Melle's Sweetheart - please ignore me if you think I am butting in where I don't belong... Your reasons for losing weight are so important (I never was able to conceive and so feel your pain).. I was watching your posts from the beginning. I have fallen off the wagon several times so am not in a position to comment.. BUT, you have not cheated and have been 100% faithful.. You seem to eat basically the same thing every day with little healthful green veggies. Do you take supplements of any kind? I am questioning this because of some initial readings of the book "The Diet Cure" by Julia Ross. Your hormonal balances may not be right.. It is very possible with your limited menu.

I recall you mentioned that "eating clean" meant without eating many veggies which are carbs. That is not clean eating. Clean eating is unprocessed food and organic foods.. without chemicals and additives -which includes diet sodas.

I only mean the best and I hope you will not take this as criticism.. I am so envious of your willpower and dedication.. I just want to be sure that you have all the facts. I don't work in a full time stressful job any longer, so have time to study up on some of this stuff. You are so busy and may not be able to..

Hugs, health, and wishes for everything you are dreaming and hoping for!

Judy

Hi Judy!

Thanks for stopping by my blog and no, I don't think you're butting in at all! The whole reason why I started this thread (that eventually became my blog) was to get information and support from others. I'm always willing to hear anything that anyone has to say!

You're right--I eat almost the same things every day and I eat very little veggies. At first, I did that to get into deep ketosis because I had such strong cravings for sugar. After a month or so when I started to eat veggies again, I found myself over doing them almost every day. The evidence was in my spotty weight loss.

More later...husband is calling. BRB

ARgh..sorry...I was able to edit my post and then I went over the 60 minute limit and I couldn't save what I wrote....

Continued......

I decided to eat vegetables only on the weekend, but I have relaxed on that a bit. I don't eat vegetables every day, but I think I get a varied amount of good vegetables in.

Part of the confusion is that I post my menu in the morning---I always have the same breakfast and lunch, so that is always accurate. For dinner, my protein is always accurate, but since I have to cook for my husband, I usually have a vegetable for him. This week, I ate 1 cup of cubed eggplant (roasted) one night, and a half cup of roasted green beans another night. Tonight I didn't have veggies during dinner, but I did go out for lunch yesterday with my parents and I had a caesar salad with a chicken breast. Since I can't go back and edit my meals later, I often omit the extra veggies or snacks that I eat after dinner.

As far as vitamins go, I take:
A prenatal multivitamin
Folic Acid
1000 mg Vitamin C
Vitamin B complex w/vitamin C
Vitamin D
Potassium
Co-Q-10
Evening Primrose Oil
Maca

I'm told by my doctors that my regular menstrual cycles indicate that my hormones are in sync. I am checked periodically and they are all happy with the results. I HAVE conceived, but I due to PCOS in my past, I had an ectopic pregnancy 3 years ago. I've been trying ever since to conceive again, but there is no explanation for my infertility.

The maca is good for balancing hormones (from what I'm told) and the CO-Q-10 is good for my eggs. I was prescribed both by my fertility specialist.

You're right about my non-clean eating. This may be a matter of semantics---the last time I was a regular here at LCF, "clean" eating meant eating NOTHING off plan. No sugar alcohols, no subtracting fibre, no "low carb treats" and etc. "Clean eating" has evolved to mean something else now and I think I probably confused you with my terminology (I'm out of the loop!)

The one thing I do pride myself on is eating no processed foods at all. We have never eaten pre-boxed meats, prepared foods or canned vegetables. I cook every day. When it comes to organic--I'm not sure I completely buy into the notion that organic food is BETTER for health, overall. I think it's a matter of perspective--people get pregnant and lose weight eating non-organic food, so the empirical evidence shows that it doesn't have all that much bearing on fertility or weight loss. I have a cousin who swears by raw food and nothing that has been genetically modified--she even feeds her 2 year old that way. I'm not sure I'm on board with that---I guess time will tell.

My diet cola isn't a "clean" food, I get that....but right now, it's something I can have and still lose weight--I know this is a drop in the bucket, but I do have decaffeinated cola. One day, I will cut it out of my diet. Baby steps...right now, I'm trying to reduce the 316lbs of bulk that I've accumulated in the past 20 years.

Thanks for taking the time to bring this to my attention--I just may put "The Diet Cure" on my reading list. I've seen that book many times and I always wonder if it's a good read--I think you've just proved that it's worth a read.

Have a great weekend and thanks again for taking the time to comment!

It sounds like you have a good plan! Let me know if you read The Diet Cure and what it may mean to you. I am just curious on someone elses opinion .. I'll let you know the same. I read a few passages already (downloaded it on my kindle) and I think it will be helpful for me. My problem is I think EVERYTHING will be helpful for me but then I don't "do" what I'm supposed to do.. Some kind of emotional blockage I guess. The author claims that our emotional eating really stems from nutrient deficiencies or hormonal imbalances. I believe that is partially true, but MUCH of it is from ingrained messages we received as kids and the "core" beliefs we have about ourselves.. A whole other very long topic.

