Yes but I'm still eating far too much some days (semi-binging) on allowable foods (I'm not binging on anything sugary or nutty or starchy), but binging is still binging and it's not a way to live; binging and then IFíng and lots of exercise as penance. I am just looking for a way to eat normally and not be obsessed by food. I know what I have to do, it's a matter of knuckling down and doing the hard work and being consistent. Josie's method is the one that resonates with me and that's what I'm aiming for. I just have to be consistent with or it won't work. Do you think those of us who binge are overwhelmed by things? I feel like I have so many projects around the house and in life that need to be done and I'm overwhelmed and don't know where to start, and this food issue is a diversion or procrastination.

PNP - no way I would add the brown grains in...eeek.... I was thinking veggies as the carbs and little portion of sweet potato just before bedtime, to see if it works on serotonin as she states. If I microwaved it and made it as unappetizing as possible it might not cause triggers.

See things should be easy for me now as I'm at goal and all I need to do is maintain my weight. But it's difficult, more difficult than losing because I am fighting my body all the time, I have reached my ultimate goal so I have to look for new goals such as different sports, longer walks/bikes etc

Mojo, I am sorry to hear that you are still struggling. I know that achieving a goal is not everything. I was there too not long ago and gained everything back But you are working and educating yourself on how to stop binging for good. You will get there, because you are determined to get there. Keep on studying and trying and you will succeed.

I also get overwhelmed by things I have pending. I have so much work to finish at my office and in the house, so many closets and cabinets that need organizing. I have noticed if I binge on carbs I can't achieve nothing, everything come to stand still. I become so lazy that I don't even want to shower. Speaking of shower, I have noticed that there is something about water that clears my mind and take it away from food. Yesterday I was working from home and I jump in the shower twice and I felt like the water helped with cravings. I am not kidding!. I remember reading about it sometime back that water has healing properties and it is helpful in moment of stress.
I don't believe I binge to distract myself from work that has to be done. Before my binging became so severe during PMS, I was clean freak during PMS. The whole house would get sparkling clean a week before TOM. I need to get back to that state, it was more healthy way to make a nest The say women are nesting during PMS and that's why they eat so much, organize house, etc.

I have completed 5 days that I fought binging desires every single day. I am starting to believe that power of mind is very strong. It is stronger than the deep desire to binge. It is horrible feeling not to act on binge thoughts but at the same time it gives you immense satisfaction that you can get trought this painful experience. I that this continues.

Next step is to see if using Brain Over Binge principles can be applied when I add more carbs to my diet. That will be a true test. I think I will be able to pass this test. I need the freedom of having more variety in my diet. I need a balance of veggies, fruits and healthy snacks that are missing right now. I hate restricting if I don't have to. Hopefully I can go back to eating like I used to eat and all the binging will be in my past very very soon!

So I added some roasted cauliflower to lunch today. No difference in cravings, still struggling. I am surprised that being in ketosis is not taking care of my cravings. I guess those pesky hormones will keep on crying till TOM. I am staying committed and will not cave on any heavy duty carbs. Will stick to veggies and once TOM arrives only then I will make myself nice fruit smoothie.

Jeanie- God knows! about 7-10 days, hopefully no more than that.

So I almost caved on apple but stopped myself. I just freaked out and got scared that this 1 apple would turn into binge. Perhaps I am am unnecessarily scared but I have all the reasons to be scared looking at my history. So I ended up eating more meat and went over by about 200 cal. No biggie!
I should proabably start practicing small amount fruit during PMS using BOB technique, but maybe next time.... I am scared!!!

Well I think you're wise. Many a binge of mine started with an innocent apple

Jeanie - I see you are doing the meat and egg fast - does it work? Yumm a kransky with a fried egg - I could do that. Have you done the M&E Marika? I know you were doing NK at one stage.

Mojo- basically what I did for the past 5 days was meat & eggs. I think 5 days was enough. I still had cravings though, which is suprising (maybe becuase I di it with JUDDD). I got to my pre-binge weight much much faster with m&e. I do m&e occasionally as I find it to be a great way to get back on track and it is also amazing for weigh loss. I will still do it on most DD and some UD. If I have more carbs one day I will follow it with m&e, or I will come back to it once a month for couple of days. Something like this to keep body guessing. It will always be in my diet arsenal. I can't do it for more than 3 weeks, though. I totally burn out on it. It is little easier if you don't have to count calories (JUDDD). Otherwise I find it too restrictive.

I just got a new book. I am opening it as we "speak". It is called "The Willpower Instinct" I just skimmed thought it and it looks interesting. She talks a lot about brain and the control we have over it.

I am hoping the meat/egg fast will work for me, too soon to say. In 2010 when I was at goal and didn't binge for six months my diet was mostly meat and eggs, so I want to give it a very dedicated attempt. What I am trying to find out for certain is whether or not I can get back to that nice no binge place that I was at before by eating the diet that got me to goal w/o binges back then. My MO is to do fairly well and then binge and then instead of going back to low carb after the binge, I convince myself that low carb is making me binge, so I end up trying different variations that usually only exacerbate the binging. I guess what I am realizing is it seems that it would make sense to go back to what worked before and that was very low carb. It is not as easy now though as I don't tolerate high fat as well as I used to, hopefully that will get better with time. It really is a mind game the more I fail the less confidence I have and therefore give up too easily at times.

