ParanoidSoutherner's Dukan Diet - down 50 in 5 months!

Hi! I wanted to start a journal to post what I've experienced on the Dukan diet and the rest of my progress as I work to reach my first big goal which is the true weight calculated by the Dukan website. True weight calculated to be 154lbs. I'm 5'6" so I've already decided I may try to lose more but until I reach 154 I'm sticking with that number. I haven't seen 154 in over 18 years! This plan has made me a believer!!! I do believe I will see those numbers this year!!

So to my journal. I welcome all to join me on my journey!!

These are my weekly numbers to this point. I weigh everyday and the lost for the week is determined on Saturday morning because this year just happened to start on a Sunday.

Started Dukan January 1, 2012
Week 1 - 7.2 gone
Week 2 - 10.4
Week 3 - 13.0
Week 4 - 16.0
Week 5 - 18.6
Week 6 - 20.6
Week 7 - 23.0
Week 8 - 26.6
Week 9 - 28.8
Week 10 - 30.4
Week 11 - 33.0
Week 12 - 30.0 (travel)
Week 13 - 35.8
Week 14 - 39.0
Week 15 - 39.8
Week 16 - 40.8
Week 17 - 44.6
Week 18 - 46.0
Week 19 - 47.2
Week 20 - 49.0
Week 21 - 50.8
Hit 51 the day before weigh in but was up .2 next morning. *Then up 3 something by Monday cause I over ate but on plan with the holiday weekend. *Back to exactly 50 down as of this morning & tomorrow is June 1st!!* So that's my first five months on Dukan. I am going to post before & after photos soon & share more as I go.

June 1st 175.0.

This time was different. I began on Januray 1st thinking how I know Atkins had worked for me in the past but for he last couple years I couldn't get below 200. So I was losing & regaining the same 20lbs. Toward the end of 2011 some things changed my parents opened a restaurant back up that they had previously closed a few years earlier. From October to December I was eating nearly daily the fast food of choice and feeling horrible from the weight gain. My grandmother (95 years old) was very sick really for the first time ever and died December 20th. She was always one of the first to notice anytime I lost weight. She was always a healthy weight but never tried to explain to me why I might be overweight. She was a blessing and I miss her so much. We planned & booked a family & friends vacation for June. I knew I was about 70lbs more that I wanted to be and even said the day we gathered I book our cruise that I needed to lose 70lbs before the cruise....of course everyone figured I was joking. I didn't believe myself at the time 70 was possible either but NOW I DO!
As with most new years I said I would start a diet & exercise plan so when January 1st rolled around I was ready -- Dukan book read, oat bran purchased, elliptical dusted (ha! not really but it needed it I'm sure!). I purchased a calendar before the 1st too. One of the page per day kind to track my food and daily weight.
Each day I would weigh and write in the calendar how much I had lost and how many lbs to the true weight. I put the actual weight in my iPad diary under password. I know crazy now that I'm blasting it on the Internet for any to find but originally I wouldn't tell my weight to anyone. So each morning I weigh and I logged the number and I calculate the loss & "to go" number and I write those down. I BELIEVE all this logging & calculating kept me focused. I would also put if I walked, dranked enough water, & summary of the food I ate each day. Some days I was detailed some not so much but since Dukan doesn't restrict amounts of meat I didn't need to be precise. What did help was waking up and seeing a gain of a few ounces and being able to see how the day before I had more salt or extra servings of something even when allowed could cause me to be up.
I don't know why in all these overweight years it never occurred to me to log & calculate numbers daily ~~~~ I've worked in Information Technology my entire career. I crunch numbers for people daily. Data is truly so much apart of how I think but I never thought to make all my weight loss process into a big data game. I've been know to calculated in these past 5 months how much weight I've lost per day so far. How much weight I would need to lose per day to meet a mini goal. How many weeks it would take at 2 per week loss followed by how many weeks at 1.5 --- YES I'm geeky like that but it seems that may have kept me focused. Who knows. I guess things click for everybody eventually.

I gotta exercise now. & text a few friends that I hit 52 down

Thanks mama_2_3!

I had a day today! On the way to work I broke part of my front tooth off. It's been broke before & composit added to fix it. So this morning wasn't a big surprise when I tried opening a twist cap on contact solution with my teeth that if popped same area loose.... Most dentist offices are closed in our town but I finally found a man that could do the composit (& I have no idea if I'm spelling that correct) before noon. So all that to say my day seemed off to a crappy start but since I woke to 173.0 I was like I got at least that to be excited about......but then I sat in the dentist chair for nearly an hour & you know what???? I got more excited cause there was so much chair on both sides of me. I sat there thinking about how I was filling up chairs just a short 5 months ago. Then later in the afternoon I saw my shadow & dang if it didn't look slim This was so amazing to me cause I remember many times in the last year walking & seeing my shadow thinking dang why does it look so fat! Was even worse if walking beside my skinny hubby cause his shadow was always so slim.
Funny what you think about when life s changing.

Congrats!!!!! It's funny you say that about your shadow cause the other day I noticed how big my shadow was when I took the dog out. I never really paid attention before and it really put into perspective how big I am I'm not familiar with the Dukan diet, but I wanted to congratulate you! Good luck to you and keep going!

Thank you! Dukan is a lot like other low carb diets but you don't count carbs & you shoot for mostly low fat. Is one way to describe it. I mainly eat meat, veggies(lower carb) & fat free dairy. The dairy is key for me- I love milk & yogurt.

