WOE: One meal a day CAD style
Start Date: November 1, 2012
I know isn't it amazing how eating only once a day can make you LESS hungry? LOL I love it too for it's simplicity. I eat then I am done for the day! I have been playing with this for about 9 months and slowly whittled down to just eating once a day and it is hard for me to actually eat another meals. I mean some days I do get hungry again and I WILL eat those days but it is low carb for that second meal. My one meal is eaten in an hour (some times just 30 to 45 minutes) and I eat until I am really full then I can easily go the other 23 hours with just water. I know some people think I am nuts but there are many of us who eat like this. Far more than actually post about it. Anyone who has read Carbohydrate Addict's Diet knows that is how Rachael Heller lost 150 lbs! I mean they don't recommend the one meal a day in their books but for some of us we like it better than eating the other low carb meals. I am all for finding what works for YOU! Glad you are doing well with it and keep us posted

MIW

Thanks Carol! I told myself I wouldn't weigh today, and try to go through a whole month without stepping on the scale, but I couldn't help it.....199.2 this morning, but I'm sure a lot of that is due to walking 9 holes of golf last night with no water.

I've been known to self-sabotage though, especially when I have a success in my weight loss. It's a big reason why I haven't been able to maintain a good loss. I celebrate with food. HOWEVER, doing the one meal a day seems to be different....because I KNOW I can celebrate with food--I just have to wait until dinner! Going out for fish fry tonight...and staying food-free until then!

Now's the time when I have to focus on "One day at a time", because that's the only way I will stay out of the 200's!

Well, I made a mistake in stepping on the scale this morning...out of curiousity, since I ate 2 meals on Saturday and Sunday. I'm now "scared straight" from weighing several times a month....I'm going to stick to the beginning of each month! (Plus, having the small meal in the a.m. before the big meals on Sat/Sun may need to be tweaked--we'll see what happens the 1st week of September!)

Yep, staying away from the scale is tough, especially for those of us that long for positive-reinforcement and results. There is no way I'm stepping on the scale this week, as I feel like a beached whale--lots of salty food lately, alcoholic beverages, not enough water, and "girl stuff" going on. My rings are tight on my fingers so I know that's a good sign that I'm probably back in the 200's....Temporarily, of course.

This week looks to be relatively calm--no major projects at work (so far), and it's just me and the dog until my sweetie gets home from working out of town on Thursday. I'm going to see about planting a late crop of kohlrabi either today or tomorrow, and eat to my heart's content on all the veggies I'm getting from my garden! (looks like salads are on the docket for my one meal a day!)

Well, I guess you could say my week has been nothing but calm. Between meetings at work, trying to eat right(and failing miserably), and my dear pup having surgery today, it's been a stressful week. I've also been trying to stop my oral contraceptives this month, after being on them for over 20 years--it's doing a number on my body AND hormones so far. My doc put me on them when I was 17, due to horribly painful cramps...and this month I remember what those cramps were like. I truly felt like staying in bed all day, several days this week. Ibuprofen has been my friend. I'm thinking I might just get back on them after TOM gets here (it's late, as expected--although I'm used to knowing exactly what day and what TIME it usually arrives...that's the great thing about being on The Pill, which I'm sure I will miss if I don't take them anymore).

Ugh.....so anyways, got good news from the vet. Bailey is in the recovery room and is just real sleepy (which is out of the ordinary for a Jack Russell...haha). All went well. Whew.

Oh, I know those cramps! I used to have them myself and still do once every year or two. That's a hard decision whether to stay off the BC or not. I got off a few years ago and have missed the regularity too.

What kind of surgery did pup have? Glad he's recovering nicely.

She had her teeth worked on--it took her 2 days to get back to normal--or at least she's acting as normal. I didn't like seeing her stumbling around and looking helpless. She's going to be 8 in a couple months, and my vet advised that she should be fixed--I never got her fixed because I was hoping to show and/or breed her, but neither of those things happened....so now I'm worried about having her fixed so late--I hear bad things about older dogs not being able to handle the surgery. I don't know what to do regarding that--she goes through heat a few times a year and I know she's miserable during that time, but I don't want to put her through something that she might not be able to recover from.