Jeanie and Mojo- have you ever tried herb called Garcinia Cambogia. I read that is a good appetite suppressant.
I started taking NAC 2 days ago.
My other homeopathic drops did nothing so I stopped them.

N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine
I am mainly taking it colitis, as there have been some studies done on it. It is also good to clear the liver of toxins which may help with hormones regulation. I also read it may help with appetite control. There is however N-Acetyl-Cycteine with out the "L" which seems to be different. I don't know if I got the right one

Marika & mojo
Do you notice any difference in your body fat when eating the different macros? My weight is only up slightly, but I have noticeably put on weight in my stomach area. I have definitely had some binges, but I think part of the problem is my that my body doesn't like apples, yogurt and soups loaded with veggies. I feel lighter and have less stomach fat eating low carb that has never been more clear to me.

Definitely, carbs go straight in my abs and back area. I am apple shape and this area only goes down on LC.

Yes, go hog wild on meat
eggs cooked any way you like in butter, ghee or EVOO, egg salad with mayo, leftover salmon with mayo, any meat and fish cooked however you like, oopsie rolls, salt and spices (I include little garlic and touch on onion-if I make burgers). I have done days with eggs only and I ate about 12 eggs. Eggs days made me little shaky , I could only do that for 1-2 days. Combo of meat/eggs/fish and fat is doable for me for some time though. It will put you into deep ketosis. This is how Zero Carb people eat. There is message board called zeroing on health (or something like that). They only eat meat and eggs for a long time. They are little bit over the top (in my opinion) and not a friendly bunch. Hey, maybe zero carbs makes they mean No, just kidding. From what I read it can be safely done if you also include organ meats. I know myself that I can't do this long term. It would drive me crazy and I think it would be unbalanced for my body. Temporary -yes, but not long term like so people do for years

Speaking of apples, I was cutting an apple for DH after dinner last night and decided to have a slice. It was a small piece but it satisfied my craving! Boy, it tasted sweet. I think even if I was alone ,1 apple would have been sufficient. I am getting there slowly but surely. There is no point of going crazy on something and than having it completely eliminate from your diet. Balance is the key. I have to train myself how to do this but I have a long way to go. I can eat it normally during non-PMS time of the month, so that practicing part has to happen during PMS only.

The author's name is Kelly McGonigal. If you go to her website (same as her name) on the home page there is video from the talk she gives at book signing. You get an idea what's the book is all about.

Great job Marika! You are so close to your goal, no binge is worth that

I am still researching binging ad nauseaum and there is nothing new out there apart from the Getting Stronger's Deconditioning Diet. This guy is really clever and some of his stuff is so scientific and over my poor head but he advocates cold showers, IF and intense exercise to maintain new setpoints. With binge foods he suggests extinction which is not giving in to the binge food so as not to reinforce the pavlovian response (which we know but hell those binges are hard as we know) but also exposing ourselves to the binge food, smelling it, touching it but not eating it and then doing something pleasurable not related to food immediatlely after this. I dont know if I could do that....but I think a cold shower would surely kill a binge in it's tracks

He also believes in the SLD and provides a link to the SLD forum where some of the discussion centres on the theory that the ingestion of calories without taste tricks the reptilian primitive brain (you know the same one that makes us binge) and I would love to trick that reptile part of the brain that causes me so much anguish. I am definitely going to do SLD but I'm pretty good at the moment, and it's just arsenal for the future if I need it.

I'm so glad this turned out to be a great month. Maybe that's one of the lessons of all this - that you can still do well and make progress EVEN WITH a slip up or two. I know, this doesn't solve the bingeing issue itself, or what it does to your colitis. But at least you know you're not throwing in the towel and permanently gaining a bunch of weight. You are managing that beautifully.

That's so true, Carol. With 4 UUAD I still managed to lose. Now to tackle the binging issue once and for all

Surprisingly easy DD today. I may even end up below 500. Maybe having slightly higher UD calories day yesterday did it. Anyhow, I am not not going to question it

Morning Marika! Hope you've had a good day. Thanks for heads up about the M&E diet as I did it yesterday and felt great and satieted; it gave me lots of energy for 2.5 hours cycling/hiking.

Because I had my M&E earlier in the day I felt that wired up binge feeling but I believe the fat and protein really held me at bay. I thought the scales would have moved down this morning but they stayed the same. Today I had 1 tb MCT to commence SLD. I'm just waiting the hour now but my stomach is rumbling, I would love my morning coffee now. It's not giving me a good feeling though, I'm thinking I just had a tb of oil and mucked up my day, might as well binge. I'm just after AS and weight maintenance however extra weight loss would be a bonus; but I'm just being greedy. Speaking of greedy I really really want to eat this particular airated strawberry chocolate bar and a new licorice with the choc inside the licorice to "get them out of my system" but know if I do I will open the doors. Why do I still crave this poison. I gave up bread/starch/cakes/nuts and they don't bother me in the least - but licorice and chocolate..ughh.,, I so wish I could do CAD style RM and not go nuts but I'm too skeered to trial and error.
