteners, but I have to try.

Here's what I've decided... for now, Atkins, but no artificial sweeteners and more veggies. Also going to try to keep track of my protein, and ask my nephrologist what level she is comfortable with me having.

So, last night was probably my 7th or 8th in a row without enough sleep. Each day I get up miserably tired, some times try to go back to sleep but I don't. With lack of sleep one of the top reasons I am having heart and kidney issues, I really need my sleep. So today I went back to bed, listened to most of Daily Audio Bible, and finally fell asleep. I woke up just before noon. Yay me! Now, I don't want sleeping til noon to be a habit, but today I needed it. I feel great.

At 8 am I had a stick of string cheese. Guess that was breakfast.

12:45 was lunch then: an omelet with 2 eggs, 1/4 cup cheese, 1/4 ground beef, 1/2 cup mushrooms, power greens (kale, spinach and some other green - can't remember), onions and hot sauce. I cooked this in ghee (clarified butter) that I bought from Trader Joe's. Worked better than butter because it doesn't scorch or burn, and it tastes fantastic.

I am making chicken broth for a recipe of creamy zucchini soup for dinner. It called for canned broth, but I'm sure the sodium levels are way too high for me, so I'm making my own broth. We'll also have a big salad, and I'm not sure what protein we'll have.

Hmmmmph.... Adding to what I had yesterday, but it's not pretty: in addition to what I mentioned above, I also caved and had a "Kind" bar and about 5 gluten-free pretzels. I'm not going to freak out over it. Up til now, those items were okay, and at least the Kind bar is a healthy cheat, if there is such a thing. Nothing artificial in it - just fruit and nuts and in this particular bar, cinnamon.

I probably haven't eaten enough yet today, but I did start early to get my metabolism moving. So far I have had about 2 ounces of chicken and a cup of "Bulletproof Tea" (which I am sure is not as yummy as bulletproof coffee that Monet has!) Oh - and three cashews.

And, as I write, I just opened a package of string cheese and am about to nosh on that. I brought it up to my office with me, knowing full well that I wouldn't bother to go back downstairs when I get hungry (or don't get hungry, but know I should eat something!) I also brought up a big bottle of water with lemon juice. (LOVE it!)

Lunch may be some more of the creamy ginger zucchini soup I made yesterday. It took awhile to make, but it was absolutely worth it! It was made from homemade chicken broth, ginger, coriander, onions, garlic and zucchini. You saute' the spices in coconut oil first, then put the chopped zucchini in it and coat it well. Then add the broth and simmer for an hour. After that it goes into a blender or Vitamix to make it creamy. We had that, plus a big green salad, and dh seemed not to notice that we had no meat with our meal!

Dinner this evening will be grilled veggie kabobs and a Mexican grilled chicken salad, both from Trader Joe's. Since we live on the island and fast food is not available, I am trying to lighten my work load on Saturdays by having pre-made foods available. The veggie kabobs are all ready to plop on the grill, and dh will do that this evening. Almost no work for me at all! I may make my own dressing, since I'm not sure what is in the dressing that comes with the salad.

Okay... lunch was not soup - it was another omelet, similar to yesterday's but without meat.

Sorry I'm late with the update for this week . . . was at a three day convention and had a blast!

I'm up 0.3 pounds this week, which is quite amazing. I didn't eat anything wrong, but the scale jumped up 8 pounds this week for no apparent reason and it took all week long to drop it all again.

I'm going in for hand surgery on Wednesday, so the trauma might affect my weight for next week. We'll see.

I won't be able to post anything for a few weeks, but I'll update as soon as I can.

Sorry about that, but I'm guessing post-op has something to do with that. Hopefully it will whoosh right off soon! How are you feeling other than that?

Glad I finally saw this... we have been off-island for awhile at a family reunion, then came home to company. I'm way behind in emails, posts, etc. so please don't give up on me!

Very discouraged right now in way too many areas of my life. So stressed over family stuff, health stuff, weight stuff, financial stuff and on and on... Our grandson is here right now, but I am insisting that dh and he find something to do away from the house each morning so I can exercise. It worked today- now if they will keep it up and stay away long enough it will help. Difficult because it is so hot outside that they don't really want to leave the house.

I HAVE to do this! It is not an option- it is my life!