There is a questionnaire on the website that can help you determine if you may be lacking in certain nutrients or may be out of balance somewhere. You can take the quiz without buying the book.

Keep up the great work honey!! Hugs and blessings!

Thanks, Seabreezes!

I'm trying not to get too excited about the IVF---after all the money, time and effort, I still may not have a baby.

I'm still focusing on my weight loss efforts, primarily!

Day 153

Had another particularly busy day--woke up early, went over to my friend's place to feed her cats then we went to a toy convention and met some iconic Canadian television stars (from Degrassi Junior High--anyone remember that show?)

Had lunch at a great breakfast buffet with my sister and her boyfriend--lots of fun and laughter.

I am happy to say, the afternoon was spent reading, napping and then reading more! AHHHH...just the way I like my Sundays!

Breakfast:
NONE!

Lunch:
2 eggs, over easy
2 pieces of crustless quiche
3 strips of bacon
2 breakfast sausage
1 small slice of roast beef

Dinner:
1 eggplant, roasted
3/4 small onion, roasted
1 diet cola

See everyone--I blogged late, so I can share that I ate a veggie dinner!!! Yay for me!

I love that when you get your drive, you really get it. I mean this for me, too. I learned long ago that if I try to lose weight or become healthier when I don't really feel entirely ready, it's going to be a fight from the beginning. You have to get in the mindset, and you are SO there!

I had girlie issues (PCOS) that made it hard for me to get pregnant. I hate girlie issues, and I know exactly what you mean when you feel sadness over someone else's joy. Amazing things are happening in your life. They are amazing, but will never take the place of what a child could be. I get it. It's hard, but I feel so positive for you!

Hi Bacon Bit! I love your name!

You're so right about getting the "drive" to lose weight. Last year at this time, I was going through fertility treatments and I didn't want to take on ONE MORE thing. I just felt overwhelmed and mostly judged by the people at my clinic because they refused me for IVF--they didn't mind giving me completely pointless IUI treatments, but they were absolutely AGAINST harvesting my eggs because of my weight.

Now that I'm losing weight, I feel stronger and more confident in my choices. When I see the doctor at the new clinic, I can tell him with confidence that I plan to continue losing weight, regardless of how my procedure turns out. I don't know why that's important to me, but it is.

My sister in law is pregnant right now and she's eating what I consider to be the wrong foods--she's really using her pregnancy as a "food holiday". By that I mean, she's going out for big dinners, eating lots of processed food and pretty much gorging on sweets. I can't afford to do that if I get pregnant--my sugar will be through the roof and the extra weight will probably leave me bedridden.

In short, I'm in this for the long haul and my blog is helping to keep me on the straight and narrow.

Thanks again for sharing your story, Bacon...it's always great to know that someone else is walking down the same path!

Day 154

It's Monday, Funday (well, not really...)

It's one of those days when I'm trying to drag out my work so it lasts for the entire day. I've been waylaid by a sick staff member who can't get his work done and in turn, that keeps me from getting a large project finished.

Ah well....I suppose I can browse the net while I'm waiting around.

Breakfast:
2 boiled eggs with black pepper and pink sea salt
1 cup decaf coffee with 5% cream
1 cup of black tea

Lunch:
3 roasted chicken legs
1.5 oz medium cheddar cheese
1 diet soda

Dinner:
1 chicken breast with salsa, cheese and bacon
1 diet soda

Day 155

Tomorrow is weigh in day! I'm curious to see if my losing streak will continue. I've done very well, I think....in 5 months, I've lost slowly, but with no really long plateaus.

We'll see!

This is a short week for us. My husband and I took Friday off. WOO HOO! Should be a lot of fun.

Tonight I'm making something a little different for dinner. On the weekend, I watched one of those extreme restaurant shows and they had a burger made from two portabello mushrooms with melted cheese between them. I immediately thought "low carb grilled cheese". So tonight, I'm going to cook up the mushrooms (probably roast them) then add shredded monterey jack cheese, carmelized mushrooms and a slice of ham and make the "grilled cheese". Hehe..I think they're going to be divine!

Breakfast:
2 boiled eggs with pink sea salt and black pepper
1 cup decaf coffee
1 cup black tea

Lunch:
3 roasted chicken legs
1.5 oz of raclette cheese (it's a Quebec cheese)
1 diet soda

Dinner:
2 portabello mushroom caps w/1 tbsp carmelized onions, 2 slices of ham, cheese
1 diet soda

Day 156

Grumble, grumble, grumble....

I gained 2 lbs from my last weigh in. If I count my unofficial weigh in last Thursday, I gained a whopping 4 lbs.

DAMNIT. DAMNIT to HELL!(as Charlton Heston said in Planet of the Apes)

That's it--enough being angry. I refuse to let this get me down. It's probably because I'm ovulating and I may as well face the fact that a pregnancy is going to put more than 4 lbs on me...so, I have to keep on keeping on and have a good attitude. I'm eating HEALTHY. That's what matters.

