Good morning ladies! I'm so glad we are taking this journey together! Yesterday went great. I had to present an "ethical dilemma" in my Ethics and Compliance (for counselors) class last night. I chose "current technology" as an overall topic so we discussed the possible ethical issues with use of things like facebook, e-mail, text, etc. The teacher said I did a good job so I hope that translates into a good grade LOL! Even at my age I love the feeling I get when I find out I got a good grade. That was the second major presentation for the semester. I'm glad to be getting them out of the way early!

Carbs always under 20. Dr Atkins said if you stay under 20 you will always be in ketoeous .my sticks are deep dark purple.

when I don't eat eggs I more hungry before noon! Hope this helps!
I love seeing what others are doing and this is a great summary. I'm so happy it's working so well for you! I too get hungry if I eat anything other than eggs for breakfast. Back when I was not LC and would try oatmeal or whatever...Um...no.

I will definitely be on the lookout. I usually don't carry my cell phone (no place to put it) but if I walk in the neighborhood again (which I may or may not) I think I will take my fanny pack and if he stalks me I'm calling 911. That is what a lawyer friend of ours suggested I do.

Yes I do! The ketone strips are expensive so I don't use those every day. BG I've been checking a lot to understand what it's doing through the day. My big problem in with FBG first thing in the morning. I would love to get it consistently under 100. I'm close but usually 103 or 107 (today). If I eat a lot in the evening - even if it's all LC (even a lot of fat v. protein) my morning will be even higher. I'm trying not to worry - just collect data and do the best I can. It's not "emergency" high so I will just plan to discuss with my doc in December at my next appointment. I'm going to ask her to order A1C in addition to FBG (which she always orders) this time. I'm glad to have a doctor that will order whatever blood tests I want. She doesn't take any insurance (she's really good and in high demand and doesn't have to!) but she sends for my blood work at a lab that takes my insurance so at least that is low cost and goes to my deductible.)

Hi Jeanie! Hope you are doing well too!

Yesterday was another good day eating wise. Weight is still bouncing between 166 and 168. Over all BG is going down though and that is my goal!!

I'm not 100% sure the high fat thing is going to get me where I want to go weight wise. So I am tinkering with things a bit. I'm thinking the lower protein numbers are leaving me hungry? I'm just not getting to that "I lost my appetite" place that some people seem to reach on LCHF. That's OK - I have lost my urge to binge - at least for now - and without binges getting in my way I can tinker a little and actually see what happens! So I am happy!

What is everyone doing this weekend? I have a class on Saturday but nothing else planned. I think I'm going to try to talk Mr. Doggy into going to a museum or something on Sunday. We lead independent lives in many ways which is fine by me. But sometimes we need to make a date!

Have a good day ladies!

DG

Dh and I are right along there with you guys, I might get him to a casino or out to eat that's prob about it. Sad but I've learned to deal with it.

I haven't learned how to quote all the qirls on the same post but hi to all and wtg! I don't understand how you girls do your calculations, I'm just chugging along with low carb and pretty happy in the infancy of my journey, I sure hope it gets me to goal.

Hope everyone has a great day!

I am about 7 lbs. heavier now at 142 lbs. I am about 135 in my profile pic. I got down to 127 and then fell off the wagon. My husband likes me at about 135 too, and I am tired of trying to fight to stay much lower so I will be happy there.

Hi ladies! Whew - busy day today for me! A good day, although no homework got done! I ordered some denim bootcut "leggings" from Soft Surroundings about a week ago and they came today. I'm looking for something that will eliminate "muffin top" below sweaters, etc. I was skeptical about these jeans but I actually think I'm going to like them! We'll see once I have a chance to actually put some outfits together.

What you are doing is obviously working, so I wouldn't worry about adding any complications to your plan! If you get stuck along the way you know you can tinker with things. Mean time, enjoy sailing along losing weight!

I too am trying to adjust my expectations. I looked and felt great at 148, but especially now that I am a few years older, and now have these BG (insulin resistance) issues, I am trying to make sure my goals are reasonable. My 152 goal might be too low - I dont' know. Right now I would be happy if I can just get it under 160.

Hope you all had a good day!!!

No big weekend plans here either. Class tomorrow and homework. Weight Watchers is doing a thing tomorrow afternoon at their center where for free you can get a body fat analysis. I'm sure it's just calipers or something like that, but if someone is there who KNOWS how to do that, it might be worth stopping by. It's free.

I have experimented with my BG over the last 2 days. Holy cow my body will not tolerate much carbs. I can get away with 10-15g in a meal it seems, but any more than that and my BG goes up over 140. I realize that is still probably low for someone with full out diabetes. But I know over 140 is damaging, and for now anyway I can keep it under 140 by keeping my eating on track. So that's what I'm gonna do. I think I needed these food experiments just to be 100% clear that I DO have a problem, and just how bad it is.

I also re-joined my local gym today. It's an awesome facility that is part of the "park district." So taxpayer $$ and also partly funded by Provena. It has a huge pool, free weights, all kinds of weight machines, and 2 studios with various classes and zumba and yoga, etc. There is also a spinnings studio. With my "in district" discount, and my student discount it was only $325 for the whole year! LOL about the student discount ($75!!!) I asked if they had one, and I'm glad I asked! She did check with another woman to see if there was an age limit on that! There wasn't. But there probably will be by next week! So now I don't feel bad about buying those bootcut/jean/legging/no-muffintop thingies.

So Sunday I'm going to one of the studio classes. Format on Sunday rotates, so it will be a suprise. If it's a Step class I'm in trouble because I don't know that "dance." It's pretty funny trying to keep up with everyone when I don't know what I'm doing. But it's good exercise anyway!