I don't know anything about spaying an older dog. My two were both spayed at 6 months or so. I'm sure there's some good info out on the internet about that. I hope your vet wouldn't steer you wrong there. I know what you mean about all that - I absolutely hated having any general anesthesia done on my dogs. I'm kind of paranoid about it, for no good reason. I'm glad pup is acting normal again!

Glad I'm not the only one that worries about that stuff, when it comes to pets.

Something strange happened to me yesterday....

I forgot to eat.

Yep....all day.

Of course, I had my green tea in the morning and had generally thought about what I was going to eat for my one meal when I got home from work, and I'm not sure how it happened, but by the time I went to bed I thought to myself... "hmm, I'm kinda hungry..." I don't know if this one-meal-a-day thing is teaching me that I can go much longer without eating and still feel good, but if so I hope it continues.

I did have to eat a couple cherry tomatoes this morning though, just to curb the empty feeling. I'm definitely going to eat my meal when I get home--getting carry-out on the way home.

Whew...been a while since I've been here! I've been going through a lot the past couple weeks, and my eating plan has suffered--not saying that my stress is the sole reason I didn't stick to plan, but that I allow myself to let food soothe me. I need to stop that.

I was referred to a podiatrist for some heel pain, and x-rays show I have Haglund's syndrome--which causes calcium development around the achilles tendon, which severs the tendon. Surgery would consist of removing the bone, reattaching the tendon and anchoring it down with pins. 12 week recovery period.

Nope. Not going to do it. At least not now....I can keep the pain at a more tolerable level by stretching, wearing shoes with no heel, and taking ibuprofen. Dr. said with the weather getting colder, it will be more painful for me....we'll see what happens then.

Work is busy, busy, busy - In the next couple weeks, I will know if I will be managing two security accounts, instead of the one I have. More work for me, but I thrive on it...so I'm hopeful.

So....weigh-in on the 1st was not good. I am back in the 200's. BUT, the good news is that my doctor scheduled me for a 2 month follow-up, challenging me to lose 10 pounds by then. Challenge accepted!!!

Ouch! That sounds just awful. I don't blame you for wanting to postpone surgery - that's quite a recovery period. But I'm sure once you have it done (and get through the healing) you'll feel tons better.

Yeah, I think for right now I can postpone it...It would be nice to just say "Hey, I'm going to take a sabbatical from work and just do it"....but I can't.

Good news is that I found that it's not painful to use the elliptical machine, so I can at least get a good cardio workout--I have less than 2 months to lose 10 pounds. Time to hit it like I own it!

It's funny how my high-heeled sandals feel so much better than tennis shoes nowadays. I'm going to have to put them away and find something else now that the weather is getting cool. Not much out there in terms of fashionable shoes for the office when you need something with no back. I remember when clogs were fashionable, back when I was a child! haha!

I was so crabby and so frustrated with my pain yesterday that I went to bed shortly after getting home from work--good thing with that is I didn't eat anything yesterday...but I'm starving today! Broke my fast with some swiss miss and cream in my coffee this morning, to quell the empty feeling until I can have dinner tonight.

I had a good day yesterday, keeping my evening meal fairly small and lower carb than usual.....THEN I went to bowling and decided to have a couple beers. And peanuts. Well, I guess it could have been worse....

Looking at my food logs I'm seeing way too much carbs and sodium the past few weeks--I need to hone in on that, and shoot for more protein and veggies. I stopped at the store this morning and picked up my surefire way to get more salads in - Litehouse Blue Cheese dressing! That stuff ROCKS! Now I'm really excited for dinner tonight!

I'm enjoying the salads--trying to get more of the leafy-green type rather than iceberg lettuce, because of the nutrients....but I sure do love the iceberg. I loooooove a good Balsamic--usually paired with olive oil for dipping french bread in! Yum! Maybe if I have a good week, I can indulge a little. Or...maybe not. I sure would love to go all out and do Atkins again, but I don't know it seems to be tougher to get started on it. I tell myself I'm going to cut down on carbs...and I do fine for a day, then I tend to talk myself into having carby stuff as a "reward". I need to knock that @#$% off!