Update on my mushroom caps last night--they were delicious! My husband really loved them! We're going to make variations, but I think I'm going to leave them as a weekend meal because they are veggies and a bit higher in carbs.

Breakfast:
2 boiled eggs with pink sea salt and black pepper
1 cup decaf with 5% cream
1 cup black tea

Lunch:
3 roasted chicken legs
1.5 oz raclette cheese (OKA)
1 diet soda

Dinner:
1 trout filet
1 diet soda

It's 7 hours later and I've decided that I'm going to weigh in again tomorrow.

I've been peeing a ton today and I also expelled some waste material which may have some bearing on my 2 lb weight gain.

We shall see......

Day 157

Weighed in today and as suspected, I'm at a new low of 313.4!!! YAY!

I don't know what happened yesterday but I felt bloated and yuck when I weighed myself. After so much peeing yesterday, I knew that my weight gain was all about fluid retention.

Yay me! Pulling up on 45lbs!

Breakfast:
2 boiled eggs with sea salt and cracked pepper
1 cup decaf with 5% cream
1 cup black tea

Lunch:
3 roasted chicken legs
1.5 oz raclette cheese (OKA)
1 diet soda

Dinner:
1 chicken breast with cheddar, bacon and salsa
1 cup of eggplant, roasted
1 diet soda

Good for you and good decision to go with that feeling! I'm in the "I shouldn't have weighed today when I know it's going to be up" boat.

Early Saturday---have to clean up all the construction waste from the basement so the cabinetmakers have room to work. I'm FINALLY cleaning out my garage (it was the catch all space where all the basement stuff went a year ago)....

I guess I should rush and get dressed--lots of things to accomplish today!

Breakfast:
2 fried eggs
4 slices of bacon
1 cup decaf with cream

Lunch:
Don't know!

Day 160

M_S is feeling all tired and worn out today. It must be from lifting so much heavy stuff yesterday. I'm happy to report that the garage is clean and my car is so happy to have his home back. I even tidied the basement up (swept, took out all the garbage) so there's a lot of space for the cabinet makers to work.

Today I'm finishing some side projects---a year end on a set of books and three tax filings. WAAAA! I don't want to do this today! I want to have a ME day!

Ah, well....I'm going to work for a couple more hours then call it a day.

Breakfast:
Omelette made with 1 small onion, 5 grape tomates and 3 eggs
1 cup decaf

Lunch:
1 cup decaf

Dinner:
Probably chicken salad

Breakfast:
2 eggs boiled with kosher salt and cracked black pepper
1 cup decaf coffee with 5% cream
1 cup black tea

Lunch:
3 roasted chicken legs
1.5 oz raclette cheese (Oka)

Day 162

Busy, busy, busy.

Work is crazy--so much to complete by Thursday! Plus, I have income taxes and side projects to finish by next Monday, so it looks like my Friday is going to be all about finishing my "home" work.

On Sunday (Easter) I'm invited to my Aunt's house for dinner. I think I'm going to make a low carb tiramisu that I found on a blog written by a person who used to participate here a lot (Cleochatra). I may just make my cheesecake, as well. Not sure yet.

In order to cut down on my weekend work, I may just do some work at home tonight. Oh joy!

Breakfast:

Hiya Bacon Bit!

My husband's interview went well, but he doesn't want to get his hopes up. I'm REALLY hoping he gets this position because he HATES the job he's in right now. He's been there for 6 years and really needs a change of scenery.

They did say that he would be hearing from the first person who interviewed him "soon"...so what does that mean? I'd love to believe that means they've already chosen him....

He emailed the recruiter last night to thank him for arranging the second interview, but he hasn't heard anything back yet.

Thanks for asking!

How is everything going with you?

Awesome!

Tomorrow is my weigh in day but due to a visit from Auntie Flo, I have a feeling I'm going to be up a few lbs....

Thank you! Do you weigh once a week? I couldn't remember, but it seems that way. I only weigh if I'm home and the time is right, which feels like rarely.

Yes, I do.

I've tried many different strategies---I used to weigh daily, then monthly, then I didn't weigh at all, but in all those cases, I either was discouraged because I gained or discouraged because I didn't lose as much as I thought I should have.

Weekly is a good frequency for me. In the past 5 months, I've learned when to expect a gain, so it doesn't freak me out. Sometimes it pisses me off, but not always.

Day 163

Weighed in and as expected, I gained 2 lbs from my posted stats. I'm going to go wayyyyy out on a limb and say that it's Aunt Flo that caused that gain because she's due to be in town around April 1.

I'm working like a fiend, both at work and at home so I can get all my side projects finished before Easter. I want to be free in April.

Breakfast:
2 boiled eggs with kosher salt
1 decaf coffee with 5% cream
1 decaf coffee at work

Lunch:
3 roasted chicken legs
1.5 oz raclette (Oka) cheese
1 diet soda

Dinner:
1 trout filet
1 diet soda