Well, that's the update on my life. Well, except Mr. Doggy found a second "fixer upper" potential rental house today. It's actually not in as bad shape as the first one we bought. (at least as far as we can tell!) The banks are just so over loaded with properties. So we made a low ball offer. We'll see what happens.

Well, off to do a bit more reading and then to bed.

Hi Portcop! Good for you staying in your protein range. That's not easy when the goal is fairly low! I bet that pound is the salt from the pork rinds - WATER. No worries - you are doing great!

Where are Jeanie and Scalestepper today?

Scale was down here today. Had some extra carbs yesterday associated with my experiments, but overall cals were low so down we go. I'm keepin' it zen low carb today. I'm not worried about a protein limit right now - just watching carbs. And giving my fingers a rest from all that poking!!!

My FBG this morning was 100 on the nose. That's the lowest FBG in a couple weeks anyway. I'm happy with how that is trending.

Went to school this morning. These little one credit hour Saturday classes go by so fast! 4 Saturdays, 3 hours 45 minutes per Saturday. Next week is the last class (and of course, a FINAL) already! Wow time flies when you are a student!

Off to do my homework...

I really hope I never become a full on diabetic and have to poke my fingers many times a day, for life. I would run out of spots! I'm like you - I'm seeing progress in some areas and don't mind all this reading, studying and keeping track. Hey - we're well on our way to a better place, right?

I ended up walking outside at a preserve area rather than going to the class. I AM going to a class tomorrow morning though. It's called "mature movement and strength." I'm thinking that is a better starting point for me that the "full out" regular classes for now! (****still having trouble thinking of myself as in that....eh em...."mature" category! ***)

168.0 this morning to have definitely reached a point where I'm pretty comfortable that I can MAINTAIN where I am now! Would sure like to lose but hey. BG is the priority right now! Speaking of....

Last night before bed I was 87. Today before lunch I was 84. I haven't seen numbers like that in a while - and definitely not two days in a row since I've starting the poking! FBG was 106. That will be my stinker! But I'm confident that if my pre and post meal numbers are coming down, that my FBG will come down too.

I've been trying an experiment from the book Diabetes Miracle. She advocates eating a snack right before bed, and again in the middle of the night to stave off the livers release of too much sugar. I did that snack thing night before last and got a FBG of 100. Last night I didn't do it and got 106. I realize those numbers are pretty close and probably within the margin of error for the meter. But still....I think it's worth experimenting with a little more.

OK. I have been seriously procrastinating homework and also book keeping for our business. I've been so busy reading and researching all this BG stuff. BUT....I have a really busy week ahead so I MUST get to these tasks or I will be starting the week behind the 8 ball.

Hope you are all having a great day!

DG

DG
Lol on the mature catagory, I hear you, I had to use a walker for a week or so and thought dh was going to stroke because one was in the house, he said he just wasn't ready for that,.....sometimes it's better to start that way at first.

Awesome on being happy with your weight, I would be happy with it for sure.

I hope your week is good!

Jeanie I am so sorry to hear that! I sure know how that feels. There have been so many times in the last couple of years especially that felt like something took over my brain, and autopiloted me to the grocery store for sugarcarbies. Like I was outside of myself watching myself do it. I think the most important thing is DON'T HIDE. Keep coming back here and keep being willing to try different things until you find what works!!!! For me (so far anyway) my wake up call with BG seems to have been a cold water bath on my sugarcarby desires. I hope you find something like that too.

Is there anything we can do to help you?

YAY! Doesn't hurt to try it. Fat has definitely been my friend. One of the reasons I have been maintaining rather than losing is TOO much fat, I think. However - I would much rather be weight stable eating too much fat than be caught in the cycle of sugarcarbies. Just food for thought - maybe first try to get stabilized and off sugarcarbies before worrying too much about weight? Just a thought... Mean time please let us know how you are doing with the fat fast!

It definitely is an adjustment getting used to the idea that I am.....dare I say it.....aging. So far, I don't think it's been all that graceful LOL!

FBG 95 this morning!!!! I'm really happy about that. I didn't do the night snacks either. I definitely want to try that tonight. I had no idea that waking up and peeing a lot during the night is a bad sign for BGs. That's been going on for me to a long time now. Here and there I am starting to have nights where I seem to sleep better and only get up once or twice in the night. That is progress I think.

Also went to the mature mobility and strenth class this morning and really enjoyed it. They do similar stuff to some of the more intense classes, just not quite as aggressive. It was a much more comfortable pace. I used really light weights so there is plenty of room to make the workout more challenging with heavier weights, bands, etc. I think I will go back on Wednesday and Friday.

I've got a long day today and a late (for me) business dinner with a committee at one of the women's houses. I'm not looking forward to it because I'm not happy with where our contractor is on the project. I need to just be "zen" and not let it ruin my day or stress me to the refrigerator.

Wishing you all a good day too!

Good luck Jeanie!!

Do you do OK without solid food for breakfast? I've tried that (aka intermittent fasting, or just plain old breakfast skipping) It took me a long time to fully realize that skipping breakfast really does affect my urges to eat later in the day. I don't think everyone is affected the same way though - just sharing what i finally figured out about myself.

I do eat breakfast if I am hungry. This usually doesn't happen until I have my eating under control. I cringe to think the amount of calories I ingested over the last couple of days. I am sitting here feeling guilty too, as hubby is talking about taking care of our health so we can retire early and go on some trips. That should be motivation to get myself together!

Whatever it takes to stop the binging - do that first! How was the fat fast today?

Fast went pretty well but I don't know for sure of my calorie count. I got really hungry, annoyed and impatient at dinner and just sort of eyeballed portions. I was annoyed at having to throw out 2 avocados that I just bought last night that were spoiled.

How is everyone doing today?
