Jinny's Journal
Phew... They say the first step is the hardest.
So here we go! I'm new to this WOE but I intend to stick to it. It all started with insulin resistance and kind of snowballed from there. I've discovered I've got a wheat intolerance, and gluten-free has pretty much turned into low carb for me. I used to be at a healthy weight until I went to university where I gained more than 60 pounds ![]() Went on a "diet" and dropped back down to the 140's. And here I am in 2012, where I've gained all the weight right back up to the 210's. My current weight is 201.5 and I'd love to see 145 again. Hoping this journal will keep me on track and accountable. |

Sunday mornings are wonderful... I'm not weighing today.
Yesterday's food choices were: B: omelet with salmon and feta L: sundried tomato and zuchini quiche with green salad D: smoked chicken with green salad and almonds S: 3 chocolate squares (Lindt 70%) ![]() Spent the whole day yesterday out of the house with my sister, I actually thought I might do a lot worse. We had a blast shopping. We'll see what tomorrow brings, hopefully a small loss. Burning to reach my first goal of 196 ![]() |

The weather is so weird today - cold and rainy - it doesn't feel like Spring at all. Good day for reading though, I started with The Low Carb Revolution and I'm nearly halfway through.
Not sure how I feel about my eating today... B: Boerewors sausage and 2 boiled eggs L: 2 Vienna sausages and 2 thick slices cheddar D: If the rain stops we may braai/bbq chicken pieces and steak, I'll probably have tomato we with the meat Managed to avoid the chocolate cake that DBF baked I've also had three cups of coffee today and not nearly enough water. Think I'll go have some right now ![]() |

Weight this morning: 200 on the dot
![]() I didn't have tomato last night, we wrapped mushrooms and cheese in foil and grilled them too. Yum. Breakfast is coffee, egg with radish and salami scramble. Melted a pinch of grated gouda on top. I have two small ramekins with the same egg mix baking in my oven to take to work for lunch. Will decide on dinner later. Mini goal for today - drink more water! |

Looking back at today's eating - feels like another "wobbly" day.
Ate the quiche I packed for lunch, but I think I could have rather had a smaller portion. Had another coffee and a sprite zero. Everybody had cake, I ate 1/6th package Jello fat-free and sugar-free instant chocolate pudding. Better than cake, right? Dinner was mussels (about 65 grams) and a cheese slice. Don't judge me Maybe I need to plan snacks and dinner better? Not sure what to expect from the scale tomorrow morning. |

Confession time!
I have to add to today's food tally. Just inhaled a handful of almonds. Meh. Could it be the sweet Jello that's causing craving/hunger issues? |

Thanks Port_louis
Had a rough day When I got to DBF's house we noticed that one of his dogs was severely injured. It looked like someone had slashed and stabbed him multiple times with a knife. Poor thing. While DBF was at the vet I had to go pick up his kids from their mom's place and since it was already late we got take-out at McD's. Ugh. I had the insides of a chicken foldover and a coke zero. I'm pooped. And worried. Off to bed. |

"Real" life seems to get in the way sometimes.
Sister was in an accident this morning so I took a day off work to help out. Luckily she walked away with only whiplash. Gave her my packed lunch when we got home from hospital so that she could take her pain meds. What I actually ate today was: 1 egg and 2 bacon rashers Almonds 2 viennas, a pickle, a slice of cheese 2 spoons of ff/sf jello Piece of burnt beef stewing meat... 3 coffees Tired ![]() |

Didn't feel like cooking much... So dinner was 2 burger patties and a few pecans.
Wanted to add some veg or salad but I'm not hungry anymore. Need to start exercising again. Eek! |

So after this weekend's free-for-all, the scale says 199.8
Up 2lbs, which is to be expected. Will try my best to shake off what I've gained and inch closer to my goal. This week I will stay away from fizzy drinks and anything sweet. |

198 this morning.
Got to love how it takes me a week to undo a weekend's damage. Port_louis, it happened in Pretoria North. The dog spent a week in Onderstepoort Vetinary Hospital. Been eating "clean" this week. Will keep it up. |

Halfway through our 7-day seaside vacation.
Really need some motivation... Had rice and potato in one mutton curry yesterday. That's the only big mistake so far, methinks. Overindulging in nuts, though. Meh. |

So far been having grilled fish or meat with salad goodies every day.
Eggs for breakfast. Lots of sprite zero and coffee. Too many nuts. Portion control has always been an issue for me. I feel that I'm gaining. Will see exactly how much when I get back home. |

Back from holidays!
For all my sins during the past 7 days I only gained 2.7lbs I thought the damage would be much worse. I did not manage to avoid starchy things all the time, and I flat-out cheated by having a gluten-free toffee waffle with cream. Had lots of yummy seafood and enjoyed some sun on the beach. Now back with a vengeance! |
