That's great work Marika look at those UD's - perfect. Is that 8.5lbs in 10 days?? That's fantastic. You make me so want to do JUDDD but I'm just scared atm.

Marika I believe I read ages ago that you used a pressure cooker to cook bone broth. I'm thinking of buying one just to cook lamb shanks and beef pot roasts to get that lovely falling off the bone meat. However I can just do that in my oven. Do you think it's worth buying a PC - I'm just not sure if I will get a chance to use if that often and whether it's worth the expense? DH says just use the oven! I just hate buying large appliances that take up a lot of room that are barely used. Apparently roast chickens aren't very nice in them, too boiled and not roasted.

Mojo, that 135 was after a 2 day binge, so the number was slightly inflated.
I am almost at previous low of 126.6 before the binge. Hopefully couple DD rotations will bring me there.

Frankly, I don't use pressure cooker as much. For bone broth, I felt it was not enough time to bring all the goodness out of the bones. I could tell because the mixture did not gel after cooling. I like to cook it slowly for 18 hr in the pot and I get great gelatin mixture after cooling. I had some broth with breakfast this morning I think pressure cooker is good if you want to boil potatoes, beets, beans and such things. I much prefer now to slowly roast the meat in the oven (shanks or shoulder), they come out most delicious. Pressure cooker boils things fast and that's the only thing I would use it for. So if you don't want another kitchen equipment I would definitely skip the PC.

If I may step in and give my 2 cents worth.....

Get a pressure cooker. Check eBay and Amazon, you don't need a large one unless you plan on doing any canning, so they should be fairly inexpensive.

Getting that 'falling off the bone' goodness takes some time and hassle if you are doing it in the oven. You run the risk of drying out the meat by cooking it so long. A pressure canner achieves that in less time with very moist meat.

Which is why 'roast chicken' isn't roasted in a pressure cooker. You need the drier heat of the oven to crisp up the skin and lock in the juices of a chicken when roasting. That being said....if you want a chicken for making into soup/stew, then again go with your pressure cooker. You'll have lots of broth and very tender chicken.

And you can use the pressure cooker for making your bone broth.

I bought a pressure canner 20 years ago when I wanted to make canned venison. A PC works wonders on tougher cuts of meat, the meat comes out very tender no matter how cheap the cut is. Venison isn't as fat as beef, so it can be drier and tougher than beef. Normally, the meat off the lower legs is thrown into the pile to be ground up for burger or sausage as it is very tough with a lot of sinew, but, by pressure cooking/canning, it comes out very tender and tasty.

For that reason, you could buy cheaper cuts of meat and can them, so that the jars can sit on your shelf. When you are in the mood for soup of stews, they can be made a lot faster and with less hassle as all you have to do is pop the lid on a Mason jar, add it to the pot, and just wait for your other ingredients to be done as the meat just needs to be warmed up.

Started reading "The Big Breakfast Diet" last evening. Very interesting! I am almost doing it except I don't eat any carbs with breakfast and my calories are only 500-600 (on UDs). She says that by eating starches and carbs during breakfast your serotonin levels will stay up throughout the day and you wont have cravings for carbs. I don't know if this would work. I was always afraid to eat carbs in the morning because whenever I did that I was binging on carbs all day. But I never had my carbs with good amount of protein in the morning. She says if you eat 7 portions of protein (which I think is like 7 oz) this is will not effect your insulin. I just started reading the book so I may not be understanding it correctly.
I am not going to add carbs to my breakfast yet, still trying to see if eating very high protein and staying away from my trigger foods will work. So far so good, but I am in "safe time" of my cycle now.

I seem to have TMI issues a couple of times a month. And it definitely affects the scale results. I try to remember that, and not get crazy over the scale, but I confess it gets me down every time. Good luck to you on that front!

Thanks Monica and Carol. It feels good when scale shows your hard efforts.

I am enjoying the normal time of the month but I am terrified again what will come soon. I know I should just be happy with today, but the past history shows me that I alway get in trouble during PMS. I just don't want to erase all my hard efforts. I am reading a lot and frankly the more I read the more confused I get
I started eating more protein for brekfast few days ago and that was seem to be working well. I have tried it previously and it was not effective during PMS. That's why I am still tweaking this and trying to figure when it is a good time of the day to eat carbs. This morning I added some butternut squash to my high protein breakfast. It came to 600 cal and I am already getting hungry now, 3 hrs after eating. It was only 15 gr of carbs, it is not like I have eaten a lot of carbs. So this is not for me for sure and it would be disastrous during PMS.
So I am still in the same place unfortunately. Have not found a trick to control PMS cravings. I will do SLD again when PMS cravings come back.
I think I am just better off eating the way I have been eating, doing JUDDD with moderate carb (up to 50 gr a day) and just let myself lose during PMS and don't fight the cravings because I can't win it. I think it is better to accept this that fight it all the time. I will keep on looking for solution in the meantime.

OK, the day turned out to be a UUAD today I started craving carbs after breakfast and I caved. I ate what I wanted today including all my trigger foods. You know what, I don't think low or moderate carbs is good for me. I lose weight on it but I restrict too much and than go over board once I cave. Maybe If I have variety of foods every day I will not miss them. They are there when I want them and nothing is off limit. Well, almost, I am not touching grains and sugar but everything else is there to be enjoyed. I am doing JUDDD so I can afford to have healthy carbs. I think my DD will be LC but I don't see a reason why I have to restrict on UD
I feel like my cycles are also much more delayed when I restrict carbs. More PMS time=more binging.

That's the joy of JUDDD, you can work the foods to eat whatever levels you want. LC on DD's is fine, then moderate on UD's that's fine too! You just have to find the balance that works for you!

I need to incorporate SLD again. Maybe my PMS is kicking in earlier this month, or my body just needed to have lots of carbs today.
My eating was not pretty today

Ugh! Feeling joint pains already So I am changing my mind from my post above where I said nothing is off limit. Not possible, if I want to be healthy.

I get this joint pain from either yogurt or fruits or the combination of both, and there was also some honey. What is interesting about the whole thing is the strong will not stop me from binging. I know how bad that overload of carbs is for my body but I forget everything in a second. I guess they are right when they say that carbs can act as drugs. This binging business is happening sooner this month than normally

I wonder if every time I cave on carbs I am making it more difficult not to act on binge thoughts next time. In other words binging today will make me binge again and again. I just don't remember ever having this problem. I would just have couple of days before TOM where I would eat alot but not in those proportions.

I am just so confused about the whole thing. Don't know if I should stay LC and only indulge when the cravings strike, or eat lots of carbs every day. I just don't think that my body likes carbs everyday. It really makes me feel bad on lots of levels when I eat high carbs. If I can just replicate the time when I was JUDDDing with lots of veggies. I was losing well, not to many binge days and I was really only binging on fruits and yogurt 2-3 days a month. I was eating up to 70 gr of carbs on some days but mostly staying below 50 gr (all carbs from veggies only). I still think that was more sound approach. Eat lots of veggies every day and only have the fruits, yogurt and honey when my body craves it during PMS (and I can not for life of me stop the cravings).

So I am continuing with what I have been doing lately, which is getting carbs from veggies only and adding SLD to the mixture. Maybe increasing my DD calories slightly to accommodate the 2 tbs of ghee I have take each day.