I think I discovered a coupe years ago how much I didn't like my shadow & it took me a long time to decide to do something. Let me know if want more info n dukan.

Today is my wedding anniversary. 6 years! I can wear the dress that I wore which I haven't been able to do in 6 years

At 3:30am this morning I weighed 171.8 ------ that's 3 lbs from last Saturday but I'm not officially logging it until I get up later who knows it might be lower haha!

But even though I said I wasn't logging it I put it here cause I saw it --- really shouldn't weigh in the middle of the night cause when its down a big number I can't go back to sleep for the excitement ---which is crazy!

So 173.0 to 171.8 in a day.. Yesterday I ate:
Greek yogurt with oat bran (cinnimon & stevia)
Coffee with fat-free milk.

Lunch was two pork chops. Diet coke.

Dinner was HB steak with onions & a grilled chicken patty.

I also had two other coffees no sweetener with ff milk. Likely 3 cups at least ff milk total for the day. & all the water I could hold

That was an all protein day for me

Today we have baseball games my son is playing in & my daughter has a banquet tonight I will be attending. I've heard they are serving mexican food. Today may be a mini celebration meal VERY MINI cause I've got vacation coming but a little extra won't hurt me as long as I'm right back to normal tomorrow.

& my normal is now protein, veggies, ff dairy!!! Love it

Folks I dont seem to understand this photo process... I read the help but I will admit that I only half read most everything. I used the manage photos and uploaded them to the post....and you see what I got.
I have same pics in an ablum on my profile if it's easier to see there.

I just look at New Year's Eve party pic (me stuffing my facing - fitting dont ya think?) and today and JUST GO WOW...what the heck was I looking like that for so long...ALL BET IT I had gone up 20 lbs in the last few months of that year. I was at and about 200 for the past at least 4 years!!! NO MORE... I'm planning to be buying size 8's by end of the year. WOOHOO 2012 is a great year!

Thank you all for checking out the pics & encouraging me!
I've texted that jean pic to a few of my close friends can't help but be excited!! What's even better is I have two pair of jeans in 10 now & two pair of shorts not jean material. My dress pants are still 12 - but I'm thinking not long till 10s fit there too

Big eye opener today. I had to get my passport out to do my online check in for cruise. I've never been out of the country so I just got my passport in December --- YEP that's right just before that 12-31-11 photo so I look like that but really much worse cause its straight on nothing but head & chins & I'm gonna be seeing that photo for 10 years!!! I'm gonna remind myself with it often not to go back!

Ive been ask twice today about my diet plan. One mother of one of my daughter's classmate said she wasn't sure she would have known me. Thinking about typing up the dukan websites I visited & hanging it to people who ask me about it --- cause I think everyone should try it!

It's crazy fun how so many people comment about the change in me. My hubby is super proud Too. His boss & a coworker are reading the book.

Today my weight was up - I'm guessing the bacon from the BLT lunch at church where I had BLT with no bread but good news is as of tonight I still weight exactly what I weighed this morning so I should be down in the morning!

Trying to be 160-something by Saturday morning when we leave for trip. It's so possible!

shari - you are welcome! I think you will really like the plan. I can't wait to return from my vacation and hear how good you've been doing!

Today --- 171.6. That's 55.4 down. Woohoo.

Really want to drop to 169 something by Saturday morning and it's possible. BUT then again no sweat either way since I'm headed out the door that morning for my vacation! I'll be up when I return but I'll be right back on plan and headed back down again!

I really am jumping for joy! I am excited about the cruise. There's 24 people in our group. So much left to do in just a couple days to get ready.

I have to share. I received a phone call at lunch today from my cousin. I've not talked to her in ages. She is a friend on facebook so she keeps up with what's happening but we haven't talked. She called asking me about my diet. She wants to get on the plan and try to lose weight too. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that people are inspired.

I started reading out here about a year ago but I wasn't really into it then. I saw pictures of someone who had dropped 88 lbs in a year. I was inspired but still didn't get on a plan or start moving. I kept looking at her pics when I got ready to start this in January and thinking if she can do it I can to. I've seen so many out here now that have lost bunches more weight than me and I stay inspired and motivated to move forward. Keep going ---don't give up!

It's only been 18 years since I was the weight I want to be it's about time I get with the program don't ya think!

here's to losing 55 lbs in 5.5 months. Now to lose another 20 (maybe 30) by end of the year! I'm thinking I will book another trip for January to keep me motivated....my husband plans to retire end of December so it's as good a reason as any to take a trip!

You're doing amazing! You're going to deserve another trip when you hit goal -by the end of the year, naturally That's nice of your cousin to call, of course you're inspiring her - 55 in 5.5 is quite the accomplishment

One more day. Tomorrow morning at 7 we leave. Looking to see 169 something on the scales before then ....so close

This number today makes 56.6 down. 16.4 to go to make "true weight" calculated.

OMGoodness..you're going to make it!! Congrats on the loss!! Although I'm losing...I just can't stand low fat for too long. I'm enjoying my yogurt in the morning and evening so I may combine different plans together. You are so inspiring, I'll be here to cheer you through to goal!

Wow, 24 people...niiiice. Do you visit Cruise Critic webpage? It has a ton of information..I just browse there even when I don't have a cruise planned to cure my cruise fever..LOL. Have fun and 'see' you when you get back.
